Addition By Subtraction.
As I know all of us are really disappointed with our teams post season success, there's a lot of hope for us in the future.
- This team has shown to be near unstoppable when we have adequate ball movement, and remove the glue from our hands. What has shown to be repetitive is when JR and Melo are in together, we are stuck playing ISO ball. We might have gotten away with that in the regular season, but in the playoffs, defenses are tougher, and they can contain ISO ball a lot easier. JR was a victim of playoff basketball. We had the worst #2 option left in the playoffs, and it came back to bite us. Letting him walk will be a blessing in disguise.
- In fact, we may have our #2 on the roster. Amar'e and Iman will have their first offseason together healthy, and ready to work on their games. Amar'e finally being healthy can improve our teams offense as well. Next year I believe we should re-insert him into the starting lineup. Amar'e at times last season was looking like the Amar'e of old, except with an improved post up game. At times looking Al Jefferson like. Creating more playing time and opportunities for a fresh Amar'e will let him flourish, and is really our only shot at becoming a contender. We need Amar'e to contend. Need.
- Iman is also a guy that can develop into a very good #3 option. With his knee at 110% next season, Shump will be one of the most explosive athletes in the game again. Now with a very good jump shot, and dead eye ability from 3, Shump has the potential to be a 17/5/4 guy for us playing elite defense as well. If he spends his off season working on his ability to get to the rim, we may have found our Paul George.
- Letting go of JR allows increased opportunities for Shumpert to gain scoring chances. Whenever JR was on the floor, you'd see Shumpert get phased out of the offense. Addition by subtraction.
- We have very few trade pieces, so I'd like us to try and sell high on Felton. Maybe Chandler has some value, I'm not sure. I'd like us to edit one or two of our pieces if we're serious about a finals run. I don't want to be stuck like the Alanta Hawks have been.

COPE stays with this team. If Cope leaves, you ahve to resign JR.

JR Smith is 2 years younger than Copeland. Grass isn't always greener.

There's no way Copeland nets more than 3 million a year. A 29 year old journey man that is a one sided player. Prigs is a 35 year old backup PG. Also don't see him getting more than 3.

Re: Addition By Subtraction.
I'm conflicted myself
I really dont want JR back, but I dont see us acquiring a legit 2nd option
If we trade Chandler, then we're going to need a Center
I dont want JR back...but he's the best we can do as far as a 2nd option goes

Losing JR is subtraction by subtraction.
We need to make the team less reliant on JR by adding elsewhere or changing our gameplan. But to just lose JR without replacing his production ? We become worse.

Re: Addition By Subtraction.
Op, as much as I like Shump I dont see him as a #2 option, and Amare may not even be #2 off the bench.
JR did not hinder Shumps growth as a player.
One of the many reasons why the bench was high scoring was because of JR Smith.
Inefficient and a knuckle head, but you're not likely to replace his two talent with a minimum contract player.
Please no one say Delonte.

And then when Amare is hurt again, and Shumpert's knee flares up we're really thin on offense.

So, your idea is to send the same roster back out, a year older? JR won't work as a #2 option. We're not getting one at MMLE

^ What? lol.
My opinion is to let JR walk. Find efficient offense from within. (Shumpert, Amar'e, Cope.) Maybe deal Felton and Novak/our pick for an upgrade at the point.

Felton is our best chance at PG. Shump's knee is an issue, Amare's knees are an issue. Cope could be too expensive.
If you're not going to be realistic then I 100% agree with what you said.

I'm sure there are better options out in the market better than Felton. Felton has relatively decent value, and we can find more of a playmaker. Keeping this roster as is is a recipe for mediocrity. You need to fix it. Chandler and/or Felton have to go.

Are you sure Felton has good value? Did you see what happened to him last time he got traded? He gained weight and stopped caring. I am very sure other teams have noticed that. Chandler needs to go I agree.

You're not finding a starting quality pg for 3 mil or a guy capable of putting up 18 for vets min.

Lol what are you getting for Raymond Felton or what are you getting on the market that's better? Felton, Novak and a pick? Who the hell is trading a better pg for that fun bevy of "assets"?

I don't think Chandler is our only issue. He had a bad playoffs and was injured, but he is more of a team defender than shot blocker. I wouldn't mind seeing him leave, but we need a #2 option.
And Felton was the starting PG for a team that won 54 games, desperate teams looking for winning atmospheres will over trade for him. I can see the duo of 6 and 2 being dealt together for a young piece.

Could you suggest a hypothetical because I see nothing that is realistic in getting a better pg than Felton.
