theBigLip early mock

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Wed May 29, 2013 1:47 am

Ok, this will change as workouts/rumors/trades happen, but just trying to figure out who will be available to us. So here it goes...

1. Cleveland - Noel; they could use Porter or McLemore, but just don't see them passing on Noel
2. Orlando - need a PG, don't bite on Burke, take McLemore
3. Washington - Porter, probably only accurate pick
4. Charlotte - never know wtf they will do, but Bennett fills a need, don't need PG. Can't believe Oladipo has slipped
5. Phoenix - Oladipo has to go now.
6. New Orleans - could be Len, but Burke will go here
7. Sacramento - doesn't need Len, so MCW, Zeller, McCollum? Curry envy makes them take McCollum

Wow, I could do this 10 times and come up with 10 different results. But in this scenario, we are looking at the following guys available:

Len
MCW
Zeller
KCP
Shamu

Len or MCW could be drafted instead of Burke or McCollum. Hopefully Len since we really don't need him. I'll strike him from the list and add Burke and McCollum as possibilities. Here is my list of likely draftees, prioritized by who I'd take:

McCollum
Burke
KCP
MCW
Shamu
Zeller

Just curious as I've seen this posted a lot, but why do so many ppl think NO will take Burke when they already have Vasquez?

My mock right now would be

1. Noel
2. Mclemore
3. Porter
4. Oladipo
5. Bennett
6. Len
7. Burke or Shabazz

Then we get whichever the Kings don't take at 8. If that's how it plays out, I'll be happy with either of those two guys.

I believe the thinking behind NOP taking Burke is that Vasquez isn't Mr Right... he's Mr Right Now

They have Davis, Lopez and Anderson up front - highly unlikely to take a big man

IF you believe they will trade Eric Gordon then you have to say they need a SF, SG or a PG long term to team with the bigs.

At #6 Olapido, Porter and McLemore are likely gone. Bennett may or may not be able to play SF... that leaves Burke as the logical option.

Just read that NO would like to pair up Burke/Vasquez in the backcourt, which I guess means that the book on EG is almost closing.

oh, that changes things then.

I'm a little concerned SAC could take Shabazz, leaving us with Len or Zeller to pick from. :-?

Shabazz and Cousins on the same team should get it's own reality show.

The reality show or Shamu being drafted in the top 10? No way he goes at 7 or 8.

Sources say the Pelicans have interest in Burke? I don't buy it. Sounds like GM code for "Hey come trade up for Burke... and while you are here, take EG's contract off our hands."

Rivers sux. I don't think NO trades for anyone - if they want a PG, Burke, McCollum or MCW will be available to them for sure. All are better than what they have.

i forgot the green font. I wonder if rivers is going to be better next year though, he had some games where he played well. probably at best a 6th man

Burke/Vasquez doesn't sound very good, particularly defensively.

If we get one of KCP/Shabazz/MCW/Burke I will be happy. KCP is my favorite wing outside of Mac/Dipo, Shabazz has upside and I believe he can play the 2. And as you might have already known, I might be the biggest Burke fan on this sub-board.

My bad, I should no better than to think anyone seriously likes Rivers :-) You're right, 6th man at best.

Vasquez has his flaws, but he was 3rd in the NBA in assists last year behind only Rondo and CP3. I guess they could draft a PG, but I still think they are fishing for a trade.

My Mock to 8:

1) Cleveland - Noel, other option could be Porter who would be a better fit.
2) Orlando - McLemore, need for a wing scorer. Noel would be here if passed at one.
3) Washington - Porter, Perfect fit. Probably go Noel or Bennett in that order if Porter is gone.
4) Charlotte - Oladipo - Perfect fit again. Assuming Noel, McLemore, and Porter are gone. They take one of the big three if Bennett/Oladipo go in top 3.
5) Phoenix - Bennett - Need help at the 3/4 spot. Too much invested in PG to go Burke. Would select Oladipo or Porter if they slid.
6) New Orleans - Burke - Perfect fit again. I don't see them taking anyone else but him unless top 3 slides. If Burke goes higher, I could see them taking McCollum for PG spot.
7) Sacramento - McCollum - Huge need at PG spot. Could play PG and SG while providing back court scoring which is needed. Burke was top choice. Would take Bennett, Burke or Oladipo if any slide.
8) Detroit - Who you got?

Legit choices:
Muhammed, Caldwell-Pope, Carter-Williams, Cody Zeller, Len.

Probably Choice:
Muhammed because all other players that Joe D want are gone. Takes high risk/reward like he did last year with Drummond. Fills huge need for wing scoring.

I agree with BigLip, there are so many different possibilities, I could see the draft going down like this

1. Noel
2. Mclemore
3. Porter
4. Zeller
5. Oladipo
6. Len
7. Benett
8. Burke, MCW, KCP or Shabazz.

OK, now trying version 2.0, but with Len and Zeller rising (and I think Noel/McLemore are Tier 1 by themselves:

1. Cleveland - Noel - might trade down, but whoever takes #1 pick will pick Noel
2. Orlando - McLemore - need a PG (Burke?), but can't pass on McLemore. Maybe another trade down?

3. Washington - Porter seems like a perfect fit (local, need SF), Bennett would work too.
4. Charlotte - Bennett BPA, and they already got a PG, SF, but maybe Oladipo, Zeller or Len
5. Phoenix - Zeller Can't see Dipo slipping any further, but maybe? Suns need all except SF
6. New Orleans - Oladipo Need PG, SG, SF, could be McCollum or Burke as well, probably trade Gordon
7. Sacramento - Burke or McCollum as PG?

I REALLY want someone to take Len, would have to be Charlotte or Phoenix, and would drop someone nice to us. But didn't happen in 2.0 :-( List of available draftees, prioritized by who I'd take (much different):
McCollum
Len - pick him and trade down?

MCW

I can't see Zeller rising. I could see Len jump up to 6 though if a big will jump up above us to be taken. Len's offensive game would play well next to Anthony Davis I think.
