Trade the 8th pick for the Wizards 2014 1st?

Wizards fan here. I've been doing some thinking, and I'd like to inquire about the possibility of acquiring the 8th pick from you guys in return for our 1st round pick next year. Maybe it would have to be top 3 protected or something like that, but that's getting nit picky.

I'm thinking that if McLemore, Porter, Oladipo, and Burke are all gone by your pick, you guys might be stuck in a tough place where the best player available is a big man, and is pretty redundant for you guys with Drummond and Monroe already on board for the foreseeable future.

You guys could draft McCollum or maybe even Muhammad if his draft stock ever returns to Earth lol, but even though there's stuff to like about both, neither necessarily blows you away. But if you trade the pick to us, then you'll continue to rebuild/tank/develop for the next year, probably get a ton of ping pong balls based on your record alone, and then you'd get the increased odds at getting Wiggins or at hte very least a 2nd solid 1st round pick from the Wizards. That pick could honestly be top 10 once again, or it could be somewhere in the 13-16 range if we improve like I think we can.

Thoughts?

It is allowed to put protections both ways, for example:

Top 3 protected and 14-30 in 2014, top 2 protected and 14-30 in 2015 and '15, Top 1 protected and 14-30 in 2016 and '17, and unprotected in 2017.

If the Pistons really don't like the remaining prospects they could go for a deal like this but not realistic.

I think the wizards are going to be pretty good next season so their pick isn't going to be anything special.
I'd rather get someone this year

If there's someone the Pistons like a lot they'd decline. But, otherwise, I'd take that deal in a second. The Wizards play two fragile guards who, so far in their careers, cannot stay on the court. Adding two top rookies from this class won't do much to improve their record. I see a very fair chance that your team will be in the lottery again. Talk about the Wizards in the playoffs requires that a lot of "ifs" materialize.

That is if our pick is in the top 8 next year, bcuz of the Charlotte trade and I don't think Monroe and Drummond would let our record go there. We tied for the 7th worst this year (you remember) and we would can only go up save for injuries. Knight is going to improve too imo. You guys could go up too with Wall's seeming star status.

If the BPA is Len or Gobert, I think they would be assets to us. Back-up center means a lot in the NBA. I doubt Zeller or Bennett would fit well, but sometimes guys transcend their Chad Ford Weaknesses. We would be fine if we picked a big man as long as he is the right guy.

Anyways....I don't think your idea is bad, just not good and we shouldn't do it.

Not really. I have had fun watching the young guys play and improve. Kyrie is a joy to watch. We just have to tank for 1 more year and then we will be set. I like the young core we have now and the cap-space we have. Chris Grant and Dan Gilbert have done a great job making trades since LBJ left and the draft has gone pretty well for us.

The last 7 or 8 years have been spent either competing for a title or playing at rock-bottom and those are really the 2 spots you want your NBA franchise to be in. It stinks that it had to happen for us, but at least we have re-built this thing the right and smart way. We are one year away from really having something.

To be fair, a team with Kyre, Waiters (big time talent, not 100% of sure his fit on the team yet), TT, a lot of cap space, a lot of draft picks over the next few years, Varajao -- that's a team that has a very nice future.

The Pistons are lucky that there are no franchise talents available in this draft. Cleveland's unlikely to get a better player in this draft than the Pistons get.

The Pistons with Drummond, Knight, Monroe, Singler and MIddleton (two guys with very promising futures), outstanding expiring contracts in Stuckey and CV, and a ton of cap space - we're also a team with a very nice future.

When you look at potential futures 3 to 5 years down the line, which is about how long it'll take for building teams to get past Miami with LeBron, and Indiana with George and Hibbert, I think you've got to put Cleveland and Detroit at the top of the list.

IMO, this is going to be a hellofa rivalry. However, that's dependent on Kyre getting past his injury problems.

Things Dan Gilbert's done since Lebron left 1) sign checks 2) lie to the fans in an unprofessional letter 3) offend several franchises by celebrating at the lotto.

Things he hasn't done 1) make any basketball moves.

Enjoy Kyrie. Elite pro athletes get sick of losing pretty fast, especially when it's done on purpose. I'm sure a 2 guard who can't shoot and two bigs with no offensive game will convince him there's a bright future in Cleveland.

As for the OP, the pick next year would have to be unprotected.

Lol 2.0.

I won't go as far as say Ariza is a bad contract because he is an expiring but he definitely has no value at all. Martell Webster is better than him at this point and I doubt Webster gets paid more than 2-3 mil a year while Ariza is paid 7+.

That being said, I'd do an Ariza/Stuckey swap no picks included. Washington been searching for a combo guard for a while and Stuckey would be decent behind Wall/Beal. Detroit needs a SF and while Ariza is average at best that's still much better than Singler/Middleton.
