Who is this year's next Jan Vesely?

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Sun May 26, 2013 5:58 pm

The Wiz board strongly voted a couple of years ago to take, well, anyone but Jan Vesely, but did the Wiz "brain trust" listen? No, and we've been saying "I told you so" ever since. Here's the opportunity for them to accept the fact that we on RealGM, as fanatic fans (is that redundant?) may actually know better and should be listened to! (cough *Karl Malone* cough -- never to forget, never to forgive).

Who do you positively, definitely, absolutely, want EG and the Wiz NOT to waste the #3 pick on this year?

Zeller. Guy will be a major major bust.

Len as well, he'll be serviceable but not worth a top 10 pick.

Rudy Gobert maybe?

I think that guy has to be somewhat of an unknown who's upside is being sold. The players on the list are genuine talents. All are better prospects than Vesely was. It's only that the team is now picking at 3 and not 8 that would make taking certain players on the list seem really questionable; would still be getting a better prospect and legitimate roster upgrade than Vesely.

Vesely was a legitimate wasted pick. I don't think you would be wasting a pick if selecting any of the listed players, only concern would be passing on a more complete or dynamic prospect for a good one.

Bennett- when is the last time a tweener drafted in the lottery wasn't a bust?

Depends on draft stock. If Zeller is taken top 5, I'd say he's bust worthy, but the same applies to Len. Only reason I could see Len busting though is health concerns. He has all the physical tools to dominate, will be interesting to see if he cerebrally develops.

I'd say McLemore, especially if he goes top 2.

I'd say Len has the highest bust potential, mostly for his ankles. 7 footers with ankle injuries does not portend long, successful careers.

I agree that picking 3rd, the selection is better than at 8. Not only that, this is a stronger draft class than Vesely's year which was the weakest I can remember since the draft was instituted. However, "bust" is a relative term; picking 3rd, you should expect an all-star level player; if you get a guy who is a marginal rotation/reserve level talent, he's a bust. Think Kwame, Darko, Dennis Hobson . . . .

His brother, John Vesely. EG's next pick at #3.

Bennett.... Really hope they don't get cute and starting seriously considering him.

Just take Porter and call it a day.

Noel
- Busted ACL (before he even plays a summer game)
- Frightfully thin (206 lbs?!?!)
- Tartar raw offensive game (barely cracked 10 ppg)

This guy is being set up for a KFB-Olowokandi-Bargnani-sized disaster. If somehow he dropped to us at #3, that would be just more of a sign that other teams also don't think he's a good risk.

You should allow for more than one pick because there are 3 names on there and it would be unfair to pick. Actually most the names on there I wouldn't take at #3.

And how do you pick between Noel, Bennett and Shabbazz. That's a tough one.

The Ves poll was different. That was who not to draft at #6 which gave a little more wiggle room.

Thing is, Noel could be considered a tweaner. He will have to play PF and that means you need to have a stud next to him at center that can do everything he can't. Orlando might be able to absorb him since they have Nikola, who we should already have which would make this year a lot easier.

He could end up being a BWM style Birdman. Or Ves 2.0

That's his bust potential.

Strong cases can be made for Bennett and Shabbazz as well but at least they can shoot and score. Its a tough call.

A Noel failure would be the biggest bust.

As a starter, Burke has the least bust potential.

Noel sucks. His haircut is laughable too.

Wes shows his age once again. Noel's haircut is 90% of his appeal. The other 10% is his Kate Moss legs.

Stealing from and ripping off the late 1980s and early 1990s is now considered appealing?

As much as you seem to dwell in the past I would think Noel's haircut would appeal to you.
