For those who think the lottery is rigged: Who will win?

Post#1 » by EddieJonesFan » Tue May 21, 2013 4:13 pm

I'm doing this poll because I hate the conspiracy theories that follow every lottery and how they point to how the league would have a motivation for the winning franchise to have the no.1 pick, and that's supposed to be evidence of a coincidence too great that it must have been rigged (even though they never actually posit a practical way for them to rig it, and most of the time they prove they don't know anything about the lottery process.) You can come up with a motivation for the league wanting to help out any team. So all the conspiracy theorists, put your money where your mouth is now before the lottery results are in, so you can't lie and say you knew the league was going to win it for X franchise. You don't get to pick wrong here and then act "not surprised" that another team won. Who's the obvious choice here?

PLEASE POST YOUR VOTE TOO

*Sorry the last 5 teams had to be combined into one poll option, the max is 10. Just post what team you're picking if it's one of those teams. Unless a mod can help me out ;)

I like this type of threads because it is a good way to shut people up.

Sacramento and Orlando are the obvious conspiracy targets. Toronto is a conspiracy darkhorse with the whole Bryan Colangelo situation. However if ever there was a draft with no conspiracy this would be the one. There are no franchise altering picks this year. To maintain a web of lies, you need to occasionally be honest. Next year however is a different story.

Orlando and Phoenix just lost their stars, Sacremento just got a new ownership group. Bobcats desperately need the help and are owned by Jordan. League still owes Cavs for losing LeBron. Detroit is one of the leagues most storied franchises and need to be reborn. I could keep going but younger the point.

So conspiracy is the rule?

That's the funny side of history.

Every single crap of team deserves 1st pick for some reason.

And since those teams are the worst in the league, they have a great chance to get the first pick.

In the end, all teams "deserving" a help will amount 80% chance of drafting first pick, and any of them winning will prove there's a conspiracy.

Actually I think CLE might. I think the NBA sees potential in an OKC like team in CLE if they can get Noel. A team of Kyrie, Noel, Waiters, and Thompson will sell seats in a few years. The NBA probably sees that.

Whether it's a theoretically optimal year for a conspiracy or not, the point of this thread is to limit the number of people crying foul and saying how obvious such and such team was going to win, after the fact.

The Kings are the obvious one but I think this is the year the Bobcats finally get the top pick

Toronto gets it and then OKC gets the 1st pick to make up for their tornado

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

Not sure, but you should fix the poll since OKC technically can't move into top 3. (it's top 3 protected)

You have to post the odds...I'll go Magic, the safe choice and it does make sense. I actually think the Suns would be interesting if they won it.

Orlando Magic: 25 percent
Charlotte Bobcats: 19.9 percent
Cleveland Cavaliers: 15.6 percent
Phoenix Suns: 11.9 percent
New Orleans Pelicans: 8.8 percent
Sacramento Kings: 6.3 percent
Detroit Pistons: 4.3 percent
Washington Wizards: 2.8 percent
Minnesota Timberwolves: 1.7 percent
Portland Trail Blazers: 1.1 percent (pick belongs to Bobcats if outside of top-12)
Philadelphia 76ers: 0.8 percent
Toronto Raptors: 0.7 percent (pick belongs to the Oklahoma City Thunder if outside top-3)
Dallas Mavericks: 0.6 percent
Utah Jazz: 0.5 percent

Portland or Sacramento. Obvious reasons all connected to Seattle.

Cav's lost Lebron, they got the first pick.

Hornets lost Cp3, they got the first pick.

I'm thinking the trend continues here for Orlando.

I don't want to toot my own horn or even say that it's rigged necessarily, but I have called the last five. I can't even necessarily remember my reasoning for some.

Davis to NO
Irving to Cleveland (Makeup for LeBron)
Wall to Washington
Griffin to LAC (LA big market, needed a star to form rivalry with LAL)
Rose to Chicago (hometown, big market)

This time around, I truly don't know. There's no true number one pick that is just clearcut better than the rest.

What? They drafted Kyrie the following year.

I voted for Sacramento, but if they do not win it, Orlando will. Every year there is a goddamn story either before the team wins the lottery or after, and Sacramento and Orlando have the biggest stories of the year, in my opinion.
