My only issue with Klopp is that he, like Wenger, seems to have issues at keeping his top players from leaving for bigger paychecks with other clubs. Otherwise, I think he would be the perfect successor.

Klopp had no choice, he can't do much in a sport filled with players that have ego's and is driven by dollar signs. Same with wenger , not much both men could do , they just keep getting stabbed in the back.

Should be announcing Crowley, and Sanogo this week. Julio Selva next week apparently. Not the big signings yet, but all are top level young talent. Especially needed since we stripped all the deadwood for our youth system.

The German reporter on the Sunday Supplement was suggesting that Dortmund are using the majority of their recently boosted income to improve their wage structure considerably. If that's true, then they're playing this much better than Arsenal have.

Yeah, it's really the dumbest thing they've done. Unbelievably naive to think it's something the top players wouldn't take issue with. Well they seem to be fixing it in now, so better late than never, I guess. Just dumb over all

Hopefully Dortmund can stick around at the top level, they'll probably always be below Munich because of the resources, but if they're smart they can remain competitive.

Serge Gnabry's best 12 goals of the year. Some really nice ones, wonder if he's going on loan next year or maybe some run in the first team

That's not quite true. Dortmund have financially been unable to pay the money, nor do they have the historic prestige to keep players from joining the Real Madrids, the Manchester Uniteds and the Bayerns of the world, Arsenal does but have handicapped themselves with their moronic pay everybody about the same philosophy that sees arsenal spending absurd sums of money to crap players your fans can just pray never see the field.

That's true , no arguments here. We can afford really good wages for players but nothing absolutely ridiculous.

I really do not know what was wrong with what Arsenal did.

They have always offered very good salaries to the top players (Cesc, Offered it to Van Persie and Henry), the difference is we cannot compete with paying people 200k a week or 250k a week. Because if we did and it didnt work out, we would be crippled. Lets say he got injured (which his record suggests), imagine that in our books.
And dont forget, for every Van Persie that we regret leaving (which I also think we should have kept) there is the Nasri and Adebayor that we let go, imagine having them on 150K plus a week.
One thing we dont have is top earners not doing anything as they dont offer top wages to anybody (probably because we cant)

Now if you are complaining about rewarding younger players they pay them early so they can lock them long term, who would have thought the likes of denilson, diaby, djorou and bendtner (If you want me to list what they have done, I will) will not be used this much going forward (at one point or another we thought they had talent). It just didnt work out. I mean we arent the only one who has these, look at all the teams and they have them.

Lets look at the great UTD they have
-Bebe
-Anderson
-Fabio
-Darren Fletcher
-Ashley young is supposedly on around 100k a week
-Chris Smalling

You also have to take into account that the growth in wages skyrocketed more than anybody would realise the last few years.

another problem is, it is highlighted more in Arsenal because of two reasons
1. We are not winning
2. Making mistakes on a few deals does affect us. We are not Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City. One is the biggest club in the world and the other two have sugar daddies.

Maybe i have arsenal tinted glasses, but outside of Park I really do not see who we offered wages that did not make sense at the time. Looking back its easy to point out..but hey hindsight is 20/20

I can only hope this means they will make a serious effort to clean house with the first team. Arshavin and Squillaci are definitely gone already. Fabianski is out of contract. I've seen conflicting reports about Denilson. Hopefully we can sell the rest of the garbage...no more of this loan crap.

I agree with most of what you said, and I don't think it's the reason we haven't won anything. That being said, it's a dumb policy, and it certainly doesn't help.

Some of this is a hindsight is 20/20 thing, and I definitely agree on Diaby, Denilson, Djourou, and even Arshavin. All were reasonable at the time they signed their deals.

Park, Bendtner, Santos, Gervinho, Fabianski, are all substantially overpaid, and have never been worth the kind of money they're being paid.

I also agree this isn't what has lost us our best players. We did offer RvP 150k a week, but UTD offered far more. We offered Cesc the same, he took less to go to Barca. We offered Nasri a fair deal at 100k, City doubled it. Where this has hurt us, I think, is player recruitment.

Don't know why Arsenal and Dortmund are even being compared. Situations aren't the same, and the RvP and Gotze transfers aren't really similar.

RvP is 30 yrs old, and left because we haven't won anything for years. Gotze is 20, been there since he was a kid, has won back-to-back BL titles, and seen Dortmund compete in the CL finals this year. That would be like Arsenal winning the league twice (have to use your imagination), making the CL finals, and then selling Jack Wilshere, and maybe Theo Walcott, to Man United.

