This is an intrusting idea. No subs of an intentional foul. Could hurt the team with the ball as well though.

Not no subs, just the player who commits the foul cannot leave the game at the dead ball.

There's no way to get rid of it.

No, the main purpose is to entertain people. It's a business, so they gotta keep the game good for the viewer. No audience, no money. No money, not great conditions for that sport. And so on.

wrong the main purpose is to play basketball. to compromise the integrity and regulation for the game to raise revenue by not allowing an exploitation of poor shooters is wrong

Yes, get rid of it!

And additional:
Lebron isnt allow to drive to the basket anymore
Players who averages >1.5 blocks arent allowed to block guards anymore
Westbrock/Lawson/Parker/etc arent allowed to drive against opponent PGs who are older than 32
Dirk isnt allow to shoot fadeaways anymore
Reggie Evans scoring a basket are automatic three points

Just learn to shoot FTs with 60-65%. Why you want to protect these morons? the league also dont protect players who are way too slow or bad defender or guys who cant shoot...

They're supposed to be easy points for the team shooting them. I have no remorse for players who can't convert easy points and continues to avoid working on them.

They should get rid of tall players too. Anyone over 6'3", it's just not fair the way it is now.

Do people really want refs to review every foul for 5 minutes to see it if was "on purpose" or not?

The players missing their free throws are the only ones that can change this.

I don't enjoy watching that tactic and would not be bummed to see it go.

I don't feel bad for the guys who can't make free throws, and feel bad for everyone (myself included) who has to watch it.
Count that baby and a foul!

close it. Its boring as ****. I would amend it to where you get a certain amount of allowable off the ball fouls per team, maybe 4, so that you can use them tactically but after that it becomes a shooting foul. It allows some strategy at the end of games but it also prevents it from slowing the game down to a point its just plain boring

Maybe make it where off the ball shooting fouls are 1 shot and the ball.

Maybe some players should just learn to shoot free throws.

Absolutely keep it. Intentional fouling has always been part of the game.

I agree with this. If players don't want it to happen to them, then they should learn how to shoot the damn free throws at 70%+.

Keep it. These players are professionals. Don't amend the rules if they can't hit a FT.

Listen if you even make 55% of your free throws, you essentially would have the offence equivalent to the miami heat, 55% is not that hard come on.

Winsome Gerbil wrote:Have always felt Hack-a-Shaq was a perversion of the very meaning of the rules. A "foul" by its very definition means that the defensive team has broken the rules. Has cheated. And so are punished for it. Hack a Shaq turns that entire paradigm on its head, and tries to use fouls against the team being fouled. That isn't right. Should never be possible.

My simple solution to it would just be this: give the fouled team a choice to either take the FTs or take the ball out on the side. I would even go so far as to say give the fouled team the choice to either accept the foul or not even take it, but that would be hard to work. Either way, there is no way a defensive foul should be able to be sued to punish an offensive team. Poor FT shooters are already penalized by making it hazardous to go to them in the post or whatever late in games. Trying to chase them from the court even if the offensive team appropriately keeps them out of the play is just a perversion of the whole point of having fouls in the first place.

Good post, I like your logic- fouls exist to penalize the offending team, not reward them.

Hack a whoever is fine. It is only 'boring' because there are players out there who couldn't be bothered getting their FT% up to the 55-60% mark.

If the Shaqs of the game could achieve that there would be no hack-an-anybody strategy apart from at the very end of close games.

Entertainment is part of it, but it definitely isn't the MAIN reason. You play to win the game. Most fans would rather have a win than excitement.
