Case AGAINST signing KG AND good moves to make in offseason
Why in gods name would you want to get players in who will take a yea to get used to and be too old to play during the other before finally retisring in 2 seasons.
Why not go for a player like Anderson who offers the pick and pop and although he doesnt offer the intensity KG has at least he could play for us for longer than 2 seasons

Re: Case AGAINST signing KG AND good moves to make in offsea
why are you so obsessed with KG? garnett already nixed a trade last mid season to us and he would rather retire than become a clipper. end of story.
i can't imagine the pelican FO brass giving anderson a long term deal and trade him out immediately. he will be in their plan as their stretch 4. I'm sure it is EJ they are looking to move.
the player that is obviously on the market that is a stretch big is andrea bargnani. toronto is building a very athletic core of deronzan, ross, amir, and lowry. they would welcome DJ and move andrea, and bargnani does fit our need as a stretch 4, he is as good as they come to create space in paint for blake. problem comes on the defensive end, rebounding end, etc. one poison pill for another.

Probably didn't need a new thread for this with all the other off-season threads

If you like Anderson, there's nothing wrong with that. Present an argument for him and a scenario that is realistic for both teams. People mention KG or Pierce because there has been actual speculation from media people from both LA & Boston.

Yeah but that thread was designed for rumours and not KG which is what it was turning into

Don't want Pierce or KG & definitely not both. The both want attention like crazy & I can't see them being the 3rd star on a team.
DJ has to go, some of us don't want to admit it, but for us to win we need a better 5 & 3.Bledsoe may be able to get us some help through a trade. Lets get a coach 1st & then we can see what we need for their system.

i don't disagree with your assessment, but teams that have a clear upgrade for us at those two positions seem to already have their PG for the future or right now. it's not going to be easy for our young vice P gary.

do you think the Jazz's Gordon Hayward can play a #3 or is he too small? the Jazz may have some pieces for DJ & Bled w/ a sign & trade +++++ players?

With Kanter and Favors, DJ doesn't make much sense for Utah, especially since they also have two FA big men they could re-sign.

Maybe a deal of DJ and the 25th to Boston for KG wouldn't be so bad, if we also trade Bled to Utah for the 14th and 21st picks. That way we also acquire some building blocks for the future. For example, we could draft Gorgui Dieng with the 14th pick and Allen Crabbe with the 21st pick. We then try and do the Butler for Ariza swap and sign some good free agents.

Another thing we could do is make Utah absorb Butler as part the deal. That would create a 7-8 million dollar trade exception for us.

I think the best future and now moves are:
DJ and 25th for KG
Butler and 2014 1st for Ariza and 2nd round pick
Bledsoe and Washington 2nd for Utah Pick(s) (14th and 21st)
Cash and/or future first (2016 first) for Dallas' pick (13th)
Paul Pierce for MLE
Re-sign Odom for minimum
That's a lot of moves, but actually very doable depending on Dallas. Utah getting two picks is a bit steep, one is more reasonable. You get 2-3 draft picks this year to fill up "solid role player/starter" spots.
13 - Dennis Schroeder (backup PG)
14 - Sergej Karasev (SF) - leave to develop?
21 - Gorgui Dieng (C)
Chris Paul / Malik Wayns / Dennis Schroeder
Trevor Ariza / Jamal Crawford / Willie Green
Paul Pierce / Grant Hill
Blake Griffin / Lamar Odom
Kevin Garnett / Gorgui Dieng
Rest of bench: Aminu?, Free Agent big?
Just some options, draft picks can vary

I think its going to be hard for us to buy the 13th pick, because teams that have cap room will be able to absorb additional salary from Dallas as part of the trade. We could try to get Utah to absorb Butler as part of the trade, this wokld give us a 8 million dollar trade exception. Dallas is desperately trying to cut salaries, so we would then be able to absorb Vince Carter's 3.6 million as part of the deal, or we could include Hill in the Utah trade and absorb Marion's 9.6 million.

Vince would actually be a good addition as a bench scorer and floor spacer despite his age. Also been doing well defensively as a Mav
