This is getting ridicolous, someone trying to defend a trade of an all-star big and best player of a playoff team for a role player shooting guard that is the 3rd best player on another playoff team and also a liability on defense, a 3rd pick for a 12th.... there is no way to look at this trade and not cry from Hawks perspective, but who knows perhaps everyone is wrong and you are right...

I honestly never saw him play before this season.

Golden State has been even more irrelevant than ATL the past few years.

Thompson is nice and all but he's not worth taking on 44.3 million of the worst post defender in the NBA while giving up Al, his one game explosion aside.

Thompson is still improving (only 23). Worked his tail off this past summer to work on his defense, and he's been pretty decent.

How about Barnes for Josh Smith (Sign-n-trade)?

23 isn't exactly young by NBA standards for a sophomore and looking over his stats seem to indicate that he actually took a step back this past season so "pretty decent" shouldn't be enough to net you a player of Horford's caliber.

As far as Barnes for Josh, sure. He's younger than Klay and whether or not the Hawks actually do intend to resign Smith still doesn't change the fact that they can't expect much in return for him but.....what other salary(ies) is/are the Warriors attaching to him as that would be an illegal trade considering that the Warriors are looking to be on the cusp of the luxury tax next season rather than having cap space. If it's still David Lee then no, I'm really not fond of that salary at all if it's being attached to non-stud prospects.

Yeah, sure. If Josh still insist on getting max and Ferry still needs the cap space to get Howard and Paul, then it could be worked out, but Atlanta can't take back any bad contracts in return or find a a third team.
