OFFSEASON TALK!!!

Post#1 » by RIPskaterdude » Fri May 17, 2013 5:44 am

I've never been so excited to talk about the offseason. With the team officially being sold today, where do we go from here? Due to the short turnaround, do you guys expect Keith Smart or Petrie to stick around another year? I hope not. Let's talk about new head coaches, GMs, FAs AND THE DAMN OFFSEASON OF THE SACRAMENTO KINGS!!!

I say we offer phil jackson the same role pat riley had with the heat coach/president. I'm sure his experience as both w coach and player evaluator would be absolutley tremendous. In that time he can groom an assistant coach to take over as he shifts more to the front office role.

The only worry I have about Phil Jackson is he is 67, 68 by next season start.

If you can't listen to Phil Jackson you're just an idiot. I think having Phil on the bench would really clear up the "if Demarcus Cousins can actually be mature" issue.

Phil will want to retire for good what in 5 years or less?

That is the gamble with him.

Part of me thinks if you can get Phil do it and worry about it later.

I expect Petrie to stick around for at least the offseason, its way too late in the scouting game for the draft to replace him.

ZERO chance Keith Smart stays on. The ownership group believes that with competent management, this group of players can make a big turnaround. I'm down for the ride. Get rid of some of our guards, pick up a SF, and lets roll.

I was just talking about Smart to a coworker. I don't believe the Kings coaching staff put winning 1st this year but focused on development on individual players. That's why you saw increases in DMC, Reke, IT, JT, and Thornton but it didn't translate to wins. Maybe that is what Smart is good at doing?

I just think we're in a place to finally make the jump to being competitive. I don't know if that is with or without Smart. Petrie is going to be gone on his terms I believe. Wiretap makes it seem like we're entertaining bringing in Chris Mullin. I like that there are rumors about us.

As far as the SF void I would like to see us bring back Kevin Martin OR a guy who can get his on minimal touches and play good defense.

Phil won't be on the bench. He's done coaching for good. And apparently he said on Leno the other night that he won't be taking a FO job with us.

I'm thinking Vivek will look for young blood anyway.

And I don't agree that it's too late to get a new GM. We just have to get somebody who's already in the league, and has already been researching this crop of players.

One nice thing about this whole saga is I've been so distracted with the issue of staying or not staying, that I haven't been going nuts waiting for the lottery. Now it's only a few days away.

1. I don't see Kevin Martin as an answer for this team, especially at Small Forward

2. In my eyes I don't see Phil Jackson coming to the Kings, unless it's something like Pat Riley does and he's able to stay over at least 7-8 years. If he's only using a team to get his NBA fix for the next 3-4 years then I'll pass....

3. As far as GM's and Head Coaching candidates go...seems to me that we are going to steal some of the staff from the Warriors. Mike Malone assist coach and possibly Chris Mullins as GM.. I know there's no doubt Keith Smart is out for good. Though I would like to see him come back as an assistant to someone like Mike Malone, since the players seem to have a good bond/chemistry with smart. Also Petries contract is up in 2 months....so I see him getting kicked to the curb for a new gm....here's where im getting my information from : http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2013/5/17 ... ach-rumors

It's not the best thing out there but we need a person who can hit outside shots and play defense at the three. Obviously Martin isn't the best defender.

I would like to see this team built around DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans. Right now it's built around nothing.

If Kmart were to come back I sure hope that meant Thornton was gone, there pretty much the same type of player, kmart being more efficient.

Per Wiretap:

Mullin. Rumors about Monta Ellis. Congrats on officially keeping the team, but these rumors = out of the frying pan...

The highlights of Mullin's Warriors GM career:
Hired Mike Montgomery as HC
Drafted Andris Biedrins
Signed Derek Fisher to 5 yr, 30m deal
Drafted Ike Diogu 9th (Andrew Bynum, Danny Granger and *ahem* Gerald Green were W's board favorites at the time)
Acquired Baron Davis for Dale Davis
Signed Mike Dunleavy to a 5 year, 45m extension
Drafted Patrick O'Bryant
Traded Mike Dunleavy/Troy Murphy for Stephen Jackson/Al Harrington/Sarunas Jazzycabbages
Traded Jason Richardson for Brandan Wright and Jamareo Davidson
Drafted Brandan Wright while the W's board SCREAMED for Joakim Noah (to be fair, a lot wanted Yi too  )
Signed Chris Webber about 15 years too late
Drafted Anthony Randolph
Inked Monta Ellis to a 5-55 extension
2 months later, Monta wrecked himself on a moped. Mullin tried to help him sweep it under the rug
After Baron was reportedly hung-over in our most important game of the year, Mullin tried to ink him to a 3 year extension. Was nixed by team president Bobby Rowell
And his last big move: signing Corey Maggette

I know W's fans are supposed to hate Kings fans, but trust me - you do not want.

The offensive model not necessarily Kevin Martin himself is what I'm looking for. Martin doesn't need the rock whereas Thornton does to be effective. We don't need Danny Granger per say but I feel we need someone who is extremely efficient and doesn't need the ball to be effective. If he can be a formidable defender that would be nice as well.

The Peja of old would fit here. A Kawhi Leonard type would be great. We do need someone who is a very good 3pt shooter and can be effective without being a rock pounder. If you give Evans and Cousins floor spacing my goodness...

Yeah please keep Mullin away from here, I would rather have some fresh blood somewhere else.

Lots of measurements coming out now.

Oladipo and McLemore with 42" verticals.

that's why im praying for Otto Porter Jr...if he can keep developing his 3 point shot...he's the exact guy you're describing
