Here's a far reaching one. There used to be this point guard at Notre Dame named Chris Thomas back when I was still playing NBA Live in maybe middle school, I thought he was going to be the MAN! But he didn't even get drafted. I thought Martell Webster was going to be a superstar, and Austin Rivers would win rookie of the year. I was huge on Yi Jianlian, Rickey Sanchez, and Rashad McCants. Tough string of luck, but Greg Oden as well. And who didn't get Frannie Vasquez wrong!

I remember Chris Thomas, I thought he was going to be a good NBA PG. Not great but good. I wanted the Magic to draft him.

Not much difference from people thinking magic could make the playoff next season with the current roster

Its pretty sad but Cato was the best center this team had at the time since Shaq........

Rony Seikaly was pretty damn good for us for a couple years.

As for me... I was one of those guys who was certain that Fran would come over. It took me a while before I finally accepted that the guy was THAT big of a pussy. Also had a soft spot for Darko and thought he could live up to his #2 pick in Orlando, he just needed a change of scenery. Thought Vince might recapture some of his greatness here and to be fair he did have flashes, but not nearly enough to matter.

I remember over-hyping Johnny Taylor. It was 1996 and the first time we had even a medium draft pick in a while (17) and I thought our team had found a division 2 gem. But... no.

I thought Steve would be better without Cuttino Mobley, boy was I wrong. I had high hopes for Drew "Hair Follicle" Gooden. Probably more that I can't think of atm.

Your right I forgot about Rony, he was pretty good for us, too bad he had problem with this feet.

The whole Francis/Cuttino love fest was disturbing....I thought Mobley would play better too but he was too heartbroken, same for Francis it seems like.

Every year I thought Fran would come over. Should of known when it was his GF who made the decision.

Good Ole Rony Siekaly. Hahaha. I got to sit behind him for the grand opening of the new Amway Arena two years ago.

i'm not even sure where to begin because my list is probably quite long. i'll go with duhon to cover the more recent years. i thought he was going to be much better and was fairly optimistic in the beginning. we all know how that turned out.

I thought Doug Christie would be a defensive stopper and take us deep into the playoffs

My extremely embarrassing overhyping of Gerald Green during the '05 Draft is the reason I stopped reading nbadraft.net

I know...trading Mobley for Doug, I thought he was going to be a big impact on defence alone

Me too. My buddies will not let me hear the end of that one. Loved that dude. Too bad he was whipped 9 ways to Sunday.

i've had a lot that i've got wrong.

Miles Simon - 2nd round pick for the Magic in 99 (i think). had won awards in college and i thought he'd be a surprise, pass first PG. i don't know if he even finished his rookie season with us...

Darius Rice - i thought he was gonna be a gun SF who bombed 3's over the competition all game long.

Ron Mercer - thought he'd be a star on our heart and hustle team, since we didn't have any bonafide scorers.

Okafor - thought he'd be better than Howard, and would be an all defensive team player every year.

Duhon - i never knew he'd be that bad. i used to like back in his Chicago days, and thought he'd be a solid pass first PG, but the dude can't keep the ball off his feet.

there's probably a lot more in there. can't think of them right now.

Liked the Christie trade at first.

Wanted Okafor over Howard.

I bought into the Gerald Green hype too, but a ton of people did. Fans of every team were getting pissed off with each passing pick as their teams passed on him.

Didn't love the Tobias trade at first. JJ was, and still is, my boy, and I had sort of an "I'm going to be pissed if we trade him for anybody but Lebron, and even then..." attitude.

I was utterly convinced that Desmond Penigar was a franchise player.

I may be overlooking it, but I see a curious lack of the words "Brandon Bass' toughness, defense, and rebounding" in this thread.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

That was a curse that I still can't get over completely

Then he goes to Phoenix and plays 78632897123162831682736812837 freaking games :banghead: :nonono:

But for real, I thought Fran Vasquez was gonna be our twin tower with Dwight.

I thought I was the only one that was enamored with Darko haha. Every year I would force my friends to listen as I would preach that this was the Year for Darko! Im a little ashamed of this but to be completely honest I still think Darko has got it :/
