Clipps hope to sign David West with the MLE...huh? He's on a better team in a better role right now, why in the world would he sign for less on a lesser team to be a backup? Puzzling...

It's still alot better than CP3 to the Knicks in a sign and trade for Amare and four buckets of KFC.

Poor fricken Kings....

Listening to the radio and they were talking about hoping to move up but 6th would be fine. They get 7th...god.

So glad the Warriors aren't in that position but I couldn't help hurt a bit on behalf of near by team that has had a rough run....

I feel sorry for the Bobcats.

Hopefully they are lucky enough to win the lottery next year and draft Wiggins.

Anyone think Mith will actually amnesty Kobe if Dwight leaves? Kobe's contract is so abysmal that there's just no way they can adequately rebuild with him in tow, especially without any meaningful picks the next few years. I really hope they don't amnesty him so we can watch them suck for the next couple of years.

The Lakers fans in LA would kill everyone in the front office if they amnestied Kobe. Not happening. I thought Gasol was the logical choice, but it sounds like they've changed their mind or are hoping for a trade. That leaves MWP and Blake as amnesty candidates. This is the last offseason the Lakers can use amnesty under the current CBA.

LAL doing a GSW amnesty style. IE. a waste of the amnesty clause and haunt them for years financially.

Logics say Kobe, but we know it will never happen. Would love to see that though, so Kobe being paid MLE or for Cleveland.

+1

As if a media writer writing about CP3 wants to accept MLE to play for the Warriors because he had a close relationship with Curry, and wants to play next to the best shooter in the NBA history.

Kobe's only under contract for 1 more year - so it wouldn't haunt them for years, it's just a big luxury tax hit next year. MWP is the one who's contract goes into 2014-5, which is why he's the likely target. They could even wait until next summer to amnesty MWP, but that's unlikely as they'll be in the 300%+ range of the luxury tax this year.

MWP has one year left on his contract for 2013-14 (player option year). It's Nash who goes until 2014-15, and he can't be amnestied, although he could be stretch waived during the 2014 offseason.

I'm pretty sure MWP's player option year is 2014-5. And he's certain to pick that up.

Nash aslo goes to 2015 but can't be amnestied. The stretch waiver doesn't seem like a good idea because then you're got a cap/tax hit for several years after a player is gone.

Nope. 2013-14 is his last contract year. Hoopshype, Shamsports, and Basketball-Reference all have 2013-14 as his last year.

Or you could go with the LA Times article from the end of April 2013:

There's been a ton of trade board threads where Laker fans point out that they're going to amnesty MWP due to the 2014 cap space plan. I assumed that was based on accurate information.

Dirk Nowitzki got as many all-NBA votes as JJ Hickson. Wat.

Despite being well under .500, Portland outscored their opponents when Hickson was on the bench. Hickson started, so he was usually playing with Portland's 4 competent players, and when he went to the bench, he was replaced by players from Portland's horrible bench, but just getting Hickson off of the floor made Portland much better.

Yet with his PPG and RPG some incompetent GM is going to give him $8M/yr.

As a side note, I don't understand Portland's obsession with getting a 7' C. They've got a very good 6'11" C already. The LMA/Hickson pair struggled not because of Hickson's hight but because he's not a rotation-quality player and a bad defender at any position. It would be so much easier to get a quality starting PF next to LMA than make desperate moves for a center.

We call that "the Maggette effect".
