Stan says he still hurt from firing, wont go to Amway Center

Stan had an interview with Mike Biachi's morning show on 740am and he said something really interesting. He was asked if he attended the Paul Mcartney concert at the Amway Center and he said no because he cannot bring himself to go to the Amway because of the memories of the games/moments he had there. He said it would be too emotional for him. He said he is still hurt from the firing last year. Sounds like Stan is having a hard time moving on. He said he loves Orlando and he does not want to move away.

I would love to see Stan come back at some point, he truly wants to be here.

I like Stan Van Gundy. I hate that he isn't the coach of Orlando because of a guy we dumped anyway.

As much as I like Stan's ability to push players to limits beyond their knowlege, I was absolutely tired of his sideling antiques. His constant negativity and emotional outbursts that would bring every player's confidence down was just too much. I really dont miss him. but like him a lot. He is a perfect fit for clips.

SVG should still be coaching our team.

& there is absolutely nothing that can be said that will change my mind.

I just love when ppl say he is not good at developing players..... :lol:

Not even gonna bother listing the players who thrived under him.

SVG combined with our young team would have been awfully fun to watch develop & grow together.

I'll always consider Stan Van Gundy the best coach the Magic have had. I think he was made a scapegoat by Alex Martins for the Dwight Howard mess. Yeah, he outed Dwight in that press conference about Howard wanting him fired, but hey Stan doesn't tip toe around stuff and I respected that about him. If I were running the Magic I'd bring the guy back, that's no shot at Jacque Vaughn but I truly believe SVG should have never been fired in the first place.

Didn't you hear? Since Stan didn't play future all-stars like Ish Smith, Justin Harper, DeAndre Liggins, and Daniel Orton on a playoff team he can't develop talent.. :lol:

Let Jacque finish off the rebuild, and then I say we launch a "BRING STAN BACK" campaign. It would be pretty messed up for Jacque, but we gotta do what we gotta do to win games

agree. He had no issue belittling his players to the press and also throwing the FO under the bus in the press. He isnt some rookie coach, he knows things work themselves out behind the scenes, but he always seemed to want to create tension through the press. Great for reporters, bad for the players that play for him and the owners that pay him.

i agree that he developed players more than people give him credit for. But why did it always take players over a year to learn his systems, when other coaches had their systems in place and the players working in it in 1/4th the amount of time.

Why would the FO & certain players be talking behind SVG back when they know in fact what kind of person he is. He is not gonna sugarcoat anything & I loved that from the head coach.

& how many times did SVG take the blame for a Dwight or Hedo bone head move?

Until Dwight became the super diva SVG wasn't creating tension...he would always take the tension off the players by taking the blame, even though Hedo may have jacked up a fade away Dirk type 30 footer to try & tie the game, or Dwight & his childish self was out there throwing elbows at guys heads in the playoffs & picking up suspensions.

I will say it until Dwight proves it otherwise. SVG was the GREATEST thing for Dwight. They worked so well together & he pushed Dwight just about as far as he could go. Dwight was considered the SECOND best player in the league with SVG. Now some teams may be questioning whether or not they even wanna make a run at Dwight.

Stan got his players to over-achieve and have the 3rd best record over a 5 year span. As long as the team wins and players develop over time, I got no complaints.

Who cares how long it took them to learn his system. That system got us to the finals & multiple ECFs. That system could have very well won us our first title.

& now what system are we stuck with? Do we even know after 1 full season?

Well said. Stan was always the first one to take blame and he was the one that challenged and got thru to Dwight until his ego got too big. He also was not as rigid as some people believe, he had no problem tailoring the game plan to suit his players strengths. His teams were always prepared.

I almost never heard any Magic players criticize Stan with the exception of Dwight now and then. But, I remember many post game interviews where Stan seemed emotional in the defense of his players. He truly cared about his guys. Former players like Redick and Dwight still say they talk to Stan almost weekly. Wouldn't doubt Shard or others still talk to him either. He was like a father figure to them who had the highest expectations from his kids. He is probably my personal favorite NBA coach of all time. I enjoyed just about every post game interview even when he messed up.

I was pretty critical of SVG during the whole Dwight fiasco, but I'd gladly welcome him back. Maybe the whole experience caused him to grow a little and clean up some of his habits. Like someone else said, even apart from the Dwightmare, Stans' open criticism of his players wasn't all that constructive.

I remember when Stan was the coach in Miami, I was a fan of his then too. I had always thought he was the scapegoat then for Pat Riley to take over just to win the Ship.

I thought so too. I've always felt that Miami would have won the title the year they lost to Detroit if 1) Shaq didnt have that deep thigh bruise that was clearly affecting him. 2) Wade doesn't have that rib injury in the conference final (i think he missed at least a game and when he did play he was clearly way off)

Still with all that they went 7 games against the Pistons and lost it in the last few minutes. The master of panic thing by Shaq was overstated.
