So you're saying we're better than average?

Win!

We are hardcore fans and over analyze every single move made by the front office.

You guys need to chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillll

So because most fans are not going to over-analyze it is then okay for the FO to make poor moves and the hardcore fans should just chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillll when they happen? GREAT TAKE!

 But you definitely need to chill. You act like we just traded Harden for freaking K-mart. Roy's contract was not a great asset as you make yourself believe. I'm a Saunders skeptic but I just don't think he made a terrible mistake that will bite us in the ass. I question the timing and would like to see if there was some kind of deadline on Roy's decision.

I don't remember. Do we know all the stipulations that allow the Wolves to get out of the second year of the contract? It seems like I remember the "unable to play" provision attached to it, but I also remember hearing stuff about it being automatically guaranteed if he met certain statistical goals and minutes played last season. The statistical goals have come and gone, but I'm not convinced the contract is air tight on the unable to play provision. Giving the Wolves the benefit of the doubt, they could very well be trying to waive him before he has healed enough to try and prove he is fit to play NBA basketball again.

If this isn't the case, no reason for the Wolves to rush into dumping him.

I remember them trying to buy him out but he wanted all of his guaranteed money. For some reason Kahn didn't value Roy's contract as an asset either.

Great asset or not you don't do what Flip did period because it was still an asset which was not time sensitive. This was a major mistake, not that any consequence will come of it, but a major mistake just the same. Yet I need to chill...? If you don't get that maybe it is you who should chill.

Big mistake is something like trading Harden instead of amnesting Perkins, drafting Wes Johnson with 4th pick.
Not using a 5 mil Roy's contract is not a terrible mistake, and you just admitted that there may not be any consequences from it. So you need to chill. I'm definitely not losing any sleep over it.

Would it be better to simmer down, or perhaps mellow out? No one wants to harsh their buzz, do they? Hopefully everything is copasetic.

I read in Scientific American that if you get mad enough, you'll eventually chill. Its like if you keep traveling east, you'll eventually end up west of where you started. Something about 11 dimensions and theories about strings and ****. I don't get it either.

And while it was an asset to other teams, maybe our front office deemed it just as much of an asset for us because we need to create the money to bring back our own guys.

I looked here for the answer first, and didn't find it.

Then I looked here. Along with beer, it may be the answer to all of life's problems.

LAL fan here. IMO major mistake if not time sensitive, e.g., because LAL needs to cut salary and the Roy contract could have facilitated a Pau trade (direct or three team) or used to pick up a player like Hill (not saying LAL would do that but that is the type of deal potentially available). For instance, there have been discussions of adding CP3 and the only way that is possible, in addition to using the amnesty provision on KB24, is to cut a bunch of salary. One possible trade I was thinking of was Hill+Duhon for Roy's contract. Duhon could then be waived for 1.5M. LAL would cut about $5M and MIN would add Hill for essentially nothing. Isn't that something that would have been attractive to the Wolves, given the interest in Hill last summer?

Finally someone has said something that makes me feel better.

If cutting Roy now makes it even 1% less likely we'd add the $20 million Pau Gasol, then I'm a lot more OK with it.

Come on. The fact that he's Spanish is worth at least $40 million. That's 50% off, for pete's sake.

Thought this little exchange was interesting:

‏@KFANRubeChat
@DarrenWolfson Have you heard anything that would make you believe it was a good move to release Roy last week? It's mind boggling to me

Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson 10h
@KFANRubeChat Yes. Led to believe that the language in his contract was very tricky. Had to make the move now.

If true, sounds like releasing Roy now has more to do with Kahn's wording in the contract than Flip's decision to do it.

Is it even possible for the release date in the contract be guaranteed be this year, if it's for guaranteeing salary for the 2013-14 season?

I would imagine the absolute earliest date would be in July after the new 2013-14 NBA season had started
