WT: Kings interested in Monta Ellis?

Post#1 » by bibby1023 » Thu May 9, 2013 5:43 pm

Monta Ellis has yet to decide if he will opt out of his $11 million deal for the 13-14 NBA season, but he could have one potential suitor in the Sacramento Kings.

A member of the Kings' prospective ownership group has worked on a background check on Ellis as a potential player to sign if Tyreke Evans departs in the offseason.

Evans will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.

Please no. A team with Ellis as anything more than a 6th man will never, ever be a real contender.

Oh dear god.

We need him on this roster like we need a bullet to the head.

Seriously. This is like the Aaron Brooks signing just on a much bigger scale with no ability to easily resolve it.

Ellis and IT 2.0 in a background would basically just be making us the Sacramento Bucks.

However, I don't see the big deal here. So they've done a background check on him? Probably just covering their bases on all free agents that could be available.

Monta Ellis is my least favorite player in the entire NBA. He literally would bring nothing to our team. I pray to god we don't sign him.

Except with one major, major flaw. The Bucks worked because they basically went all AI 76ers around them, and put in nothing but top notch defensive glue guys. Here you'd only be compounding things further. Although, if it's just a question of replacing Tyreke with him then you're just in the same stinking sinking boat. Maybe a little worse off.

Wasn't Golden State offering Ellis for Evans a few years back? Kings rejected it, now this story says they would go after Ellis if Evans was to leave. I say BS. (And hope the new owners/GM have a little more brain than the current)

To be completely honest, Ellis is one of the last players I would want wearing a Sacramento jersey. Hopefully its just a background check and nothing else.

This is a different management that brought this up. It didn't come from Peitre.

The only way Ellis to Kings is near acceptable is that if he's willing to start from the bench (and regain his Warriors form i.e. 2nd season/3rd season) and we trade Thornton for someone (SF preferably). Then, maaaayybeee but I won't hold my breathe for that to happen.
