What if Jordan had played with Shaq?

Post#1 » by NorrisColeWorld » Fri May 17, 2013 8:15 pm

Kobe puts an interesting twist on the same question we've all heard a dozen times.

Kobe Bryant ‏@kobebryant 4m
The comparisons are #apples2oranges Wonder what the perception would be if M played wit @shaq instead #differentroles #differentcareerpaths

If Jordan and Kobe switched situations what would each outcome be.Would young Jordan have played second fiddle to the most dominating force at the time, Shaq. Would Jordan have one those 3 Finals MVPs?

How much more or less would Kobe have achieved with those Bulls squads?

I really have no clue. I would guess Jordan and Shaq would have at least 1 FMVP a piece. Not sure how many chips they would win before they try to kill each other though. Would be like a 10 peat if they could play together.

No other hypothetical duo would be more dominant/better. Talk about unstoppable.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

And lol if you think Shaquille would get FMVP over pre-retirement MJ

this is why I don't get how some penalize the lack of fmvps that Kobe has (it depends on context tho, jordan comparison it does have to be taken into consideration). Alot of all time greats would be 2nd fiddle to Shaq.

He played next to a guy who was impossible to match up. Of course the guy is going to get the better numbers when he's the biggest mismatch (just look at 07 spurs, it was clear Parker was the biggest mismatch for the cavs)

depends how they came together. If Jordan is already there as the established alpha dog by the time shaq gets there, then he has the swag to be the unquestioned leader. If its under different circumstances, then who knows

Elaborate please? Jordan dominated Shaquille on more than one occassion, even scoring 61. This was after 1st retirement, not even his prime. The guy who got DpOY and scoring title in the same year? you had the best of the league calling him GOAT and referred to only after one championship, saying things like "Ive never seen a player play like that. Thats god disguised as michael jordan". He is the most alpha-star NBA player we've seen, has never been second fiddle in his career. And now, without 3 sec violation and hand checking, a perimeter-oriented game?? Only an idiot would think Shaquille would lead that team. I understand you hate me posting about Mj or the league now, but even a fool should be able to look at some of these things logically.

I think Jordan would have killed Shaq. As competitive as Kobe is, Jordan was just a psychopath. Dude would invent slights just to fuel his competitive drive. They would have won a ton but my God talk about ego.

While I agree with that, getting FMVP has nothing to do with being an alpha-star. If Shaq had better numbers or played better in the finals (which is a possibility), then he would in fact get FMVP over him. Second fiddles can win FMVPs too, it's all based on how they play in the Finals.

What's Kobe's point? That Jordan would've gotten less touches? That he couldn't have handled Shaq's personality? That playing with a dominant center would've taken some shine off his legacy? I need more.

Can you imagine Jordan yelling at Shaq and calling him out on his goofiness? This pairing will be as successful as the Kobe and Dwight duo this year.

I'd have said the same thing about Jordan and Rodman prior to '96.

He would probably leave pies outside Shaq's locker every time they lose a game.

I agree with this. But I still think w today's rules and Shaquille alongside, its automatic and more easy for Mj to score than even Shaquille, plus you look at the defense steals playmaking and difference maker that Mj was in the finals (even averages 1 more assist per than lbj finals career, for instance). I could see Shaquille taking a couple if they win 8 championships, but consider how great popped was and he had no argument for even one of those six.

Personalities would definitely clash. That or Jordan gets Shaq to stay in shape and not half ass the regular season as he was known to do.

Shaq would get the FMVPs. Anyone that thinks otherwise is a kobe hater/MJ homer.

Phil would run the system through Shaq as it did when Kobe was there. MJ would do the same thing Kobe did. 2004 MIGHT have been different in end results. But you never know.

It would be idiotic to think he'd run things through MJ.
