I'm not concerned about weight for Gobert yet. Someone mentioned Tyson Chandler in this thread, which reminded me how skinny Chandler was in his early years. An NBA training staff would bulk him up.

I like Brooklyn as a destination for him if they don't think they can re-sign Blatche.

He needs to go to a team with a good coaching staff in order to succeed. He has potential but he needs player development. Not every team can provide that.

You described Roy Hibbert at Gobert's age.

When Roy Hibbert was Gobert's age he would most likely be a bust. The way Hibbert transformed his body and developed an insane work ethic out of thin air is not something I would assume to be likely to any other player.

I'd take Gobert at 22 overall for Brooklyn but it would be to play limited backup center minutes because Blatche looks like he is being penciled in as the Brooklyn starting PF next season. Leave Gobert to develop because it will take him at least a full year and probably more, to fill out and add the muscle needed to not get thrown around in the paint by the NBA bigs.

He's a really exciting project though with insane tools to work with and develop his game. In a perfect world for Brooklyn, I'd select Gobert 22nd overall and look to get back into the late 1st with the $3m cash and someone like Brooks to select Nogueira and stash him overseas for a few years.

Seems like if he reaches his peak, with his ability to play in the pick and roll, and block shots, he could have a Marcin Gortat like influence on the game.

As a quick follow up to some comments in this thread.
no step vert jump + Standing reach
Gobert = 9'7" + 2'1" = 11'8"
Chandler = 9'2" + 2'7" = 11'9"
He's not a Chandler level athlete, but he occupies almost as much vertical real estate due to crazy length. You will probably see a similar effect going laterally with that unreal wingspan...
He does have physical advantages on Chandler (at least on draft night)
Gobert: 238 lbs Chandler: 224 lbs
Gobert: 7 bench press reps Chandler : 2 bench reps
and according todraftexpress at the Chicago combine:

No one can score on Rudy Gobert inside the paint. Block deflections steals. Changing everything around the rim.
From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz2V1bytna3

He apparently has the defensive instincts. I think he might be a pretty good gamble as a C, and in this draft, I suspect I'd be pretty happy any time after 10th, and maybe after 4th if he worked out and interviewed well for my team... A Tyson Chandler is not a bad thing to have on your team.

Thanks for the info. He has the defensive insticts. He can be a bigger Larry Sanders type. He needs to be on a team that teaches him the right defensive fundamentals, though.

He seems to have the same height/weight/length as young Kareem...
