Sources: Nuggets Unlikely To Match Masai Ujiri's $15M Offer From Raptors

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 30, 2013 3:26 am

The Toronto Raptors have made Masai Ujiri a five-year, $15 million offer to be their general manager and it is a virtual certainty that the Denver Nuggets will not match, according to league sources.

Ujiri is expected to make a decision sometime this week.

Ujiri was assistant GM for three years with the Raptors before joining the Nuggets in 2010.

Ujiri's contract expires on June 30.

You know an nba team is mismanaged when the soon to be gm is getting paid more than the head coach. I would love for someone to find out who the highest compensated execs are in the nba. I think both pat riley and rc bufford make less than 3 million per a season but both have very small ownership stakes in their respective teams. The nba is a joke when a good coach like mark jackson is getting paid 2 million per season with the warriors while an overated gm like ujiri is gonna make 3 million per season with the raptors.

Thats the raptors organization for you im starting to think TL is some kind of clone of BC overpaiding people who just been under the hype, also mark jackson wouldnt be a good coach if it wasnt for mike malone

I don't get how he is overrated. He got rid of Nene's overpaid contract for an athletic C in McGee, dealt with the Melo drama and got the best out of the deal (imo) with Chandler, Gallinari, Felton (now back in NY), Mozgov, and a 1st round pick in the strong 2014 draft. Last year he got a steal in the draft in Faried, then before this season, he was able to acquire Iguodala in that D12 trade. Results = 3rd in the West and got George Karl his first ever Coach of the Year award. If he can do the same with the Raptors and turn the unwanted Bargnani into players that can contribute, then I believe the Raptors have a chance to make the playoffs next year.

Keep in mind that MLSE has stated they want to build winners for all their four teams. The owners are also far from poor and have an excess of money available if they decide to do so. If Dwayne Casey is not their coach of the future, expect them to also spend a lot to get the new coach they want. This is just step two of many to come, the first was to bring in super exec Tim Leiweke to oversee it all. Expect to see more changes coming.

Also planned/stated on the way is new top European stars for MLS team Toronto FC as well as a new coaching/training structure there as well.

Mark Jackson is in his 2nd year? How much did you expect him to get paid?

Paying a GM 3mil / year with the amount of impact they have on the team is hardly overpaid.

$15 mil for Ujiri? He must still have some compromising pictures of people at MLSE to be able to extract that kind of coin.
