It's obvious that as soon as he gets in trouble he can't bear down and get out of it. He's essentially failing before he starts. Of course, Ricky always had trouble with walks, but you could see him battle. Ricky finally turned the corner when he learned to bear down and focus better.

Even when Ricky was at his height, he was still a guy who needed to work both sides of the plate, pitch inside effectively and get some luck with ground balls because he wasn't a guy with elite stuff. Once teams figured out how to take Ricky the other way and lay off his slider and hit his change up, he was basically serving up batting practice.

I guess they need to try and re-build his mechanics completely. The way he throws across his body was always a recipe for an inconsistent release point.

It's still possible something will click for him, but he needs to stop putting so much pressure on himself and shut everything else out except for the process--results or not.

In addition, ricky seems like the last guy who would ask for help...just from his interviews you get the sense (although I have no idea) that he doesn't take personal responsibility well or appreciate nuance(ie. it's all his fault or not his fault). That seems like an individual who would be a prime candidate for therapy. This would help him solve problems on his own, and perhaps let him work through his issues on the mound at the same time.

And based on his interviews he seems pretty short-sighted about how long he'll take to get back to the bigs. The early promotion didn't help things. If this hasn't been a sobering awakening though, I don't know what will be.

So, if it is a confidence issue, all Ricky has to do is believe in himself, and he can't even do that?

When he was sent down, the word was that Ricky didn't believe that there was anything wrong...hitters were just squaring him up, he was missing location, it'd work itself out. So it might be a confidence issue, but not that kind.

I think the best thing for the Jays and Rickey, is to give Rickey a new change of scenery. i.e. get him traded, get an asset if you can.

I'm not saying the Jays should give up on him, but give him a change of scenery in terms of changing teams.

I don't think you can trade him. Have you seen his contract?

he may be untradable, but if AA can trade Vernon, AA can trade Romero.

Couple of former Jays bullpen scrap heat doing decent for other MLB teams

Danny Farquhar has a 43% K rate, throws mid 90s heat now
Robert Coello 0.87 ERA 18Ks in 10.1IP

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I always really liked Farquhar, who used to throw between 92-97 depending on the arm angle (he used to throw both overhand and three-quarters, often within the same at-bat), but he could never harness his control. He was always going to be good if he could find it, and it appears that he has; such is life with relievers.

Couple thought s on a few of the comments on the last page
If AA could trade Romereo for any thing of value but i would be happy just to move him and his big contract. Of course i would rather have him come back and pitch the way he did a few years ago but i am sure the Jays could use his 7 mill a year to entice another 2-3 arm
If you havent go back and watch that video Fairveiw for life posted showning that pitch that Coello is throwing it is wicked and show the zero spin on the ball very clear..wicked

Whatever Ricky has is catching.

Stroman only made it through 1.0 innings and got clubbed. I mean yikes! seven hits, eight runs, seven earned, one walk and two Ks. He gave up two homers to the same guy, one Xander Boegarts of Aruba, who only had like two homers before today.

Norris had another good outing. Gave up one earned run (HR to 2nd batter of the game) over 4 while striking out 6. 4 hits (2 in the first) and 3 walks (2 in the first).

Boegarts is one of the top prospects in all of baseball, regardless of how few homers he had prior to tonight

Stroman had a terrible outing but such is life considering the somewhat aggressive assignment and lack of innings this season

I wouldn't be too concerned

The Rays have suspended Josh Sale indefinitely for acting like a giant prick in a strip club. I do recall people being upset the Jays passed on this guy. Based on the picture, I'd rather not cheer for this guy...
