Bull for example could offer something like a 2d rounder for VC+#13 (we have a traded player exception), which clears ab $4-5M for Dallas, but obviously you're giving something value there. Alternatively, could swap Dallas 2013 #1 for Bulls 2014 #1 in a similar deal, so you'd get a pick in a stronger draft (but likely a lower pick).
Not trolling, just curious what kind of value you think you'll be able to get back in exchange for the cap space.
Cuban has to know the chances are next to nothing to get CP3 and/or D12 so he won't just give players away for the cap space to chase that pipe dream. Bull's 2nd rounder for the pick and VC is not even close to flying.
After the big FAs are gone Cuban will probably use a strategy similar as last season and Marion and VC are perfect for that strategy. Marion and Carter are still good players with expiring contracts after next season and that will be when the Mavs can make some bold moves for star players.
So to answer your question, cap space is extremely valuable this offseason if there is reason to believe one or both (D12/CP3) would sign but with that being a very slim possibility Mavs will most likely keep Marion/Carter and take advantage of players being amnestied or sign vets to one year deals again.
