Zicarelli: source: BC option to be picked up?

Post#1 » by StMikes31 » Sun May 12, 2013 1:21 pm

At long last, it appears the fate of Bryan Colangelo will be resolved. There are those who believe a decision will be made official by as early Monday. Unofficially, Colangelo’s option year is expected to be picked up, a route many in basketball circles had anticipated in the days leading up to the Raptors’ season finale.

What the Raptors franchise needs is clarity in the executive suites and results on the hardwood, not exactly the hallmarks that have characterized the club in recent years.

With the NBA’s pre-draft camp set to open in Chicago on Wednesday, the process of connecting the dots is in full swing.

Bell CEO George Cope, who is said to be on Colangelo’s side, was knee deep into CRTC hearings involving the Astral-Bell merger deal.

Leiweke is only beginning to understand the landscape he inherited, but this big-thinking executive must realize no name, regardless of stature, can turn the Raptors overnight.

It’s why the decision to give Colangelo one more year seems so logical that it’s laughable why nothing has been done.

In Boston, Celtics president Danny Ainge told reporters the Raptors had sought permission to speak with assistant Tyronn Lue, who has been out of the NBA long enough to distance himself from players, but at the same time maintain a pulse on today’s modern player.

"Unofficially: BC's option expected to be picked up"

Post#2 » by 3thomas » Sun May 12, 2013 1:22 pm

I picked some of the more interesting quotes from the article. Another whirlwind summer with BC. Sorry if already posted.

Unofficially, Colangelo’s option year is expected to be picked up, a route many in basketball circles had anticipated in the days leading up to the Raptors’ season finale.

Cache aside, it’s hard to glean what exactly Jackson would bring to the Raptors in this rumoured scenario that would see Jackson serve as president.

Colangelo is very much like Leiweke in that he thinks big and is extremely competitive.

But he first must be given a mandate, even if it is for one more year.

I am competitive at all sports but am not good enough for the pros. BC is the same as a GM. I dont care how competitive he is.

It very much looks like PJ turned them down, or they could no longer wait with no (in their opinion) better
choices out there.

More interesting is the comment about the mandate; that BC operated under no such defined one, what kind of BS is that!! What is the mandate for any professional sports club???

The level of meritocracy, contempt to fans has just hit new highs.

Extremely poorly written article. Someone needs to tell this guy that he doesn't need to hit the return key after every sentence. Hurt my head reading such a disjointed, uninformative piece.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

TL picking up BC's option gives him time to evaluate and recruit viable candidates.

Mortgaging the future for 39 year old Steve Nash = thinking big. The one universal knock on Colangelo should be that he doesn't think big and hasn't for the past few years. It has been one stopgap move after another.

But if Tim Leiweke sees something I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm done with this team so long as BC is a part of it.

I wonder is the market for GMs that dry? Are we surely to be worse with another as opposed to staying with BC?
Really if true, this will be his last hora and he will spare nothing to make the play offs while justifying the moves in his typical lame salesman style conferences.

Rumors (right after season ended) about moving Bargnani requires another assets scares the bejesus out of me. His endless desire to get Gasol with his bad knees and knowing how much LA wants Nash shipped out is equally unsettling. There are very few suckers in this league, BC is definitely top three on that list.

I can't believe I found a team that actually elicits visceral disgust. It's incredible.

Nevermind, I got it.

There's only so much you can invest of yourself before you find way better things to do with your time and concern for something that doesn't change.

Taunt away, makes no difference to me. I stand by what I said.

Ugh, ill post here since this is the more recent post. I go out drinking all night, get home pop on the computer to check my email and this. I said he would get the option picked up, but all this PJ speculation actually had me hopeful. Well, they will make the playoffs and he will be extended, more excitement to come guys.

Finally, this team can get back to more pressing matters. Like the resigning of franchise player, Alan Anderson.
