I wonder when we're going to hear more about Phil. He came to town for the week to "help with the coaching search", and all they did this whole week that's been reported was interview JB Bickerstaff. lol

I guess Phil is waiting on the Kings-Seattle deal to be determined before decided on which team he wants to work for next year.

Sources close to the MLSE familiar with Leiweke’s thinking say he’s also tapping into his NBA contacts to determine if there might be a preferred choice to give the franchise over to for a complete makeover.

One name that can be crossed off any lists, sources say, is Phil Jackson. The 11-time NBA champion head coach won six titles working with Leiweke in Los Angeles and the two are friends, but the likelihood of Jackson relocating to Toronto and taking on a full-time role as a club executive are considered remote at this point.

So if TOR and BKN are both out of running, that doesn't leave many options left for Phil. If I had to guess, I'd say he's waiting to see what happens with SEA, and if that doesn't go through, perhaps we are his backup plan.

Goldtop, I hope Phil picks Detroit... because if he doesn't I think you're going to be very disappointed.

It's great to dream about a Phil/Shaw/CP3 off-season... but don't get your hopes up

IF the Kings become the Sonics Phil will leave... and if the Kings stay the Kings do you really want to be his second choice?

If he's willing to go all in on the Pistons then he should be all out IMO.

Another interesting note on Phil -

Leiweke has been in contact with Phil Jackson, but that is not yet seen as a likely scenario for either party, in part because Jackson is engaged to Los Angeles Lakers executive vice-president Jeannie Buss. Instead, Leiweke says Jackson is merely one of several NBA figures who is providing him with advice.

So is Phil advising both TOR and DET?

I'd love to have Phil working in our organization full-time, but if he doesn't, I'm not going to be any more disappointed than I was 2 weeks ago when it was just Joe running the show. So not sure what difference it makes if he doesn't.

Either we get him and it will be a great addition, or we don't, and we will back in the same place before without having lost anything. That's an easy gamble to take.

No I don't care if we are his 2nd choice. If CP3 wanted to sign with us, but only after he found out if the Lakers were interested or not, would you then turn him down and not sign him? That's nonsense.

so... if it's unlikely Phil takes over TOR partly because he's engaged to Jeannie Buss does that also mean he's unlikely to take over anywhere?

And if Phil is advising TOR and DET why would Gore sput up with that?

Here is Phil Jackson getting info from the Pistons... and possibly using that to help TOR... or he's getting info from TOR and using it to help us

Either way it's a bit weird

Phil has never assembled a team before... if memory serves he got butthurt when Cupcake told him to back off in LA! We all know Krause ran the show in Chicago!

Yes, Phil is a master coach - able to control NBA players with his Jedi Zen tricks... but coaching talent and assembling it are 2 different things.

Completely different situation...

As an advisor to us Phil gets info that he wouldn;t have if he was sitting at home waiting for the Kings/Sonics thing to play out....

if he takes that info and uses it to benefit the Sonics I wouldn't be happy about it!

If CP3 only wanted to sign here after finding out some Clipper executive trash talked him behind his back I'd welcome CP3 with open arms! He's a quality player with a proven track record.

Phil as an executive? Completely unproven... dude has never been an executive before

Coaching is a completely different gig

yeah, that makes you think this advisor position with the Pistons is nothing, if he's doing the same for TOR's owner too.

But at the same time why did Gores make a big public announcement over it, if just a common friendly favor that Phil does with all his executive friends?

TOR didn't feel the need to announce on their website that Phil was advising them.

You also have the reports of Phil wanting a permanent advisor job with a team like Jerry West has in GS, which adds more confusion to these "advisor" roles he's taking. Are these the positions he's referring to when he says he wants an advisor position?

idk, too many mixed messages going around on this topic. We'll just have to wait until it plays out. Eventually a new Pistons coach is going to have to be named, and the longer it plays out, the more reason for me to believe something is going on involving Phil and they are just waiting on Shaw to be available or something.

Honestly, why else would Joe be doing all these courtesy interviews? Lindsey, Bickerstaff, Walker, etc. Frank was fired almost a month ago, and in the time since they have given more courtesy interviews than to actual real candidates. Makes me think these fake interviews are just them stalling, buying them time while they wait for Phil or Shaw, or something. Maybe even waiting for Obradovic. Who knows at this point.

iirc the only real candidates they've interviewed so far have been McMillan and Budenholzer. If they were going to hire one of them, they could've done so already. I believe there is no rule in place against hiring assistants while they are still in the playoffs for another team. They are stalling for someone/something else, imo.

As per Wiretap
The Detroit Pistons do not have a leading candidate in their head coaching search, according to sources.

There is belief, however, that the Pistons will elevate the process at the NBA draft combine in Chicago.

Phil Jackson has agreed to help the organization in an advisory role and could have Brian Shaw at the top of his candidate list.

I hope Shaw is at the top of the list! Whether he brings the triangle offence or Indy's hard-nosed defensive style I'd be rapt :)

From Langlois' Mailbag:

I’ve heard nothing but good things about how Dumars and Jackson interacted during Jackson’s time in Auburn Hills last week with both men enjoying the company and perspective of the other.

Kings are officially staying in SAC. No Seattle franchise. Good news for our chances to keep Phil full-time.

I'm rooting for GS as I want quicker access to Budenholzer.
