Per wiki 6 of the 8 teams that came back to win down 3-1 HAD home court advantage. The other state we should want to know is, of the teams that lost down 1-3, how many of those teams had home court advantage. It just seems obvious that the vast majority of those that failed to come back did not have home court advantage.

The fact that the majority of the teams that came back after being down 3-1 had HCA does not mean that our odds are good. It just means that the odds of coming back when you don't have HCA are even worse -- since it has only happened twice in NBA history.

The majority of teams that fall behind 3-1 in a series, lose the series. I'm sure that of all the teams that have ever fallen behind 3-1, a greater portion did not have HCA. But that doesn't mean that there aren't tons of examples of teams falling down 3-1 and losing the series, even though they had HCA. I can think of one right off the top of my head -- the '95 Knicks had HCA, went down 3-1, tied it up at 3-3, and then lost at home in game 7.

EDIT: Just looking back at the past two years, there have been 5 occasions where a team with HCA fell down 3-1 and lost the series: LAC over MEM, PHI over CHI, and BOS over ATL in 2012; ATL over ORL and MEM over SAS in 2011.

Of course there are teams that fell down 3-1 that had home court and did not win. I just think that the odds would seem much better if we narrowed the statistical sample to that cohort instead of what is clearly an overbroad one.

One thing I didndt like from last night:

When both Stat and Kmart were playing, Stat was defending West and Kmart was defending Hibbert. I know Amare isnt the worlds best defender, but hes practically a 7 footer with a long wing span while Kmart is giving up 6 inches in height. Thats the difference between a 6 footer and someone whose 5'6 if you need a visual on the height disparity

I don't begrudge Woodson going to Jason Kidd. Kidd is one of the smartest players in the league, he's had a habit of keeping the team composed, he's capable of hitting the 3 and he knows how to win.

It was a coaching decision, and I understand Woody going with him over the rookie Prigs in the same situation. Now it obviously didn't work out and hindsight is 20/20 but in that position you hedge your bets. The reasoning was sound

The reasoning was not sound. Pablo has been a primary engine of the offensive success--even if limited--we've had this season while Kidd has done nothing for us offensively in a series where we have struggled offensively. there is little reason to play him apart from "intangibles" none of which have done anything for us this series.

F*** it. I want to see the regular season rotations out there for one last time. Start Prigs, Novak and Copeland in for a stretch. Bombs away from behind the arc.

I don't give a s*** anymore.

Also, the lineup change, while it did appear as a panic move, is another hindsight deal, if Woody doesn't adjust our size based on the last three games, he gets killed for not adjusting, he tried it, it didn't work, but it's hard to justify keeping the status quo when we're losing.

Is there a way to give this comment a thumbs down, or a technical or flagrant foul or something?

There were plenty of people who were against adjusting on this board prior to Game 4.

He half-hearted it. If he going to change, he needed be real about it. Give Cope, Camby and Vak some minutes. Give Kidd 3 minutes instead of Prigs.

Really? Doubtful.

the majority of the board IIRC was calling for "no more small ball" and "rebounding is killing us" and "woodson doesn't know how to make adjustments" yadda yadda yadda...

he does it and it doesn't work so obviously that wasn't the problem.

It's easy to kill someone when you're not sitting in their chair. Coaches generally like to live and die with proven vets, anything else is a gamble. Woody had to make an adjustment, so I took out a rookie and replaced him with a champion.

Game plan should be real easy...DON'T mess with the starting line up. ATTACK...ATTACK...ATTACK.

And what was written on the white board after the game in the Knicks locker room is so true. It really does take one game to change everything. a game 5 win puts immense pressure on Indiana to finish it in game 6. The type of pressure that tightens you up when you release the ball, miss key free throws or let your emotions get the better of you. If Woodson adjusts, the Knicks can and will take game 5.

Let's face it. Prigioni is better than Kidd and Copeland is better than Chandler. We have not been putting our best players on the floor. I am shocked it didn't happen in Game 4 and if Woodson doesn't do it in an elimination game, then I don't know what to say anymore.

If we're going to do down, go down with the best we got. We have to throw the kitchen sink at them.

NY was a team that went into the playoffs on a 16-2 run to end regular season. Then won first 3 vs Boston to go 19-2.. Then the JR Smith elbow and they are only 2-5 since and looking bad doing it

My guess is NY wins tomorrow and loses in Indy on Saturday.

Caveat to the Pacers. They must close it out on Saturday. If Knicks push to 7 I think they win the series.
