Get a more athletic defensive minded PG and Small Forward. Get a coach that actually teaches defense.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Start Blake over Nash. Strap Clark into a chair with Odom game 7 vs Boston tapes on loop all summer because that was picture perfect man and team D by out championship PF. Sign Tony Allen to replace Metta. Institute a zone to cover for when Dwight and Pau play together.

Get better defensive players... Nash, Pau are terrible and Kobe doesn't play D anymore.. Metta is slow now.. so that leaves only Dwight as the only good defensive player.. Not going to win games like that.

1. Get a smarter big than Pau? Seriously, know one playing now? Faster, that's possible, but smarter and more creative, hardly. Look at the Spanish national team to see what Pau can still do if used properly.
2. LO was a unique player. Clark isn't likely to be able to replace his style of play, ever. Neither is Hill.

One can either design strategy for the roster, or get players to fit a scheme. Smart coach would have done the first. With MDA and Lakers' financials as related to CBA, gods help us :(

For people claiming we are too old to play good defense just look at San Antonio. And sure you may point to their one young guy in Leonard but Imo earl Clark is just as good on d. We need a coaching change more than anything else. Mike brown had us as a pretty good defense. We swap Dwight for Bynum and get worse defensively? There's really only one reason.
Warspite:

Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

For me it's the defensive scheme. Look at the Bulls. They have Boozer, Robinson, Belinelli who are individually are not good defenders, but with a good scheme and obviously good team Defense, they are not exposed. Effort, communication and chemistry are also key. Sadly this year injuries affected chemistry since they didn't play continually together so that affected communication. If Dwight resigns, the Lakers will have that achor. They need to add better perimeter defender that could shoot. (That will be hard to do).

And coaching is really a factor here too. I don't trust MDA to implement a great Defensive scheme.

Move Nash for a better defensive point guard. Put Gasol at C, Hill at PF. Get an athletic SF. That's a really good defense.

Watching a ton of Grizzlies and Pacers this season, I'm starting to wonder if twin towers is really the key to our horrible transition defense... Just look at bigs on three teams. I dont know if Howard and Gasol are not actually the most mobile duo of the three. Regardless, Indiana was the best in the league in transition defense, Memphis was 8th. Now look at perimeter. We got probably slowest PG and SF in the NBA and worn down Kobe who has right to be a little worn down consiering minutes and role he plays on defensive end. Compare it with backcourt of Griz and Pacers now. I wonder what our defense would look like with, let's say, Dorrell and Blake in starting 5 and then Nash coming in with smaller line-up (i.e. Clark/DH or Hill/Gasol)

It's tied in with our offense as well. We were 5th in the league in pace while Indiana was 25th and Memphis was dead last.

Yep like everyone's been hinting at stock up on athletic wings preferably under 30. Must have young legs that can play grind it out defense 82 games long.

Hide Nash and Kobe's age with all the vet min players everyone has been mentioning. Dorrell Wright, Reggie Williams, Delfino, Will Bynum, Anthony Morrow, Xavier Henry, whoever we can get on the cheap. MMLE players should be Corey Brewer or Martel Webster. Draft a speedster pg or an athlete swingman. We're set with hustle big men in Earl Clark and Jordan Hill.

By getting a speedster pg like Bynum we'll atleast have a 6th man that will go at the opposing pg. No more free passes on defense for the opposing pg.

The lack of young athletic swingmen is what made us such an inconsistent team last year. We must infuse our bench and starting line-up with youth. Earl Clark is proof of that, he was actually one of our top defenders despite being undisciplined and inexperienced; through youth and athleticism alone he provided a much needed boost in the hustle department. I love Clark's versatility, but we need elite swingmen defenders that can shoot.

Simple roster tweaks should put us up into the elite stratosphere.

The way we're constructed now if we can snag 3 athletic wings we'd be golden. Assuming Dwight resigns; a very realistic and dream offseason would be Webster, Dorrell Wright, Morrow, Will Bynum, and a speedy pg in the draft. (I would love to see how Siva would develop under the guidance of Nash and Bryant)

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
