Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part V
If we do draft Bennett, I hope we look at keeping both Ariza and Webster long term. Ariza is not going to command the same salary in his next contract, and hopefully we can get Webster for less than MLE. I think we have a good rotation at SF, and hope we can keep that and then look at other holes to fill.
For those Porter supporters, how much better do you see the Wizards' SF spot production being with Porter over Ariza/Webster?

If it is cheap, I could see the justification. The Magic might be willing to do it for a small incentive like Booker or the 37th pick.
Moving back looks like it could have some good options. The first incentive I would go for would be a 2014 1st, but as we have discussed a lot of them are tied up in protection and likely won't be available. If the Suns would part with the 30th pick that would be good assuming Len or Bennett was still available. The Twolves have the 9th and 26th pick and are rumored to be interested in Oladipo, probably also would be interested in McLemore.
The #37 and Booker seems a bit too expensive for me. Singleton or Ves, sure. I wouldn't mind doing the Phoenix trade for the #30, but wouldn't want the Twolves deal, as there is a dropoff after the top 5 or 6.
I agree that both Booker and the early 2nd would be too much to move one spot in this draft.

A couple of years from now, Booker and the 37th will make about as much difference to our playoff aspirations as what your neighbor had for dinner last night.
If you want Noels and all you give them is Booker and the 37th, you do it. It'll either be a good trade or a bad trade based on what Nerlens does in comparison to what you'd have gotten out of the third pick. Booker and the 37th is inconsequential to these sorts of decisions.

Porter has way more game off the dribble than both guys. Ariza was laughably bad at times trying to score off the dribble. Martell at least doesn't try to do much off the dribble other than straight line drives to the rim.
Porter would surely be much more effective in non-scoring catagories than Webster. Not sure if he will be the defender Ariza is but he should be good.

Both Vesely & Seraphin had two of the biggest regressions from '11-'12 to last season I've seen from recent draft picks. Were talking falling off the cliff type performances. That should be concerning IMO. I'm not ready to see THIS front office take a chance on drafting a player with questionable motivations just yet.
Vesely and Seraphin arrived with much different (and much bigger, I guess) question marks, and no one I recall was willing to say they might be the best or among the best in the draft (as some say about Bennett), but I'm not convinced the Wizards know yet how to deal with a project player. Wall and Beal appear sufficiently self-motivated to want to address their shortcomings, and willing to take instruction. Unlike Bennet, who is undersized for his position, I don't think they arrived with any relevant physical shortcoming. I'll keep my eye on Bennett, particularly regarding his standing reach, but I'm pretty leery right now.

My word for what most old posters here like to pull after they are horribly wrong on their predictions, if we don't pick drummond...
You weren't alone in hyping Drummond, and people that underrated him based on his foul shooting and various rumors have generally owned up to being wrong. Such revisionist history doesn't make you even more right than you already were about ten time all-star starting center of the NBA Champion Detroit Pistons (drum roll please, then crash cymbal) ANDRE DRUMMOND!!!
PS: I'm watching Adams too, as are a number of others here. Can't see using #3 on him at this point, but definitely in a trade down situation. Would be amazing to somehow come out of this draft with a future starting center, a rotation stretch 4, and a decent combo guard/backup PG.

And the Bennett glass half empty compels me to add that ford said that Bennett has the best chance to be an all-star, not that he has [significant amounts of] all-star potential. The wording is weird about the "this time last year" but I took the gist of it to mean that he thought that Beal and Davis were much more "sure" all-stars than Bennett.
he's also said in multiple chats that Bennett has a very good chance at being the best player in this draft. Not just an all star, but the best player, a few years down the road. Never have come across him saying that about porter, in any of the chats, whether referring to what scouts have said, or his own judgment.
For some drafts, the best player in that draft is just a 1-time allstar (2000).

For next season or for the next 5 seasons?

The next 5 seasons. I don't think Webster's production was a fluke, and Ariza (27) should be solid for the next 5 years, assuming we can pen him to a reasonable deal.

I really hope the Wizards don't trade the pick before picks 1-2 play out (like #5 pick that ended up being Rubio). I have a feeling the Cavs are going to pick Porter. Since Trey Burke or McLemore are good fits for Orlando, I could see Noel slipping to us. You have to pick him if he's there. A Noel/Beal/Wall core makes my mouth water.

According to the Orlando board, they would absolutely take Noel at #2 if the Cavs take Porter. So to get Noel, the Cavs would have to draft him and arrange a trade with us. It looks like it really might be a possibility. The tone on the Cavs board is that they really don't want to deal with a project like Noah and they love Porter.

Is this the fan base arguing that, or real genuine smoke and rumors floating around from hoopshype and various other sources though? For instance we have zeller boosters here, but the only rumors ever associated with us since moving to 3 have seemed to be Bennett and Porter focused, and maybe a teeny bit of Len.

Maybe Otto Porter is like Brandon Roy- above average at everything but not excellent at anything. Perhaps the lack of zone defenses creates more spacing for Porter. The Calbert Cheaney comparison is interesting but I would point out that Cheaney didn't excel in the NBA because he was a below average 3 point shooter. What will be key for Porter to succeed is knocking down open shots along with getting to the foul line; he might have to improve his handle a bit.

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part V
Sources tell ESPN's Chad Ford that the Wizards are "very high" on UNLV F Anthony Bennett. It's widely assumed that the Wiz will go for local product Otto Porter if he's there at No. 3. But don't sleep on Bennett, a prospect with significantly more offensive upside. As a freshman, he lit up the underrated Mountain West Conference for 16.1 points per game on 53.3 percent shooting -- and did it in just 27.1 minutes a night. Bennett is an excellent shooter and ball handler for someone listed at 6'8/240.

I don't think that there are any rumors out there right now about Orlandos interest in Noel.
It'd be a hard decision for them considering Vucevic is a 12 RPG type of guy, but having too much of a good thing is a nice problem to have.

What happens if the 1st two picks are Porter to the Cavs and Noel to the Magic. The Magic are run by smart people. They know that defensive bigs are much more valuable than a guy like Burke (especially considering that Smart and Harrison are in next year's draft).
If the Wiz were stuck at 3, I'd take Bennett.

Vucavic is floor bound and has limited athletic ability to guard the pick & roll (things that Noel excels at). THey'd be a dream tandem. I think Noel's ceiling is 2. I don't see anyway he falls to us at 3.
Darn you Marcus Smart for staying. Apparently, Orlando was really high on him.

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part V
Only thing about Bennett that worry's me is on the defensive end and his lack of height. I really think we should trade up or we miss out on Noel for a undersize big man who doesn't defend worth a lick.

The Cavs aren't going to simply take Porter. They'll trade down.
Our 2 seconds this year and an assett (booker or seraphin most likely) is what it'd cost.

I wouldn't trade up at all.
I'd call thier bluff and gamble that Porter will still be available at #3.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

After watching that scouting video and the poor effort Bennett gave on d why would anyone want this kid still?

Except the Cavs already have two high seconds. I think the Cavs want to trade it for a good player. Problem is, who is that player?
