Yeah, but I don't think it I because he would not want to play in Dallas; it is because we have a Hall of Fame starter at his position.

You think this will be possible? someway somehow Cubes convince Paul to come here.
We do a S&T with LAC, we send Cunningham there.
We trade the pick for Gortat, straight up.
Mayo decide to re-sign with the MLE, because of the high winning possibilities here.
We let everybody else fly, we hven't enough money to retain Brand or Wright, unless they paid for vetmin or BLE excep, maybe Brand agrees on that, but I'm not sure.
We draft a comboforward in the 2nd round, Roberson/Leslie or an european prospect that falls.

We fill the team with vets or young cheap legs, a list of guys that could be useful

I heard an idea on the FAN the other day (not sure who said it) that Dallas should offer CP3 and D12 a 4yr contract a little under the max but make the 2nd year a player option. That would allow the Mavs to max them out for 5 years the following year (I think) after Dirk's salary drops and Carter's expires. We'd probably still have to move Marion.

Just wanted to get your thoughts on that idea if it is even realistic.

Not allowed.

Player and team options are only allowed at the end of the contracts to add one more year. They can, in theory do a 1 year deal with an optional 2nd, but they cannot have an option year before the last one on the contract.

An ETO is allowed on year 4 or later (regardless of 4 or 5 year deal).

So they'd have to do something similar as Mayo last season?
Can they do something like that for any amount below the max?
Please excuse my ignorance on ETOs.

I doubt either of them would do that unless their ultimate desire is to play together and Dallas would be their only or best option.

Yes, they can do that for any dollar amount up to our cap limit.

But I think we have a better chance of winning the draft lottery than any prime age superstar with an injury history agreeing to a 1 year deal to play with Dirk (due to his age) and risk injury the same year.

It is of my opinion that both would be playing with less hustle to do avoiding injury and when we fail at the end of the year, they will be discouraged and leave. I don't want that.

Who is nba updates? Are they related to anyone close to Dwight or just repeating other news?

I think most people know that the teams Dwight is looking at are Lakers, Mavericks, Rockets and Hawks. There may be a dark horse out there somewhere, but those are the main 4 I keep on hearing.

Dirk plays for the minimum this year to allow Dwight/CP3 to receive a max contracts. Next summer Dallas gives Dirk a max deal and they're able to go over the cap with his bird rights... Unrealistic Dirk takes that extreme of a paycut but would that scenario be allowed under the CBA?

No the CBA prohibits voiding contracts like that if I'm not mistaken.

I guess. I know he didn't want to. I know Haslem is the "PF" but Haslem does a lot of the stuff in the middle in tandem with Bosh. Dirk would not defend in tandem with Bosh thus exposing him.

Regardless, I don't see Bosh ever wanting Dallas so long as Dirk is here.

Dirk is already under contract for this coming year for 22 mil...

I was sure on that until I started looking for a source. I think I may be wrong on that. I know on trades, he can't go back to the original team until the following year. Amnesty I think is til the end of the original contract. But re-signing with the team that waived you is allowed.

I am not sure if Dirk can negotiate a $1 million buyout and then return on a vet min deal. Obviously, he has to clear waivers and there are many teams with the cap room to take him, but....

I don't know. Yesterday, I was sure this could not be done and now I am not finding references to support that.

I'm fairly certain that "can't re-sign with prior team" is not the case ...but it doesn't matter anyhow, this isn't an idea that the Mavs would ever consider.

I think this is exactly what the creative minds of the Mavs front office would do if CBA legal especially if the net result is Paul, Howard and Dirk.
