Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
ummm, Rios vs Pacman is now official for November 23rd in Macau.
I guess Alvarado showed too many skills in the 2nd fight vs Rios?
This is a clear showcase fight where Pacquiao is just gonna tee off on a guy that really is not that good with the perfect style to make Pacquiao look "prime" again. The only shot in hell that Rios has to win that fight is if Marquez just completely destroyed Pac's iron chin to Amir Khan level glass. I seriously fear for Rios' health after this fight, 2 wars vs Alvarado and now a sustained Pacquaio beating back to back to back is gonna take years off his life.

Michael Koncz, the adviser to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38KOs), has advised BoxingScene.com that a deal has been reach for the Filipino superstar to face the always dangerous Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23KOs) in a welterweight contest on November 23rd at the Venetian in Macau, China.
Because of the twelve hour time difference, the match will technically take place in the morning on November 24th in Macua, but the actual HBO Pay-Per-View will air at the normal start time [9EST/6PST] on Saturday night in the United States.
There were two fighters in the running, Rios and Mike Alvarado - but Pacquiao and his team felt Rios would make for a more exciting fight.
"It will be Brandon Rios, everything is squared away for the Venetian in Macau. Manny felt the style of Rios would be more fan friendly and make for a more exciting fight for the fans. Manny wants to come back and avenge the tragedy of what happened in his last fight and what better way than to get in a brawl with Rios. I think it's a win-win for everyone. It's a perfect style for Manny and it's going to be an exciting fight. Everyone knows that Manny likes to engage and brawl and everyone knows that Rios is going to come straight-forward and throw a lot of punches," Koncz told BoxingScene.com.
Pacquiao is returning for the first time since a deadly sixth round knockout at hands of Juan Manuel Marquez from last December in Las Vegas. Prior to that, he lost a controversial split decision to Timothy Bradley last June. In his last fight, Rios lost a very close and exciting twelve round decision to Mike Alvarado in March. In their first encounter, Rios stopped Alvarado in the seventh round of a "Fight of The Year" frontrunner last July.
If Pacquiao were to lose the fight with Rios, Koncz admits that it would be time to sit his boxer down and discuss the possibility of walking away. He says Pacquiao's future in the sport is certainly on the line with Rios.
"I think Manny's safety is number one. That's why it is a very important fight. I think we are going to be okay and have a tremendous win. If God forbid that doesn't happen, you are right - we will have to sit down [and discuss retirement]. It will be a very entertaining fight but it's also a very important fight for Manny. We need to have a very tremendous night that night and we have to come up with a tremendous victory," Koncz said.
Koncz indicates that press tour is being worked out, with stops in Macau, New York City and Los Angeles.
The Filipino superstar will train for a week at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles before heading over to General Santos in the Philippines for the majority of the camp. The tail-end of Pacquiao's camp will take place in Macau, says Koncz.
Koncz is a leeching douchebag by the way.

Don't know about a Pacquiao stoppage, Rios is one crazy, tough MFer. He'll take a hell of a beating but he'll have his moments as well.

Agree with you 100 percent. The only way I see Rios winning this fight is if that Marquez KO results in taking years away from Pacquiao's life. In other words, he has to be on a real decline. But if there's no significant decline, this fight ends up the same ways at the Margarito fight, except Pacquiao doesn't take his foot of the gas pedal this time. This ends in a stoppage. It really is a good opponent for Pacquiao to look good against.

There are times that a ko like Manny's is too much to come back from. Wasn't Glenn Johnson right after Tarver for Roy? Much smarter fighter but similar style to Rios in being in the phone booth.
Can't blame Rios though. Too much money to pass up.

It might be best for Rios's health if this just ends with a KO cold and he can retire w/ a high 6-figure payday.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Stupid fight for Pacquiao. He needs a tune up. Rios gets hit by Pac all day, but Pac doesn't need another war. Has to get his health together before he enters the battlefield. These are the kind of fights that destroyed Ali's brain.

Pac makes it a war if he decides to trade with Rios and ignores defense all together. Kind of like what Alvarado did in the first fight. I can't see Pac doing that after what happened with Marquez. I see this being like the Margarito fight. He gets hit, but doesn't sustain any kind of significant damage. If anything, I fear more for Rios's health. He too could have used a tune up fight before engaging in a rubber match with Alvarado. Instead, he's going to eat a ton of punches to the head once again.

I don't know who to favor Saturday. Showtime is putting two sticks of dynamite in a phone booth and televising it.

Lebedev vs Guillermo Jones was a brutal fight, guys came out of car crashes looking better than Lebedev and Jones showed off some of the greatest chin display ever. Here's a look at Lebedev, it's disgusting
Ref only stopped to check his eye once in the 11th and the doctor said it was okay, effing Russia man

Matthysse just overpowered PEDerson tonight. Dude is going to destroy Danny Garcia and Khan as well. He's the best light welter out there right now. He would KO Bradley if he ever moved back down to 140 as well. The guy is just a beast.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
I thought he would stop Peterson later in the fight but wow, wasn't expecting it to happen that early. Once Peterson stopped staying on the outside after round 1, the fight was practically over. The power between them was just a stark difference, it was incredible. I agree with Butch, don't see Garcia being able to handle this guy. Garcia has real good power himself but he's a bit flat footed and more of a puncher than boxer, which plays right into Matthysse's hands. I still think Matthysse is the most powerful puncher at 140, possibly in the sport next to Golovkin.
Alexander won his fight easily, heard that he might be facing Khan next. I'm thinking one of these guys is Floyd's next opponent on September 14 because I doubt the Canelo fight can be made, so we'll see.

Garcia looked scared ****...
Lucas can and will run over him.... Judah after a KD tagged him... so what does that say about him?

Well I kinda think this is a little bit of a case of apples and oranges here. Mattysse and Judah aren't the same fighter. Judah does have quicker hands than Lucas. That being said, I think Garcia looked worried. I think he respects both guys and was expect a much more competitive fight. When Lucas Mattysse destroyed Peterson I think he shat himself.

I don't think Alexander gets Khan or Mayweather next. If Canelo isn't Mayweather's next fight it will probably be Amir Khan. He's the next big money opponent available. It'll be such a shame that beating a scrub and struggling against a has been like Julio Diaz might be enough to get Khan a shot at Mayweather but Alexander represents too much risk for absolutely zero reward.

Peterson fought incredibly stupid. Lucas is a terrible boxer and anyone with half a brain who doesn't feel the need to try and man up could box circles around him. **** main event all around. Only thing I took away from last night is Alexander looked great buy Purdy was a tomato can.

Reading up that Antonio Margarito is attempting to come back because he needs the money since his ex-wife basically got him good in a settlement case that supposedly cost him millions of dollars. Unbelievable.
