Who or what is worth "blowing it up" for?

Post#1 » by HomieOmey » Thu May 23, 2013 11:05 pm

TL:
"We have a lot of work to do with this roster, I disagree with Bryan that we are one piece away"
" I have spoken to people around the league about the make up of this roster and a few of them said blow it up"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I take "blowing it up" as trading at least two of DD (14.81), Bargnani, Lowry, and/or Gay (15.66) (our four highest paid players)... with Amir being a likely casualty. The biggest problem I see with this is that all four are probably worth the least they've been worth in a while. Looking at Ujiri's two big trades, we could likely expect to trade Rudy for two decent yet less talented (but younger) players or DD with Bargs, Lowry, or Amir for one more established player. Of course, truly "blowing it up" suggests trading for a collection of picks as well. We already traded our pick for Lowry, and most are happy that we have Lowry over a pick in the 8-16 range.

What exactly should we be targeting if considering blowing things up? What kind of pick or player would be a good start?

A. Young PG's who MIGHT be available (ranked by per for last season):

1. Kemba Walker
2. Tyreke Evans (With DD as main piece)
3. Rondo - might like Lowry and Gay combo to stay competitive
4. Eric Bledsoe - LAC probably can't afford to keep him.
5. Jeff Teague / Jrue Holiday
6. Jennings
7. Rubio?? No clue how available he is
8. Someone I forgot?

B. Young Swings who MIGHT be available:

1. Gordon Hayward (16.81)
2. Danilo (16.73)
3. Tobias Harris (16.05)
4. Louis Williams (15.98)
5. Eric Gordon (15.43)
Someone else??
6. Reddick/Ilyasova combo if we can convince Reddick to want to sign here

C. Young bigs who MIGHT be available?

Andre Drummond (21.69)
Milsap (19.89)
Donatas (12.28) - might take Bargs IF they strike out on Dwight.

D. Potential lottery picks in 2013 or 2014

4th pick from Bobcats? 2014 pick from the Cavs or Bobcats? They could desperately use some offensive players.
6th pick from the Hornets?

I'm okay with losing anyone but Valanciunas at this point. I'd also like to retain Amir Johnson, would really hurt losing him.

we should definitely see how this team does at least the first month or 2 of the season before blowing it up IMO

Nobody. Its a stupid idea. See what you can get for Bargnani before you decide you wanna lose for another 5 years.

If we're not a playoffs team over the next 2 years, being slightly worse isn't a bad alternative since the difference between 35-40 wins and 25-30 wins isn't a whole lot in the big picture.

Valanciunas is the real deal and is worth using as your long-term foundation. To me it makes more sense retooling the entire team now than as he's approaching his next contract.

Where did that quote come from? Ive heard the first bit, but not the part about blowing it up? Last I heard he was channeling his inner BC and something along the lines of people around the league telling him we had a young promising team.

Keep JV, Amir, Ross, and Acy and maybe DeMar. Get rid of everyone else.

So he's asking NBA people unconnected to the Raptors, possibly linked to other teams or League execs what to do with the Raptors? OK...

BTW, if PJ said blow it up it'll likely be blown sky high. :x

If it's a stupid idea, keeping BC would have been the safe choice moving forward. Most GMs want to make their stamp on their team, and if TL is being completely honest, he has heard a few respectable people tell him that doing so would be the smart choice. It's not like any one on the team clearly proved they are worth building around... other than Jonas, of course.

If this team was to be blown up it would not be for anyone currently in the NBA. It would be for one of the top 5 in next year's draft. Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Smart, Harrison etc...

(assuming this is true) I love how TL continues to throw Bryan "The Used Car Salesman" Colangelo under the bus.

SMH @ one piece away; sure if that one piece is Lebron James.

I don't think leiweke said that. He did however say we are not 1 piece away. No way in hell MLSE blows this team up and misses the playoffs for another couple years. Hes counting on trades and maximizing our draft picks, lottery or not.

I say We blow it up right now and rebuild the right way now that BC is gone. THE DRAFT!
1) First thing i would do is package Klow And DD to the team that drafts Dennis schroder, whatever exp contracts they have, And a 1st or 2nd rd pick in next years Draft. (Schroder is gonna be the best player out of this draft And the steal)
2) Second thing i would do is Amensity Bargs or trade him to the timberwolves for a 2nd round pick + an expiring contract.(Preferably a backup pg like ridnor
3) Third Thing to do Go After a good valued Free Agent that isnt overpaid like JJ reddick
4) Fire Casey & Allen Anderson and Get Del Negro (MAKE SURE HE KNOWS WE ARE TANKING THIS YEAR)
5) TANK FOR WIGGINS IN 2014 if we dont get top 3 pick in 2014 try and package gay wit the pick we get for a higher pick...Our team would then have young stars Cap Space with the exp Contracts we get in trades and lots of upside

2015 playoff run
PG Dennis Schroder (young Rondo)
Luke Ridnor
JL3
SGJJ Reddick
Terrence ross
SFAndrew Wiggins
Landry Fields
Linaz Kleiza
PFRudy Gay
Amir Johnson
Quincy Acy
CJonas Val (All Star)
Aaron Grey

let Wiggins Val And Scrhoder Grow together :) OFC this is just in a perfect world but it would be a good plan to strive for to push for a championship :P 8-)

Demar, Gay, Fields have to go. Anyone else not named Val should go but not a big deal I guess.

Draft Wiggins.

Hire a coach to maximize the Val and Wiggins tandem.

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

The ideal situation for this team would be to fold and move to Seattle.

2014 first round draft pick to Chicago
Charlotte’s 1st round pick to Chicago protected for selections 1-10 in 2014 or 1-8 in 2015 or unprotected in 2016 [Charlotte-Chicago, 2/18/2010]

Youre more likely to get MEM/MIA Future 1sts, then theirs, then SACs protected pick from CLE in that order. But its clear they arent trying to move them unless its for a great player, jokingly DG88 and I mentioned Rudy Gay hah.

You dont target specific players and/or picks. You accumulate as many young assets/picks as you can and move in when the opportunity presents itself. Unfortunately thats where most rebuilds go wrong. ATL went all in on JJ for Diaw and 2 future firsts (and still ended up sucking initially) too early, and we know from history how that resulted.
