I could see Ferry/Bud going after CP3 simply because he's more of the type of player they likely would want on this team. Josh is gone. DH is not on their radar because he's just not a smart ball player. Horford is ideal, and perhaps Lou, Harris, and Korver. They are definitely going to want to add a good C that can compliment Al. There are a couple guys in this draft that seem like possibilities, but they may try a SnT with LAL sending Josh over for Gasol. Gasol would be a good compliment to Horford and his contract will come off the books next season to help us maintain flexibility.
At the same time, I can see Ferry/Bud deciding to tank this season and get as good a pick in the next draft as possible. I just think they have some really good pieces already in place and don't necessarily have to tank to get it rebuilt they way they want it. When you only have 3 players officially on the roster, one is already a great fit and the other two you already hand-picked, you've got a jump on rebuilding.
Here are a few guys I could see them going after who would fit in and help build this thing right:
Corey Brewer - Solid wing defender
Ronnie Brewer - The other Brewer, a great defender who has handles and can cut to the basket.
Jarrett Jack - Super back-up (can start in a pinch) PG/SG who can do just about everything decent.
Chris Paul - Um, no explanation required
Andrew Bynam - If he can stay healthy, can you think of a better option at C?
Al Jefferson - My 2nd fav for combining forces with Al.
I'd also like to see them bring back Zaza. I think he's about as good a backup C as you can have in this league.
Of course Howard is on the radar. Ferry tried to trade Horford for Howard last year, even without an extension.
You say that, but I just don't see DH being the type of guy you want if you're following the San Antonio model. It's either Ferry will build the team from the ground up they way he wants, or he's going to go the Miami route. I just don't see building our own superstar squad as that feasible. You can't fault him for trying, but I don't see there being much of a chance that will happen. Personally, I think DH is a great talent, but I think his attitude (much like Smoove) has a chance to derail things more than providing the focus needed to win consistently.

Agreed.
Guys, what do we think happens with Teague? He's already expressed excitement with having Bud as Coach.
Can JT0 become the next Tony Parker, or are we drafting Dennis Schroeder from Germany with one of our picks?
Or trading up to draft Burke/McCollum?
PS A combo of Gasol and Horford gives us the best froncourt in the league. We immediately become a top Eastern Conf team while maintaining our flexibility. It'd be a masterstroke if Ferry actually pulls it off.

I believe if we were able to sign Teague to a reasonable contract (which seems likely) and picked up Gasol for Josh, that would go a long way towards both rebuilding and staying respectable. We still desperately need wing players, but that could be resolved fairly well with the draft and a FA like Ronnie Brewer.
I like Teague a lot, but I'd rather have CP3 if possible. If they would rather have Teague, they are going to have the extra money to have the marquee player at another position.
The question still remains: will they go get superstars or ride the fence of mediocrity by simple going with a roster full of good players?

After quibbling about the choice, the realization of who we have has just hit me. We finally have a coach recognized (nay, praised) for _player development_.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Guys, let's get real here: LAL won't accept being capped by the apron so they cannot accept a SNT player. We'd have to use pure cap space to take on Gasol, and assuming that LAL even wants to do that, it'd mean renouncing either Smoove and 1 of Zaza, Korver, or Teague or renouncing all 3 of Zaza, Korver, and Teague (I could not care less about the rest of the FAs if it means getting better, but anyone with a hold > the minimum would be gone too). At this point, Gasol is a Plan Z scenario unless LAL decides to amnesty him.

I'm glad to have a Coach capable of player development, but during the season the HC has so many other responsibilities/duties...it makes me wonder if he'll still have the same effect on developing the young guns.
Player development normally falls to one of the assistants.
I still like the hire, but I just wonder if he'll still have the same impact with younger players.
Can this guy turn Teague into even half the player Tony Parker is?
