You're so right.

Building a contender is a multiyear process, but a lot of posters here believe it can be done overnight. As I see it, Leiweke gets to do it his way until he shows his way doesn't work. If his way means keeping BC on for one more year, or canning him now, it's just the start of things, it's not his end game.

I can agree with most of what you say but early decisions set an organizational tone. Just like you would not hire me as spell checker (LOL) we should not retain BC because it is too late for him in the staff of this club. Maybe if BC gets a new start somewhere else he will learn from his mistakes here and be a good GM but, I doubt it! It is a multiyear process no sense trashing year 1 with the "old" direction if you NEED to set a new coarse!

Yes, he will lose some credibility. You don't talk a big game upon arrival and then pick up BC's option.

But try telling that to the MLSE/BC ball gurglers.

I think RealGM just lost all their credibility by even taking this thread seriously.

Tim L has done very well over his years and would not lose all credibility by keeping BC but, it would be a black eye to start. He wants to develop a "new" championship culture & this is hard to do if you trash the first year on an "old" culture that was clearly not even a playoff style in the last 5 years. Got to love free speech :D

I can understand if he feels that he wants a PJ GM and Sloan coach and realizes that getting those type of people takes serious wooing and there isnt enough time to get it done before real decisions need to be made this year.

So if he picks up the options on BC and lets Casey ride out his year, I don't think he loses cred. Now if he resigns BC to a long term deal, then yes I will be disappointed.

A lot of people here will lose credibility if TL brings BC back. Very few realize that BC + Casey is the only long shot chance at Wiggins (or a lottto pick) that we've got. Me, I think there's a good chance we're a playoff team next season (and I think TL, LT, and much of the board may be optimistic toward our immediate success) but even if we aren't - a sacrificial lamb or two doesn't hurt the cause if you've got time on your side.

It's not the strategy the peons in this thread are making it out to be, is what I'm trying to say.

Short answer: No

Long answer: He officially won't take his position 'til well after the decision for BC has to be made. So, it's not even really fair to judge the guy on the GM situation this season. Next off-season is a completely different story though. I think I would have less faith in the guy if he came guns blazing and making moves just to make moves. This is not just something you can evaluate and fix over night. There has to be a lot of thought and planning done when trying to replace a GM for the long-term. Sure, you could bring in a interim GM for the season, but what does that really accomplish? Nothing. It makes the state of the franchise look weaker than it already is and can be seen as pretty unprofessional to all potential replacements.

If he is serious about making Raptors (Toronto?) a major destination in the NBA then it will take more than a few shortsighted/quick moves. Tim Leiweke has said all the right things to this point and I agree with a lot of it. I hope he proves my faith in him to be correct, but keeping BC at this point would not sway that. Plus, having BC for an extra year won't sink the ship anymore than it already is. Especially if he is given a very short leash to work with. Which he has kinda done to himself based on the current cap "flexibility" we have. Though, with BC, he has always proven to be able to make adjustments and additions to the team..even when they don't work out.

Based on just internal growth and hopefully upgrades at the backup PG/C positions the Raptors could easily be fighting for the 7th/8th spot next season, if not higher. Does that make us a successful organization? No, but it makes at least a bit more attractive to free agents and also gives the fans something to cheer about. Also, giving Mr. Leiweke a full season/year to evaluate the Raptors and put his plans in motion.

BC's been desperately fast-tracking to get into the playoffs, and now he's supposed to be tanking for 2014? He chose to forego 2014 draft because making the playoffs before then gave him a better chance to save his hide. But he couldn't even do that (playoffs). I like the sacrificial lamb idea, though, especially since he positioned himself there. Now this saga just needs to be finished.

1st: TL has already said that despite his official start date, the board has told him it will listen to his recommendation. That's why he's met with BC and attended the MLSE meeting last week.

2nd: BC's done a great job at doing that. Hence, the TL hiring.

It just doesn't make sense for the guy who was hired to change things because they're so bad to then keep the guy who made them so bad.

Anyone who thinks that opinion polls as carrying any weight on an issue can look no further than an online poll. Just because the majority of people believe something doesn't make it credible. Not because people are stupid, I wouldn't say that, it is because forming opinion consensus is used to influence or turn opinion by sheer weight of numbers sometimes at the expense of reasoned argument. Maybe he puts the last 7 years into a context with info the heads must roll fixaters here are not privy to. Maybe he simply doesn't know exactly what his "plan" is and needs to time to assess the situation. Strange that he said something to the effect along the lines of "Ill be here a lot longer than people think". OK. Is that an "I'm more than a fixer" statement? Is MLSE so disconnected that they need a fixer literally in the Hollywood sense? Sounds like there is a big enough set of issues it will require time to deal with them all. No?

Yes, I know he said that. At the same time he also said that there is a lot of information he wants to get beforehand and not to make a hasty decision. Which is the right course of action to take in my opinion.

I'm not arguing for keeping BC...I'm actually for getting a new GM if it means that it is part of a well thought out plan. We've seen a lot of BC moves to be reactionary and sometimes it seems like he just makes trades/signings to make it look like he's got a plan. I don't want TL to come in doing the same thing without an actual plan.

As much as BC has messed up in our eyes...the Raptors have still been top in the league in attendance and profits...so in the business side of things the Raptors are still seen as a decent commodity and to a lot of potential GMs that is a great thing. Hence why I think just getting rid of BC for a 1 year rental GM would be the wrong move. Unless, TL has a person in mind that he knows for sure that he wants to be the GM long-term and would eventually be able to turn the Raptors into a potential top 3/4 team every year in the East.

Tim Leiweke should get carte blanche and full support to do whatever he wants with the Raptors.

I think you need to look more into him. He's been successful every where he's gone, in various fields.

I voted no, simply because I never bought into the hype that TL was going to make any significant change to the makeup of our front office. Had my basketball shaped heart broken to many times, so now rather then appoint TL as a Stark i view him as Ramsay Snow, until proven otherwise.

I don't think so.

IMO opinion if BC's option is picked up it is because we could not find a replacement GM. I feel if BC is here next year he is on a short leash and he won't really be calling any shots.

Obvious no when speaking about the 99% of people who pay for Raps tickets.
It is just a bunch of internet kids who make it a big deal...regardless TL will not loose any sleep over it.

Raps are just a little part of his MLSE puzzle, better to have a BC bball guy in charge for at least an year to get TL time to settle in and see what needs to happen next.

Really, and who will be calling the shots???

BC forgot more about bball than TL will ever know, and TL knows this. Not to mention that Raps is just a small part of MLSE, so TL has bigger fish to take care of first.

If you've been paying attention to his interviews, the Raptors are the big fish he's trying to take care of.
