OT Red Rocket going to the finals?!

Post#1 » by orbesnet » Tue May 21, 2013 1:23 am

Maybe it's too early, but I see the Spurs finding a way to the finals and maybe challenging if they stay healthy all the way. Matt Bonner, the man, the legend, in the finals - and former Raptor Tracy McGrady making his deepest playoff appearance no doubt. It's great to see the Red Rocket getting some real minutes. Blows my mind.

That's Pop for you. Best coach in the game.

Pop is like Casey only he makes scrubs play like good players b/c of his great system.

He works hard and knows his role. He's basically what I hoped Bargnani could become for our team, but even then you'd get more out of Bonner because he shoots very good %s. He's a no style all substance player

Bonner is better all-around value than Rudy Gay.

Bonner won a ring with them his first year there, although he barely played.

Tracy McGrady has played a TOTAL of 17 minutes for them during the playoffs, appearing in 4 games. He doesn't have a single point and has taken only 4 shots total. He's not exactly a contributor, although he'd get a championship ring (and more importantly, be credited as an NBA Champion) if San Antonio were to win it all.

I believe the Red Rocket already has a ring... and he actually contributed to it.

He didn't really, but he's proven he can be a contributor on a contending team since.

Its a win-win. If Spurs do lose, then Ed Davis is in the finals. Him and his 2mpg.

Cory Joseph is the real story. Backing up Parker and all this big game experience is going to be massive for Team Canada.

And if Bosh doesn't make it, we have Roy Hibbert to represent former Raps

Kinda on topic; is Matt Bonner a Canadian citizen?

He tried to become one to play on the Canadian national team but the puckheads in Ottawa would not allow it IIRC.

Who cares about Bonner. Cory Joseph seems to have a bright future. Perfect Organization for him to grow.

As a Raptors' fan I'm envious of the way Pop develops his players/their roles. Look at the before and after for guys like Danny Green, Cory Joseph, Kawhi Leonard, Matt Bonner, Gary Neal, George Hill etc. A part of me wishes Pop acquires Bargnani as a joke, just to see what happens..

We give Pops so much credit for that team - and he deserves it 100%, one of the greatest coaches of all time - but from everything I hear or read, Tim Duncan may deserve equal credit. He's the perfect epitome of the no-flash, all-business approach that has allowed that team to be so successful with using complimentary pieces where they should be used, not where they want to be used.

I hated the Spurs for many years - boring game, boring team, fairly dirty, etc. etc. - but I've come to think that they probably should have been my favourite team all along. I believe that they just took on whatever form was necessary to best utilize their players and win a championship; it's pretty remarkable.
