How does this board feel about drafting Shabazz if he is there? I would personally think it would be a great value at #10.

I think he's a black hole (0.8 assists-per-game) and he also comes with drama. Not interested.

But i am not sure if we would be drafting him in hope he can distribute well. He is a one dimensional player, offense which is something we need (scoring on the bench).
He is meant to be in the open floor, fast paced offense, and a lot of people believe he was limited in UCLA's grind it out, half court offense.
Also, the drama is worrisome, but its from his family. Other than accepting some gifts, he hasnt really done anything himself. His parents admitted to lying about his age, and coercing him to pick one school over the other etc.
Lot of the drama would hopefully disappear in the pros. His contract is set in stone when drafted, same with his team, and you dont hear too much about family issues converging in to NBA life.. Unless you are ZBo's brother.
Just my point of view, but you could very well be right.

Combine measurements are out.
Noel is 206 pounds. I think he falls now. He is going to have to gain a lot of weight just to be able to play PF. I am wondering if he falls all the way to #10 now.
Mclemore is also measuring small.
Oladio small, but long arms.
KCP had good size measurement. He is going to jump.
Shabazz is on the small size for a SF. So he will need to convince teams he can play SG. Doesn''t look good to me.
Trey Burke has good measurements. He could be #1.
Otto Porter had great measurements. Another #1 contender.
Zeller measured well. 6-11 and 6-11 arms. He also claims he has a lot of shooting range. I think he jumps back up the board.

McLemore measures as expected, 6-5 with 6-8 wingspan
Noel is a top5 no matter what happen, even with both knees damaged, the draft is that weak
Caldwell-Pope is going to jump where exactly? no way he crack the top10
How is Bazz small for SF? legit 6'6 with monster winsgpan and strong as a bull, Pierce played almost his whole career as SF with that kind of body and game.
Porter is a role player, no way he goes 1, even if Cleveland wins the lotto
Zeller is a top10 for sure

I really like the idea of taking the players with the highest scoring averages and the highest pers. Muscala, Green, McDermott, Plumlee, McCollum, Olynyk.
I think we can grab CJ in the first, and if we're lucky Green, Muscala, and McDermott in the second. I would be very happy with that draft.

I'd give this a -1 if I could. There's no such thing as "too risky @ 10". When you're picking that low, every player is going to carry a level of risk with them. Bazz is no more risky than Gobert, Dieng, Len, or anyone else in the 7-14 range of this years draft.
which is why len's injury is so misfortunate. while he doesn't have the athleticism drummond has, he was still an interesting prospect. but ankle surgery at 19... even if it's an isolated incident, it certainly sours a player with potential after how many times we heard that about oden. still, best of luck to him.
DusterBuster wrote:There was an interesting sentence in that article....If the Blazers keep their lottery pick -- and that's a big if as it appears Olshey will look for willing trade partners -- it is likely the team pursues a shooting guard.
It's possible this could just be Quick speculating. If that's accurate though, it could mean to start focusing a lot more on the SG's of this draft instead of the C's, especially considering most of the C's at 10 look to be just as big of projects as Meyers is.
honestly, trading the pick seems like the best move, but zeller and plumlee look less like projects than leonard. that said, they also give off a career backup vibe. if the blazers view leonard as our starting center of the future, using the pick on a solid but unspectacular center to pair with him long-term while using the cap space to pursue a proven shooting guard in free agency - iguodala, evans, mayo, reddick, jennings, ellis, etc. -
might not be the worst move the blazers could make, especially if the blazers could also sign o'neal or dalembert in free agency. although, that plan definitely puts a lot of pressure on leonard to develop in order for the team to not be stuck in mediocrity.
DusterBuster wrote:Gobert's stats are pretty insane.Chad Ford wrote:Rudy Gobert 7'0.5" in socks and 7'2" in shoes with a crazy 7'8.5" wingspan and insane 9'7" standing reach.
but does he have the athleticism to back it up? we have already established that he has a small frame for such a body. while players like mutumbo prove that height/weight combo can work, it seems to be more the exception than the rule.
DusterBuster wrote:Portland could have two projects, BUT if that's how they're going to roll, they need to commit to it fully and ship off the veterans in LMA and Wes.
or they could invest heavily in a proper development staff. why paul allen spent so much on draft picks during the last rebuild, only to chase off assistant coaches like tim grgurich is mind boggling.

