Karl Malone about time!
"Karl Malone just announced on Jazz radio that he will be helping to coach Utah's big men in a part-time capacity."
Hopefully it will help our guys with their game next year, both offensive and defensively also passing.
What are your thoughts?

I wish he was becoming the new assistant coach. But this will do. Glad he is back in the fold.

He's always good for entertainment if not anything else. I give it til December before his mouth gets his foot stuck in it.

First things first, malone will have to teach them to unlearn what they learned from fat al. i garauntee that if malone works as hard at coaching as he did at being a player he will be a good coach.

The best thing is Karl's big mouth. He may actually call out the incompetence of our coach.

I see this as another indication the team has no intention of bringing back Big Al.

In the interview Karl made it clear that he respects Corbin, addresses him as coach even though they played together, and believes that everyone in the organization should stay in their lane and drive towards the common goal. If there was conflict the situation would simply end with a handshake and they would part ways.

I thought it was interesting that Karl mentioned the hypothetical scenario of Corbin losing his job. While I think the concern of Karl upstaging Corbin occurred to many people, it seemed a bit awkward for Karl to mention it. But hey, it's Karl, awkward sound bites come with the territory.

Re: Karl Malone about time!
I love the Mailman. I absolutely love him. Of course his mouth is going to run and of course he's going to put the attention on himself. That alleviates some of the pressure from Ty Corbin. Malone can take whatever comes his way and he knows it. He just doesn't give a hoot.
I like this hire for several reasons beyond the entertainment value:
(1) Pick and roll. It is time. I don't know if we have seen a real pick and roll from the Utah Jazz since Boozer left. Karl knows how to run the PnR from the foul line, not the three point line like these youngsters try to do it. Karl will straighten them out and have them catching the ball in scoring position like he used to do. That alone will be the best advice Favors ever receives as an offensive player.
(2) Run the floor. NOBODY who has ever played the game as a big man has ever run the floor like Karl Malone. The Jazz big men have not been running the floor like they should for many years now. It's go time!
(3) Competitive spirit in the weight room. If you think Kanter likes his body now, wait until he and Karl go at the iron together. Here comes the BOOM!
(4) Credibility and buy in. Everybody who ever joins the Jazz during Malone's coaching tenure will know that they are a lesser player than he was. They have to listen to Malone's advice or they are a punk.

I think I generally like this move for the jazz, especially as a part time venture. My worries are that the truly great players don't often make great coaches because of their greatness. They don't understand why players can't do what came naturally to themselves. And it frustrates them. Further worries are because it's Karl. And we all know you can't reign him in. While I am not a fan of Corbin, internal undermining wont serve anyone. Like mark Jackson splitting the locker room trying to convince younger players he should start over Stockton. Causing turmoil isn't the right way to do things. Corbin is hanging himself just fine.

I couldn't agree more with this. It'll help keep Karl out of the spotlight while also letting him figure out if this is something he really wants to do or if it's just another one of his crazy dream vocations.

I give it three months before he gets Hayward's girlfriend pregnant. Who's got the under? Who's got the over? I'm taking all bets.

Re: Karl Malone about time!
Well it's a role I don't think he can't do really bad in. Malone had all the tools, could take it to the hole powerfully, mid range shot, fadeaway, good defender, drew contact and got to the line like the best of them, great passer and rebounder, and so on. I remember Malone was intense, and would yell at Ostertag for his shortcommings, so you know he's not going to be easy on these kids. Seems like the right time now since Al Jefferson is on the way out and these kids need to take on a full time role.
