Re: CP3
Like others have continualy said, their are teams in front of us that are
A.better destination
B.already playoff bound
C.better assets
D.Better players,starters and bench
and like others have mentioned our draft pick will be gone this summer, and whoever thinks knight and #7 are to much for paul, paul is better than anything in this draft and knight isnt anything special to where you couldnt get another player to take his spot in FA,I guess alot of people get loopy around this time with the draft ,cap space, being in a position to finally do things to make us better.

This thread has got to be a joke that I'm not in on.
I was thinking the same thing. I saw this at the top of the thread list and thought, "this is still a thing?"
I know a lot of you believe that getting Chris Paul would completely turn around the Pistons, and that we he would come here if we just showed him we wanted him, or whatever your disillusions are.
But, A- If CP3 came to Detroit, he doesn't immediately make this team a contender. He couldn't get the Clippers to be a contender even though half of their bench would start for Detroit. Also, if they signed him, the window to compete with him is very small at this point. Which brings me to point B- Because he's very much aware of his age, and his knee issues, CP3 does not want to be a part of a rebuilding team, he doesn't have the time for that. He wants to be in a situation where he feels he can legitimately compete for a championship next year, not the year after or the year after that.
Give it up people. I don't know who is going to be the answer for Detroit's PG problems, but it's not going to be CP3.

Paul for Rondo trade was actually discussed before he was traded to the LAC. He didn't want to go to Boston though. He obviously wants to win, and the big market endorsement money to go along with it.
I think its between the Clippers, or Mavs if they can make the right moves.

The overall talent isn't quite as deep, but he would have to deal with the Heat, who own the eastern conference. Then, with DRose, the Bulls are going to be the hands down second best team next season. Pacers are only going to get better as well.
So, the talent level from teams 1-8 in the east isn't as deep, but the powers at the top are some of the best in the entire league.

If that was going to be a significant deterrent they wouldn't even consider it.

They may not have another option. If they don't bring him back, who are they going to get instead?
Not many coach's will go there to work for Sterling.
And if they bring him back, with no capspace to add any more talent, will Paul really want to resign there with the same team and same coach that couldn't get out of the 1st round?
If they fire him, is it guaranteed they will find someone new to appease Paul?
That coaching situation is why I believe he could leave.

Re: CP3
^There is no way on earth their coaching situation is as wrought with uncertainty as ours. We need a head coach too, and we don't exactly have a track record that fills coaches with confidence at all, whatever you may think about coach's opinions about Sterling.
Honestly, I think you'd be a lot better off if you looked at our situation with respect to Paul with the same critical eye you look at the Clippers situation.
You can poke holes in their situation all you want but the bottom line is that its much better than ours by any reasonable measure, and that's without even factoring in money.

You talk about things so matter of factly as if you're entrenched in the middle of NBA circles.

Bump for Broussards sources lol

Chris Paul is angry with the Los Angeles Clippers' organization due to how he has been widely blamed for the dismissal of Vinny Del Negro, according to a source. Paul will be a free agent and it is unclear if it will impact his decision, but the source said it could lead him to explore options elsewhere.
"He's angry right now and his anger is directed toward the Clippers organization," the source said. "Chris is a man of principle and if he feels like you've gone against his principles, it will affect how he feels about you. He's very agitated that his name has been put out there as the reason for Vinny's firing. He had nothing to do with it."
The Clippers can offer Paul a five-year, $108 million contract and it has been widely assumed that he would choose to re-sign. The source said that Paul might be willing to accept a deal for less money due to the situation.

Re: CP3
This was my first thought when the Sterling response came out to whether Paul was the impetus for firing Del Negro. I thought there was no way Paul could be happy with that.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: CP3
This is rough math, but If the Rockets found someone with a large amount of raw cap space (Detroit/Cleveland) and got them to take Asik-Lin-Robinson-Delfino-Garcia-White they should be able to do:
Paul/Beverly
Harden
Parsons
Jones/Montiejunas
Howard/Smith
If CP3 & Dwight really want titles that option may be tough to top.
