Darren Collison

Post#1 » by pistons » Sun May 19, 2013 7:54 pm

What do you guys think will be his market. IF ( and it's a big IF) , we aren't sold on Knight's ability to be a full time PG long-term , I think Collison could be a nice player to have. He can give us 14-15 , PPG , be a distributor , knock down the open shot , and play good defense. I'd give him 4 years , 24 mil . What do you guys think ?

He's a bad three point shooter, only averaged 12 PPG playing 30MPG for the Mavs, who get tons of good looks with Dirk. 5 assists.

If he was open to being a backup and competing with Knight for the starting job, I'd be game. Don't know if I'd go much over 4-5mm for 3 years on him, with a team option on the third year.

i think his role is a backup point guard who can step in when needed(due to injury or foul trouble) and be effective, fast. id welcome him on the team but he has some pretty big flaws that wont be fixed since they havent, yet.

I'd rather have Collison run the point over Knight... we keep trying to come up with compliments for Knight instead of what's the best fit for the team.... Knight should be the backup combo.

A PG that can't play PG. Na, I'm good. Knight, who has been putrid so far as our PG, still has more upside and at least he can shoot.

Knight is a 41% career shooter... 37% from 3 pt
Collison career 46%... and 36% from 3 pt.

Collison is still a project, he is in a very similar spot that Knight is so it doesn't make sense to have both of them since they will likely stunt each other's development.

Collison is heads and shoulders ahead of Knight. I don't think Collison is the solution, his TO% is way too high, in fact that's the only comparable number between Collison and Knight, both have a 17% TO ratio, which is absurd.

Collison is superior in everything else, including 3ptFG%, FG%, eFG, TS%, PER, AST%, Steal%, OWS, DWS, WS. Collison is a decent starter PG but like I said, I don't think he would be the solution because of the turnovers.

In a young team with Greg Monroe who's biggest flaw imho is the high Turnover %, we need a PG capable of take care of the ball.

Greg Monroe was ranked #11 in total turnovers this season, that's how bad it is, and all 10 players ahead of him are guards except by Kevin Durant.

If we can get Collison cheap I'd love it tho, he would be a fantastic backup PG, one of the best in the league imo, as a starter and being paid as a starter I'd pass. If we get Collison to be our backup PG, Knight must go.

I'd rather have an experienced vet to backup and help with Knight's development.

Dude!

How often do you read my mind?

After reading the Yahoo article & doing some more research I did a little digging on his contract...

His contract for next season is not fully guaranteed... it becomes fully guaranteed if the Pacers don;t waive him before the 15th of July

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they don't waive him... which means he won't be available via free agency until July 2014

I'll pass on Collison. For what it would take to bring him in, I'd rather resign Calderon. I don't see Collison working with Drummond/Moose.

This completely. Would spread the floor nicely whether he started or came off of the bench.

I love Lance Stephenson.

Collison is worth a little more than what the Pistons pay Will Bynum. I say around $4.5 to $5 mil per.

lets be cautious here though guys. Lance Stephenson is a head case, but in the right environment he can thrive. He also is about as consistent as stuckey so that's a concern. my point was, definitely not collison

Stephenson will not be available!

I posted his contract info in this thread. The only way he's available in free agency is if the Pacers waive him. I don't see them doing that when he's making less than $1 mil

Stephenson is not a realistic option:

1) He won't be a FA
2) As a player still under contract, the Pacers won't trade him to us