Arsenal Football Club will release 10 young professionals at the end of their contracts on June 30.
Conor Henderson, Jernade Meade, Sanchez Watt, James Shea, Reice Charles-Cook, Sead Hajrovic, Philip Roberts, Nigel Neita, Samir Bihmoutine and Josh Rees will all be free to join other clubs from July 1.
Henderson, Meade and Watt all made first-team appearances for Arsenal.
Henderson, 21, made his one senior outing in an FA Cup replay against Leyton Orient in 2010/11. He has also represented the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level.
Meade, a regular in the Arsenal reserve and under-21 sides for the past two seasons, made two appearances for the first team last term. After helping the Gunners to a 7-5 League Cup victory over Reading in October, the 20-year-old full back marked his full debut with an assured display at Olympiacos in December.

Fair enough, we can agree to disagree on the policy. For me it makes sense. I mean when you give a player a contract it should be based on there future performance right? we gambled and we failed.
From that list I can agree with Park, Santos and maybe fabianski (but my understanding is they are round 30 - 40k a week, unfortunately that is what players get these days).
Bendtner was like 22 years old and scored 15 goals when he signed 50k a week. I mean that is the going rate give or take. he was also a highly rated youngster coming up.
Gervinho scored like 20 goals and 10 assists the year before he moved. Ofcourse he deserved it. He flopped, what can you do. Its not like we offered him a new contract.

I think what really hurt us was the timing of the stadium (but it had to be done as we dont have any sugar daddies). The crisis started, sugar daddies came in and wages sky rocketed.

I mean before why we were able to win was due to the fact that there was only one team who was by far and away richer than us. now there is 3. so Arsene has to climb 3 mountains and as we are talking about now, we know money plays a role.

I hope with the new deals we actually start spending more. If we dont, then I will be disappointed (im not expecting coempeting with the sugar daddies, but atleast with the likes of juve and bayern level). We have the stadium out of the way, reasonable debt so there really is no excuse. I give them this summer or next to break the £20million barrier :). I would also like to see how Tottenham will be able to get maneuver a new stadium with trying to compete with getting into the top 4. That will be interesting.

Park and Fabianksi are both on 50k(!) a week, and Santos 60k (lol!) a week, as far as I know.

I'm only against the policy that everyone should make close to the same. I do understand that sometimes you pay for potential, and have no problem with that. I just don't think Bentdner had much. I know some people had high hopes for him, but I never liked him. Possibly had something to do with this haircut:

Image

I am fine with Diaby's contract, I mean it sucks now, but at the time he was playing fantastic, had tons of potential, but then he met Dan Smith, and then Paul Robinson. He looked like was going to be a world-beater, but now he's crocked, it happens. Denilsons, and Djourous, too.

I never liked Gervinho, either. I always put him dead last out of that Lille team of players I'd take (Hazard, Cabaye, Madvuba, Rami, Debuchy, Sow). He had a good season at Lille, but I doubt we were fending off tons of top teams for him. Either a cheaper contract, or a shorter term. If he plays well, new contract. Happens all the time. But, we over-committed to a player with below average technical ability. A winger/striker who can't pass or shoot.

I'm generally pro-Wenger, he doesn't get nearly enough credit for what he's done. I know most people couldn't give a toss about our stadium, but it's something the club needed to compete long-term. I don't think many other managers could have done what he has. But, the whole wage structure has been a problem. They look to be rectifying it now, so we'll have to wait and see.

I'm really interested to see what Tottenham are going to do. They need to sort it out.

Does Emirates stadium have room left to add seats?

A bigger stadium would've certainly been more expensive but even with the many teams from London Arsenal should be able to fill (much) more than 60.000 seats.

10.000 seems like a good number...although I think filling 80-85.000 seats should be no problem if the team is only semi competitive.

Kinda similar to the Allianz Arena. Originally, it was 66.000, now it's 71.000 seats but they could probably easily fill 90.000 seats even in a game against a relegation side.

yeah they should increase seating , to increase matchday revenues and give the stadium a better atmosphere , its doesn't seem lively on TV.

Man allianz is beautiful I went there in the summer of 2011 with my family , stepped into the home lockeroom and the facility is amazing

If you guys haven't read these blogs I'd recommend them , they have me excited. The last ten years or so have been about bringing the arsenal brand up into the top 8 clubs around the world , increasing our revenues and stepping up financially. These brand new commercial deals coming in 2014 are the planting of the flag , it's now time for take off boys!
