Draft Lottery Prediction Thread

Post#1 » by Bensational » Mon Apr 29, 2013 8:39 pm

I thought we may as well have a bit of fun with the upcoming Draft Lottery.

Everyone take a quick moment to pay worship to your basketball overlords/false idols (Diener/Pat Williams/Rak-attack/etc), and take a guess at what the final draft order will look like. Then after the lottery, we can compare and give a bag of virtual cookies to the winner/s.

After long praise to Shivakamini Somakarvakram, I've decided that basketball karma will reward the following:

1 - Washington
2 - Phoenix
3 - Utah
4 - Orlando
5 - Charlotte
6 - Cleveland
7 - New Orleans
8 - Sacramento
9 - Detroit
10 - Minnesota
11 - Portland
12 - Philadelphia
13 - Oklahoma
14 - Dallas

This will be the first draft that sees neither of the bottom two landing a top 3 pick! Stern will buck the trend of rewarding teams that have had a superstar forced their way out of town to a larger market (because he hates Orlando/or because he acknowledges that this is a crappy draft and he's saving our 'karma' for next year's draft).

This is a great opportunity for Stern to reinforce the notion that this is, indeed, a "lottery", by providing a shocking result. meanwhile, he gets to tie up a few loose ends. Washington get the final piece of the trio that will carry them into the playoffs for the next 5+ years (Noel/Beal/Wall), and it placates another superstar and prevents them leaving town. Phoenix, is given the #2 because it's a convenient opportunity to reward a strong and loyal fan base that have also just lost their superstar. Keeps that market strong (without much risk of giving them a true superstar). Utah gets a high enough pick to draft their PG of the future (Burke).

Only in basketball could politics and religion gel so harmoniously.

I wanted to put Portland #2 too. I ran the mock draft once after they updated it and it was Orlando, Portland, Charlotte.

1) Phoenix - Noel
2) New Orleans - Mclemore
3) Orlando - Burke
the rest just fall into order so there's sort of only a point to predicting the top 3 if anybody wants to save time, lol.

the cynic in me says we & phoenix will get 1/2 this year for losing dwight/nash, and then next year the raps get #1 so toronto can get wiggins.

Why are some people putting OKC in the list? Do they get somebody's pick this year or is this just an error or what's the deal?

That's our least likely spot mathematically. 4 is most likely. Everyone seems to think it's 1, lol.

There is a 46.5% chance Orlando will land in the top two to select one of the two blue-chip prospects: Noel and McLemore.

And you are correct as Orlando has a 35.8% chance for #4. Another way of looking at this, though, is that Orlando has a 64.2% chance of being in the top-3.

At 3 or 4, if the Magic does not trade down, one would suspect the team will over-reach for Burke.

My prediction is that if Orlando drafts either #1 or #2, they will draft McLemore, and if #3 or #4, Burke.

Yes, they acquired Toronto's 1st rounder from Houston in the Harden trade. Houston had it from the Kyle Lowry trade. It is top 3 protected.

I'm not trying to be a butt munch, but this thread has "jinx" written all over it.

With that said, I kinda hope we get #3 so we have no excuse not to draft Alfonso Clark Burke III aka Trigga Trey.
