Mike Malone, Hornacek, Budenholzer and Clifford are all going to be first time head coaches in the league. Under your logic they all are bad coaches because they are just now getting a job.

Subtle goal post moving. I like.

Are you just hating to hate. I have not heard you say what you would of wanted instead. If we would of hired a veteran like Scott, Skiles or Gentry you would probably be clamoring about them not being successful and that they are jobless for a reason.

Wipe your tears away so you can read a previous point:

I'm not saying he sucks and I'm not raining on any parade. I want him to work out. I really, really, really do! I'm just saying he's random. Because he is.

Being random does not necessarily equate to being bad. Maybe jdm should lend you a thesaurus?

To me I would want to take a chance on a guy, who is going to give this his all and grow with the team. He may be the next Thibs, Pop, or great coach, whereas Scott or Gentry are unlikely to become a perenial coach of the year contender at this point in their careers.

No faulting that logic.

Make one little comment about a guy not being a household name, hot name, vague, random, or whatever synonym you prefer and BAM, your knowledge is lacking, you rain on parades, and you hate just to hate.

I'm not having a go at you SWedd, @jdm3 had a point that he is pretty well known NBA wise and you seem to get offended or something.

Saying to @JMAC3 to "wipe his tears away" is just ridiculous.

We all have our debates on here but for the most part we keep it civil and everyone is entitled to his own opinion.

Maybe I'll go have to look at my snappy new Clifford Dictionary for the definition of offend, because I don't seem to be the one getting all bent out of shape over
Here's to hoping this vague/random guy works out!

Saying to @JMAC3 to "wipe his tears away" is just ridiculous.

Missing or blatantly ignoring multiple quotes of "I didn't say he sucks" and/or "I hope he works out" is just ridiculous.

We all have our debates on here but for the most part we keep it civil and everyone is entitled to his own opinion.

Then I would greatly appreciate it if you would allow me to posit mine without the questioning my knowledge. You don't think he's a random face in the crowd of coaches? FANTASMAL. I disagree. As would many others, apparently:

... interesting. thanks for digging. it's kind of fun going on an internet scavenger hunt for unknown non-wikipedia'd coaches every may for this franchise.

...lots of déjà vu from last year. replace george karl with van gundy, and replace metro state with a maine high school, and you can just write the press releases from a template.

I'm claiming I know much about him at all, I'm just saying that when someone disagrees with you there is no need to get so indignant and derail a whole thread.

A random hire is Dunlap who was not even a college head coach, Clifford has been coaching with great coaches for over ten years, there is a difference.

The fact he was a finalist with the Bucks and is widely respected by players, coaches and FO's alike is not so vague.

Once bitten twice shy after Dunlap I understand but the guy has a very good CV and is widely respected, people on the messageboards may have been like wtf? but no one in NBA circles was surprised at all.

Does anyone know if Ewing is for sure joining the staff?

It's still a speculation. For sure we'll know more about the incoming assistants by next week.

Oakley, the guy with terrible back pain and had to quit after one year on the job? Yeah, I'm sure he was teaching guys a lot. "Okay Biz, go do some drills for an hour, I have to go lay down."

He went down before Biz was brought in. Damn those security guys.

:-o :-o :noway: :offtopic: :nonono: Hum..Never heard of this guy. Sources say he has strong connection with Van Gundys. Wonder as an assistant if anybody on our team ever played for him as Assistant in NBA. ??
Does he like to run? Who will he select as assistant coachs? What players fit under his coaching style?

How about you not derail the threads and allow the mods to mod?

Everyone keep it on track thanks and keep it about the post rather than the poster.

Just checked his Wikipedia page and Beyer doesn't have a ton of experience at the NBA level so it's hard to have a solid opinion on him. But I did find something interesting.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2924913

When SVG first got hired in Orlando, he brought in Clifford and three other guys:

Beyer, Ewing, and Brendan Malone. We've seen mentions of all three as assistant possibilities and that article makes me think there's a really good possibility we bring those guys in

I would like that. We would have a group that has had some success together and knows each other. Depends on if Malone and his son want to coach together.

I'd be very happy with that staff, though I'd love to find a way to keep Silas.

I would think Malone will go with his son. But if we landed either or both of Ewing and Beyer, I would really love what Clifford would be doing.
