Lets get Tom Robinson!

Post#1 » by ImHeisenberg » Thu May 30, 2013 10:29 pm

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--houst ... 15027.html

Woj is reporting that the Rockets want to salary dump T-Rob. We could take him, and probably ask for the second round pick that Sacramento gave them as well.

Reasons- Robinson could be a lot better than he showed. Sacramento was a terrible situation, and Houston wanted their power forwards to shoot the three, not a fit for him. He could be a fantastic energy guy off the bench. Low risk, big upside.

Also, the comedy of having him and Jerebko on the same team!

I was thinking he could be a nice 3rd big off the bench. He's not a starter at this stage of his career, but he has the size and physicalility we want.

That's craziness.

At first I was shocked to see a top 5 pick traded for small pieces in his rookie season, and now to see him as a salary dump so soon is really shocking.

I know the Rockets are angling for big fish in free agency, but when there's a guy who goes from being a lottery pick to a salary dump that quickly it really sets off automatic red flags for me.

Honestly though if he's basically free it might be worth taking a flyer if free agency doesn't pan out.

If we can have him for the price of absorbing his salary, there's no reason they shouldn't do that. He's relatively cheap, only 22 years old, and could be a great 3rd big.

My first reaction was hell no but if they're giving him for Free, why not, the only commitment would be 1 year 3.5 million, if it doesn't work we cut him at the end of the season, if it works it could be amazing.

They might want a future second round pick, but nothing for this draft.

How much cap space will the Rockets have?

Is this a Michael Beasley-Miami Heat type situation?

Good use of the space... basically our JMax replacement.

Pretty much. They'll have 10 players under contract (Asik / Lin / Harden / Robinson / White / Jones / Motiejunas / Parsons / Smith / Beverley) and $41,238,187.

If you remove Robinson's contract and add the cap holds (~3x $500,000) they can offer Howard the maximum.

I'd do it if they are pretty much just looking to dump him for cap reasons. Strange how quickly he went from an expected top 3 pick, to top 5 pick, to being traded in his rookie year...and now he's just a contract.

Imagine playing T-rob at the 3 for stretches instead of Jerebko. A T-rob, moose, and drummond frontcourt would be so great to watch. Needless to say I would love picking him up for a reasonable price.

I was never a fan of his coming out of school, but I'd pull the trigger on this. Its funny how he was considered the safest pick in his draft, and now he might be going on his 3rd team within one year on a salary dump.

One thing he has is a strong work ethic... this is a challenge to his manhood.

All for it!

This sounds like exactly the move Joe D cleared the space for, so he could take on deals like this and get talent for free.

He'd be a great 3rd big in our rotation.

Considering we could absorb Robinson simply using the space from buying out Stuckey, and won't even take up any of our current space, Joe would be a fool to not be all over this deal.

i'd gladly take him too, however lets be cautious and keep our "detroit instant superstar magic" on hold. There's a reason he was traded in his rookie season, and now being traded for free.
