Off Season Trade Rumours
(Thought I'd make a general rumour thread, otherwise we'll be all over the place through the Summer. Obviously major outlet reports deserve their own thread)
According to 'Clipper Frank' on twitter, we will be heavily pursuing OJ Mayo in the summer.
With what money I don't know, does this guy have any cred?

For full mid-level it wouldn't be a bad deal I suppose. Not a great one though.

disclaimer:
any player i support coming to our locker room is because I believe in CP3's leadership and his alpha dog mentality.
OJ is gonna spread the floor for us.
and he can score off the dribble....something that killed us because we didn't have creators outside of cp n jamaal. he's going to play hard on defense. i'll take a guy who buys in and plays hard on defense with a great defensive coach 9/10
signing him would let us keep pieces...pieces we can trade for an SF or a Center that can play both ways.
still not sure whether u can over-sign and then trade people off to make the number fit. kind of like miami agreed to sign the big 3 and then traded beasley and whoever else....anybody know?

Re: Off Season Trade Rumours
O.J. Mayo is like the inferior version of EJ who can't get to the line.
Here are some numbers for you:
Eric Bledsoe - 8'2 standing reach, 6'7.5" wingspan
O.J. Mayo - 8'3.5" standing reach, 6'6 wingspan (Height: 6'3.25", with shoes: 6'4.25")
Mayo is an undersized SG, so as long as we are all aware of that an content with it, it's all good. He's not a wing player, he's closer to a combo guard. So Mayo can't be moved to SF, well he can, but it's like playing Bledsoe at SF. He's a 6'4 guy with a short wingspan and reach. Ben Gordon at 6'2 for example has an 8'3 standing reach and a 6'8.5" wingspan.
Mayo would probably require the full MLE. This means unless Barnes takes the 120% increase of his current salary, we can't bring him back.

yea but he'd be significantly cheaper than and EJ and doesn't have knee and ankle injuries all over the place.
once you start having injured wheels, the risk starts to become worth more than the "potential" reward.
and EJ has the same standing reach anyway.
he made $4 million in dallas last year.
this a joke? I'll take OJ at 5.5-6 million any day of the week.
plus OJ is still a good defender.
just means we need a long and athletic SF.
signing him means we still have bled and DJ that we can package...or caron/ bled...or caron/ dj to package because we didn't use them to get a 2 guard.
plus we have a pick that can be used on a 2.
i'd like it all the way around.
i dunno

I wish I had access to synergy stats. I would like to see stats on how good players like Mayo, EJ, Barnes, Ariza, etc. are at defending the three point shot, since we have been getting killed in that area these past 2 seasons. If Mayo has a mediocre standing reach/wingspan, I'm not sure if that hurts him in regards to defending the three point shot. I remember reading some where that EJ has a 6-9 wingspan!

D12 to join CP3 in Lob City?
Not sure if it's serious enough to start it's own thread but there are rumblings out of Dallas that the Clips will pursue Dwight Howard this offseason. It's interesting because it is a Maverick-centric piece.

Dwight Howard or bust? Lakers hold financial advantage but Mavericks can offer power
Eddie Sefko, The Dallas Morning News (5/12/13)
But with Chris Paul looking less and less likely to leave the Los Angeles Clippers, Howard is the singular target in free agency that the Mavericks can take a big swing at. And they will do so.
There is new competition, by the way. A few executives around the league have learned since the Clippers’ season ended with a first-round playoff loss to Memphis that they are probing ways to dump enough salary to make a run at Howard. Other personnel execs said they doubted that the Clippers could free enough money to make a serious run at him.
If they can, it will raise the number of capable and presumably desirable teams that will pursue Howard to five — the Lakers, Clippers, Mavericks, Rockets and Hawks.

I actually agree.
I'm not in favor of trading for EJ at all, I'm actually quite fine with Mayo for the MLE, I'm just saying that people should have the right expectations in terms of what he's capable of doing. You have the right expectations, he can defend PG/SG, but he's not a wing and can't effectively move to SF.
With Mayo, the team still needs a big wing defender (eg Ariza). The only other issue is that with any starting SG that can't play SF or PG and will get minutes, Crawford is less and less valuable because he's neither a SG/SF or a PG/SG, he's just a SG. This makes the Clippers either have to play Paul/Mayo/Crawford or have to play Mayo/Crawford/SF unless both those guys can either do a 24/24 split or a 28/20 split.
If the KG trade for DJ is capable of going through, and Washington can be convinced to trade Ariza for Butler, I prefer this lineup:
Paul / Bledsoe
Mayo / Crawford / Green
Ariza / Hill
Griffin / ?
Garnett / ?
To the one where EJ makes $14.3M and Lopez is the starting C. The other reason I like this is that re-signing Ariza won't be expensive. You should be able to get him from anything from MLE to his current salary.
You still have Bledsoe to package in some sort of trade, though with DJ and Caron gone, the contracts to pair him with are gone. I didn't include Barnes because MLE on Mayo means that Barnes has to accept his 120% raise of his current contract and can't get much of a pay increase.

Re: Off Season Trade Rumours
The Clips being over the cap can only pay him a max of 120% of this years contract, or they have to dip into the MLE to pay him more. If the whole MLE is used on a guy like Mayo, the max we can offer Barnes is 120% of his current contract.
Matt has said he wants a pay increase, and I respect that and wouldn't be mad at him for taking one. He played better than a minimum level contract player last season.
I was big on Barnes all last season, and he didn't disappoint. I don't think there's any FA that can bring the same things as him at a low cost, but that's the task for the management.

I think a Butler for Ariza trade gets us a Barnes clone and a younger player to boot.

Re: Off Season Trade Rumours
No FA's, but there is a trade that does it. Ariza doesn't cut and move off the ball like Barnes, but he's longer and defends better. I never got why Washington wanted to do that trade, but if they still do, I'd be down
