Sounds like it is done:

One of the Phoenix Suns' popular former players – Jeff Hornacek – has been offered the franchise's head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Suns and Hornacek will work the weekend to finalize contract parameters on an agreement, sources said. Hornacek is eager to be the Suns' next head coach. The Suns and Hornacek have already started work on assembling an assistant coaching staff.
An assistant coach with the Utah Jazz, Hornacek met with new Suns general manager Ryan McDonough, president Lon Babby and owner Robert Sarver the past week in Phoenix.
Hornacek, 50, played the first six seasons of his 14-year NBA career with the Suns and remains a popular figure in the community. He keeps his offseason home in the Phoenix area.
For the Suns, Hornacek would fit the profile of a coach who could grow with the franchise's plan to rebuild through young players and the draft. Phoenix has six first-round picks available over the next three years, and player development will be a top priority.
The Suns met with Houston Rockets assistant J.B. Bickerstaff on Friday and have received permission to interview Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Steve Clifford. Clifford remains a strong candidate for head-coaching openings with the Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats. The Suns former interim coach, Lindsey Hunter, also interviewed for the job.
Hornacek also interviewed for the Bobcats' coaching opening this week.

Good for Horny, wonder who the Jazz will bring in to replace him. Don't think this has much affect on the team though.

Re: Horny going to Phoenix?
it will really suck when he'll coach hi a$$ off in phoenix and show he's a very promising coach in this league, while we stick with corbin, lamenting that we had a good coach right under our nose. hypothetical scenario, of course.

It was only a matter of time until Horny landed a head coaching position once he decided it was time to pursue coaching full time. Best of luck to him, he'll do very well and will be a very popular choice in Phoenix.
The Jazz made a major mistake not hiring him over Corbin.

This will give Corbin another opportunity. He brought in a big man coach who wasn't a big man. Now he can bring a shooting coach who can't shoot.

Hornacek has not even coached a game yet and he's already better than Corbin and most of the coaches in the league!
Really?
I like Hornacek. I wish he would stay with the Jazz, but I have no idea and neither does anyone else on any sports blog board whether Hornacek will make a good head coach. Everyone has a fifty fiffty chance of being right. Yes, he will be a good coach or no he won't. If someone guesses right it doesn't mean they had real perceptive incite. It means they called heads and it came up heads.
His record as a head coach will depend 90% on the players he gets and 10% on his coaching ability. That's the facts and it's simple.

i have no complaints about the player developments personnel. also, kanter worked out with kiki vandeweghe who wasn't really a bigman, and showed results and progress. don't judge player development coaches based on their size, base your opinion according to how well they teach and how much progress the players who work with them show.

you are absolutely right that we don't know how hornacek will do as a coach. it is just guesswork at this point. i think this is more about what we know we have with corbin.

Re: Horny going to Phoenix?
Don't expect Hornacek to have an awesome record next year, in spite of how well he coaches. Phoenix was dead last in the Western Conference with a record of 25-57 and is in a full rebuild with no returning player that is really a "star".

I don't see it quite that simplistically. I think reasonably educated fans can make reasonably intellegent educated guesses. He's seemingly got all the tools. I don't think any of us are psychic, but were not stupid either. I'd go 70-30.

Doesn't really matter. Corbin will be gone after next year anyway. No way he survives stealth tank mode.

Lol, this is the Utah jazz. History shows Corbin can coach here for over 20 years with 2 of the greatest players of all time on the roster without winning a championship and still have a job. Being slightly above mediocre is fine here.

I agree with most of your point, but I think Corbin is below mediocre.

that's even more infuriating. if he'll be gone after next season, he might as well go now. why draw this out if it is clear he's not the right guy and have no future with the team as a head coach long term? everyone loses this way.

If the Jazz decide to go young with the C4, Corbin isn't getting fired. It's more likely he is still coaching the Jazz 5 years from now.

I'm very interested to see if Corbin gets an extension before the season starts. I'm not sure why he would get one other than it's been forever since the Jazz had a lame duck coach.
I certainly don't see any reason to give him an extension based on merit.