Wizenheimer wrote:In Marc Gasols first 23 games in Euro and ACB play, he averaged less then 6 minutes a game. Good thing then that Portland didn't draft him in 2007
and where was marc gasol drafted? I have no problems drafting gobert in the second round, and honestly if he proves himself in team interviews, I am okay if portland drafts him at #10. but you were suggesting trading a more proven euro in kostas papanikolaou, a recent lotto pick in a much deeper draft, and our current lotto pick to try to get gobert. while there is a chance gobert might live up to that hype, that is a lot of assets to give up given the blazers current lack of depth.
Wizenheimer wrote:I stand by my contention that Portland may be better served in the long run by trying to find and develop their own defensive C rather then looking for some short cut. The viable options among veteran C's is pretty unattractive this summer
that ties into retaining aldridge, though. ultimately, I don't see this team winning a championship until miami declines. so maybe a solid team that can compete every night is the best option, which retaining aldridge helps obtain.
James72 wrote:How does this board feel about drafting Shabazz if he is there? I would personally think it would be a great value at #10.
I am not a fan of him long-term, but I can see him being a value pick. imagine the value sacramento could have got for evans after his rookie season, memphis after mayo's rookie season, or milwaukee after jennings' rookiee season,. in the right situation, muhammad has the talent to replicate that. but in order to do so, you'd likely be playing a style of game that is not conductive of winning, and you risk alienating aldridge. but depending on how the draft plays out, if he falls to #10, there is a reasonable chance he's the best player available, presuming the talk about always drafting the BPA is true.
James72 wrote:But i am not sure if we would be drafting him (muhammad) in hope he can distribute well. He is a one dimensional player, offense which is something we need (scoring on the bench).
which begs the question, what does muhammad bring that barton doesn't? and as fans, would we be willing to see a more athletic barton go through the same rookie lumps this season? and if so, what do you do with barton? trade/flip him, right? not saying I'm opposed to it. just saying there is a lot that you have to consider.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
This is a draft where the individual workouts will be critical but remember Shabazz
has been a touted prospect since middle school and its been said Ben Howland's
coaching at UCLA held back players for just look at what Jrue Holiday and
Westbrook did after they entered the league. Picking at where are at 10, I'd
pick the player that has the best chance at being a star and a player like
Shabazz is such an intense and focused player, its really hard to see him totally
miss.
I'd like to see the team get one of Oladipo, Shabazz, McCollum, etc over reaching
for another project big.

Re: Draft prospect early editon ***Updated Polls
In regards to Muscala, it was brought up a few weeks ago and I was very keen on him. What I basically said then is exactly how I feel now also.
He reminds me of a Kyle O'Quinn prospect judging from the numbers. One of those very nice senior players (good back-up quality) who gets passed on because he isnt a 20 year old 'potential' player.
I'm starting to like the idea of grabbing one of the scorers to have a nice impact off the bench (maybe even work their way into the starters).

man take a look at the leaked measurements they are crazy. Rudy Gobert is not thin at 237lbs. Noel is crazy thin at under 210lbs. Steven Adams is easily he best specimen 6’10.75’’ without shoes and a 7’ 4.5’’ wingspan, weighing 257 with a 6.7 body fat% 9’ 1.5’’ standing reach, and good big hands.

How so? He shot a high FG% like a Center. There was an article a few months back that had that along with other aspects to put him in what might be his best position. He is more of a high post big.

I have to agree with this. It would be foolish to not go BPA and pin our selves to a wing at 10. Especially since there are so many good perspective big men at 10.

besided his huge wingspan and standing reach Gobert surprisingly weighed 238 lbs and I read some comments his frame could add another 20-30 lbs, only 4.4% body fat.
Dieng measured well at 7'3 1/2 and a big standing reach at 9'3 1/2, he came in a little light at 230 lbs.
Noel was scrawny at 206 lbs
Adams excellent measurements and a stud at 257 lbs

Man I kinda wish we had Adams instead of Meyers. He is gonna have a Meyers like rise and go no lower than Thunder at 12. Still hope we work him out though.
