Porter's ceiling = Paul George?
Just wondering if anyone else likes the comparison?
Both 6-8 with elite wingspans, reliable mid-range jumper and excellent defenders.

Porter's ceiling isn't in the same stratosphere as Paul George. Porter is a halfway decent prospect who'd be borderline top-10 in next years draft. Paul George was an all-star level player in 3 seasons. Nothing about Porter's game indicates he'll be an all-star caliber player. He lacks explosiveness, dribble penetration ability, shot creation ability off the bounce, and his form is eerily similar with Ronnie Brewer's. Players can get by in college with terrible form, but in the pro's, where the defense is vastly superior, will it work? I have serious concerns that he'll be an above average shooting SF. Right now I project him to be a below average ball-handler/shot creator, and an average shooter. That's Trevor Ariza, not Paul George.

Wasn't Paul George a borderline top 10 pick also? i think your either severely overrating George or underrating Porter. Porter's mid-range game is better than George's was coming out of college, his jump shot is not broken but actually very good. The shot creation of the dribble isn't there yet, but neither was George's at the time. And Ariza is completely different player, hes a spot up 3 point shooter, Porter is a better a passer and much more lethal as a pick and pop option.

That's about it. Which shouldn't be insulting. Prince has a ring, and a gold medal.
Paul George is bigger, stronger and more athletic.

If Otto Porter can have a career as distinguished as Prince's, that would be pretty neat.
Prince is one of the best role players in the league and a champion.

Paul George is closer to 6'10'' now and also is more athletic and defensive minded than Porter. I don't like the comparison. Porter reminds me of Sean Elliot some.

If you make Paul George a mediocre athlete he becomes Chandler Parsons. Not that there's anything wrong with that, though Porter is not a guarantee to get to Parsons level if his shooting doesn't translate

Paul George is much more athletic than Otto Porter. That said, there is no reason to cap Porter's ceiling at Tayshaun Prince. Porter does a lot of things better than George did coming out of college - actually pretty much everything in the skill department.

Chandler Parsons is not a mediocre athlete.
Parsons is also not a scrub defender. Parsons just happens to be white. Parsons is a top 3 pick his year based on his performance in the league.

Ah, the classic "How dare you compare a prospect's ceiling to an all star!" post. I bet we can go back and find similar arguments in the Paul George threads three years ago.
If the two were coming out this year, based on the season Porter had at Georgetown and the one Paul George had at Fresno State, I guarantee Porter goes ahead of George.
Is it really such an outrage to put them in the same sentence?

WHat does Porter do really well besides pass? hes not fast athletic or explosive and hes gonna have problems creating his own shot in the league..
To me hes a bench player

Re: Porter's ceiling = Paul George?
Paul George is a one of a kind beast and I do think Porter is more like Prince but with better offense.
With that said, most people didn't think George was gonna be what he is becoming and theres a reason he fell to #10. As recent as last year there were tons of people that said he didn't have allstar potential. So saying George is different and all that is just plain wrong. Porter could very well surpass peoples expectations as well.

Re: Porter's ceiling = Paul George?
after a while you start to realize how pointless these exercises are.
All the same people who are dismissing Otto Porter's ceiling right now were also placing Paul George's ceiling at "ehh, might be as good as Granger one day" when he was getting drafted. Now its "ehh Porter might be as good as Prince."
I think I'll stop coming to threads with "ceiling" in the title from now on.

Foreal, some people completely forget that Paul George was not an elite prospect and completely outperformed his draft position. Porter will have a lot to improve on obviously to be mentioned along side George but to just dismiss it based off of what George turned into is rediculous.

George put up very good numbers at Fresno State, if he played for Cal or UCLA he'd go Top 5 but since so many scouts and GMs are dumb they had put Jan Vesely and Al-Farouq Aminu over him.

He reminds me of Batum more than George. And yeah the Prince comparisons aren't a slight, he's been a key role player on some good teams for a very long time
