Except that Gay is not nearly a good enough player that a Melo would (or should) adjust his game to accommodate him.

I don't know why Gay wouldn't adjust his game. Has he ever played with a player like Melo before?

It's conjecture either way and I'm leaning towards a guy understanding that he's playing with one of the best players in the league.

The only adjustment Rudy could make is shoot less, and that renders him useless

So? They still go to the line and score you points. Are you even serious? Your perception is absurd, signature worthy post. Just plain stupid, I am sorry.

What other perimeter scoring has Gay ever played with?

Tony Allen?
Demar Derozan?
Kyle Lowry?

Great players play different with other great players. That theory is tried and true. It's been happening forever. From Pearl and Clyde to Shaq and Kobe, down through Wade and Lebron. Somebody has to alter their game and most of the time, somebody does and it forms a winning combination.

It'll never happen so there's no point in even discussing this.

I get your point, but that isn't why they shoot a lot.

They believe each shot is the best shot and its going in.

Neither rudy or melo will stand there and watch the other miss.

Clyde and pearl didn't change their games, they combined their skills and became interchangeable.

Shaq and Kobe didn't change anything which is why they couldn't coexist.

Melo needs a guy he can respect to make a basket.

Rudy is at best a sixth man.

Why hasn't he already adjusted his game regardless of who he is playing with? A guy with his physical capabilities continues to settle for outside jumpers he can't make consistently enough and doesn't get to the line nearly enough. He's been in the league for 7 years now and it's the same story.

Why hasn't Melo adjusted his game regardless of who HE'S playing with?

That point doesn't hold any water because it's exactly why they play the way they play. As Thugger said, Melo ain't gonna sit idle, while other dudes brick jumpers. Rudy Gay has been the best perimeter player on every NBA Team that he's played on going back to his rookie season in the league. He's not gonna sit back and watch guys like Tony Allen or Mike Conley brick jumper after jumper. It also didn't help that the team he was on in Memphis, wasn't necessarily conducive to his skill set.

I don't think there's any GM that would turn down a chance to replace non-factors with a scoring threat. Good thing they don't post here.

Rudy Gay sucks at everything outside of finishing at the rim and occasional defensive splash plays. He also doesn't attempt nearly as many shots at the rim as he should. Which is why he is the least efficient 20 point scorer this league has seen in a long time. Also why he never gets to the FT line. He takes a bunch of long 2s and 3 pointers that he sucks at.

His only positive is defense and dunking. We're already paying someone the max who is useless at everything besides defense and dunking. I'd rather not have 2.

Rudy Gay is basically the only player paid near the max that is worse than Amare. I'd rather have Amare for 30 games than Gay for 82.

And for Bargs the only deal I would do is built around Novak, Kidd, and White. Which only works if Earl Barron has the same contract type that Dan Gadz was signed to last season.

If you think JR Smith is a good player, then you have a right to want Gay here. It just means you're delusional. If you don't think JR Smith is a good player and you would take Gay here, you should re-evaluate things.

 Ok but they still count nutcase. You might not like it but if a player is the type who gets favored or who can proficiently flop to get to the line then that has a value that needs to be accounted for.

its a flawed measurement

is the #12 bench player going to get the same calls as a durant or lebron? the answer is no, so there we have just introduced bias into the measurement

also, TS does not take into account how the player is being guarded....ie, teams tripleteaming the #1 guy in the POs

its one of the most flawed stats out there

hows it stupid

how can a measurement be used objectively when we know that the parameters of the measurement are not applied equally across the league? (ie star players getting calls that others dont)

Rudy can't do neither.

Gordon averages 3 assists and 36% from 3 on his career.

Rudy Gay averages 2 assists and 34% from 3 on his career.

That's not an appreciable difference bro.

And your point about Rudy shooting less rendering him useless is wrong too. He wouldn't shoot less, he would shoot closer like he did in '11-12 when Zach was injured. Rudy got to the rim more than he ever has in his career when Zach was on the shelf. Why? Because instead of Zach posting up, Mareese Speights spaced the floor for Rudy and allowed him to drive.

If Mareese Speights could space the floor for Rudy, what could Melo do for his game? His game has always boiled down to reducing his mid-range jumpers and Melo being on the floor with a bevy of shooters surrounding would allow Rudy to be a slasher.

EDITED: Please don't twist this to mean that Melo is adjusting for Rudy. It's just them playing off of each other. Melo gets his same touches while other guys touches diminish so that Rudy can attack the rim instead of role players standing outside jacking up bricks. Get Melo his 20 shots and redistribute some of the rest for Rudy's 15-17, with more of his coming at the rim and Melo drawing attention away from him.

No one is claiming TS% is the be all end all. It's just a number

Your logic regarding free throws is mind boggling. Like out of this world bizarre. Even if guys getting ot the line more than others is a result of a bias, it still results in real points in a game. Any metric should reward them for that. You can't just pretend it didn't happen because you didn't like it. Do you not understand how utterly insane you sound?
