The escape of the cave is just a plot point. It only serves to illustrate the subjective perception of reality in the difference between what they once knew was real (cave shadows) to what most view as reality (life outside cave)
C'mon, you apes! You wanna live forever?

I dont think we were ever arguing about the plot point.
My point was that for certain people being under the influence of drugs is like being in the cave (pseudo reality).
Once they are out of the cave (stop taking drugs), their reality becomes unbearable and some would rather live under false pretenses (drug usage) than to live in real life.

Use a hair drier to heat the shoe up to make the material flexible and start walking in them. Works well for leather shoes.

yeah but the reason why your line of thinking isn't applicable to plato's cave is because the cave denizen ONLY knows the cave and the shadows as his reality- whereas in your example, noone is born into a world of drugged up reality- that comes secondary to life without drugs

The complete analogy doesn't fit my system well, but it hammers in the point. It is simply an application of the allegory.

for some people it could be the opposite

on drugs - outside the cave
off drugs - inside the cave

That could very well be someones perception of it. Hard to argue that.

who's taking it too literally now

Individual: All of us have an individual 'cave' of our own, where we live a comfortable, happy and familiar life. But in reality, we are 'prisoners" of the truth'. We prefer living a dull, mundane life and blindly follow the set social norms, than question or challenge the authenticity of the 'shadows' that we have been seeing since childhood. The one who does question is often ridiculed and despised. The 'liberated man' here is like the philosophers who think beyond the set norms, question the reality and keeps accumulating new experiences and knowledge. Society often condemns, prosecutes and laughs at them, yet these philosophers are willing to voice their opinions and face the truth.
