The only problem I see is Utah paying Humphries 12 million...on the other hand he's a expiring contract, a big one at that who can probably be retraded around the deadline. Between Hump & Marvin that's 19.5 in expirings. They get a future 1st out of it

Brooklyn can't do a S&T which is why they get involved and get Bargnani for a mere useless expiring. He fits into their PF position and money isn't a issue for them.

Lowry / Augustin (FA) / PG (Vet like Earl Watson)
Derozan / Ross
Gay / Fields
Millsap / Amir / Acy
Val / Gray / C(Vet)

This would be ideal for us. If Utah wants, I wouldn't mind giving them Ross instead of the pick.

Same, figured our FO would rather keep Ross though. Also Utah would take 14.5 million in salary, I think they'd rather the pick.

Love the idea a ton. Maybe we can sign Leandro Barbosa to the BAE

another idea... had this during the deadline but think it works for ATL. This is assuming they dont get another max FA to join Smith (ala Howard) and want to move on. In the OP of this thread it lists Atlanta being interested in Bargnani. So ill propose this.

To Toronto: Josh Smith (S&T)
To Atlanta: Andrea Bargnani + Terrence Ross

thing is we would be one of the few teams who could do a S&T with Atlanta. Houston might offer something decent as well or they might say we will keep our assets and go after a guy like Jefferson/Millsap.

We would hope to get Smith at LESS than the max.

Atlanta would get 2 jump shooters who fit Larry Drews system nicely. I think Bargnani & Horford makes a good duo as well and Ross/Teague would be an athletic backcourt.

- Sign Dj Augustin (via MLE)
- Sign Anthony Morrow (cheap 3 point shooter via MLE)
- Sign Nazr Mohammad (Vet C)
- fill out the roster with veteran guys for the minimum

Kyle Lowry / Dj Augustin
Demar Derozan / Anthony Morrow
Rudy Gay / Landry Fields
Josh Smith / Amir Johnson / Quincy Acy
Jonas Val / Nazr Mohammad / Aaron Gray

pretty nice team. Could be a big splash that Tim Leiweke looks to do like when he brought Beckham to LA.

-Terrence Ross to a team with a 2013 1st rd. draft pick to spare, to take Texas PG Myck Kabongo, our insurance policy just in case Kyle Lowry bolts.

-Sign a SG who can shoot in free agency to backup DeRozan (Gary Neal, Morrow, Budinger, et al.)

Lowry/Kabongo
DeRozan/Neal
Gay/Fields
Johnson/Datome (via FA)
Valanciunas/Johnson/Gray

Not sure we can do much more than that, given our cap situation. I don't know what happens with Bargnani.

Bro, Josh Smith and Paul Millsap have to actually want to come here for either of your S&T proposals to come to fruition. I'm not too optimistic about our chances of landing either because of that.

Well bro, for one Smith & Gay are very good friends. Rudy went to Josh's wedding. I also don't think Millsap would care, Toronto is a bigger market than Utah and he would get paid & start in this scenario. Millsap IMO is the more realistic of the 2 options because I could see Smith getting the max from a team.

Even if they don't want Andrea we can make a deal

Kleiza
Ross
Gray
Lucas

equals like 11 mill if we give him a backloaded deal. or we can compromise with them if this dosnt work and give them Fields(i think Fields has a bit more value)

Fields
Kleiza
Ross

is enough money to match Smith's contract. Then we can amnesty Andrea.

I think Millsap would be a better choice than J-Smoove, but they're both obviously still good options. For Josh Smith, Atlanta would probably prefer to take on less salary since they have the cap space to sign a big free agent (Pekovic, Jefferson, etc), so I can't say see them taking Bargs (even if he is a good fit) and probably not even Fields. We could, however, amnesty Bargs and then offer them something with a lot more financial flexibility like Ross, Gray, and Kleiza's expiring for Smith and a second rounder. I think Fields could really excell as a 6th/7th man next year, and we could then use the MLE to sign solid vets, preferably Randy Foye + wing shooters like Morrow and Tolliver. I also think Josh Smith would play well alongside Amir and JV since all 3 are good and willing passers that can score inside and out (to a certain degree). Not to mention they're all 27 or younger and have a lot of great years ahead of them.

Josh Smith is a waste of talent. Imagine if he didn't settle, put his mind to having a work ethic and actually fulfilled 50% of his potential. I HATE how he always settles for jumpers when he can do so much more, it's enraging. I'd hate to throw a max deal in for a guy like that.

I don't think he would need a max deal, as he seemed to retract from that statement later on and would probably be willing to take less to play somewhere he wants (hopefully that could be in Toronto). I think a change of environment, as well as being on team that uses him differently could do him wonders. Even despite his shortcoming, he's still been playing at a borderline All-Star level for multiple years. At the very least, you'll be getting a jack-of-all trade PF who's yet to find his niche.

JSmooth would be a great addition to our lineup if it were possible.

The one thing we'd DEFINITELY have to do is run more. DeRozan/Gay/Smith is a nightmare in the fast break. That's something we'd no question, have to exploit. I think in a new system, with a somewhat different role, he can explode. He would definitely help get steals/blocked shots which would lead to more open break opportunities... he'd also help spread the floor better at the 4 spot. I would put JSmith as the ideal scenario this offseason. Next up would be Jefferson/Millsap.

Dream scenario would be us trading next year's first rounder instead of Ross, and then we really would have the most athletic team in the league with J-Smoove. Sign vet shooters to space the floor and we would be deadly.

Raptors get Humphries (expiring), Tyshawn Taylor, Nets 22nd Pick

Nets get Pau Gasol (expiring)

Lakers get Andrea Bargnani, Teletovic, Raps 2013 2nd Rounder

I really think that this makes sense for all teams involved.

I would want Millsap, even if only for the fact he is the type of player that eats Raptors for breakfast.

I agree. Usually I don't put too much stock into things like work ethic, but in Josh Smith's case it's relevant. How do you spend 10 years in the league and not improve your jumpshot one bit?

Not to mention that he is terrible fit next to our already ball dominant, inefficient wings. We would have the worst half court offense in the NBA with Smith in the lineup

Quick note:
if you go back in the last 10 years and look back at the PLayers on the NBA All-Rookie FIRST TeamS which Landry Fields, Andrea Bargnani and Rudy Gay were part of:
About 90 percent of those players are making at least 10 million dollars per.

Just a quick note :)
Don't think it means anything (cough)

That's the thing though, wouldn't their choice be to bring in Dwight to play alongside Horford?

If we're not rebuilding:

Ross + Kleiza to Jazz for Millsap
Bargnani to Bobcats for Ben Gordon
Split MLE between Corey Brewer and DJ Augustin
Use other exception on Sammy D or JO
