I just think he has had the 1st and best interview so far, but also of the names mentioned he's the only one I like.

Besides I am down with our GM sharing the same name as the Notorious BIG!

Wallace has proven he can pick roleplayers for an existing core, which I believe we have, so I wouldn't be against this hire.

He has an overall good reputation. I have no objections either.

Hopefully this Larry Bird news of us being interested in him doesn't fade.

The sale has officially closed so I'm guessing that we should be hearing about the new GM within a day or so.

Sounds good to me. He's done an excellent job in Memphis despite some criticism for stuff that was done early on. I think he could finish building around our guys.

Here is a twist in the GM search

Kings Gauging Interest Of Larry Bird In GM Position

May 31, 2013 9:34 PM EDT

The Sacramento Kings have sent out feelers to determine whether Larry Bird might be interested in their vacant general manager position.

Bird reportedly ranks near the top of Vivek Ranadive's candidate list.

Bird stepped down as president of the Indiana Pacers last summer, due in part to health issues with his back and shoulder.

Who knows ? I would love it if happened . Could not stand the Celtics but IMO a fantastic GM

Initially, I thought no way we should hire Chris Wallace. But after doing some digging, he did put together a very talented Grizzly playoff team.

I mean sure, you have to weigh the good against the bad and figure out whether he's the right person for the job. Yeah, this is the same guy that drafted Hasheem Thabeet, and trading Pau for unproven pieces.

But one of those pieces turned out to be DPOTY Marc Gasol. This is also the guy that traded away Darko for Q-Rich and then into Z-Bo, who is vital to this team despite his poor performance against the Spurs in the WCF. Also drafted and signed key free agents such as Shane Battier and Tony Allen.

I hope so.

I just read somewhere that Vivek had "opened" up the search and was considering Mullins? Blah!

Wallace also drafted Thabeet and Henry. Also traded Vasquez for Pondexter.

I much rather have Wallace over Mullins/Dunlevy anyway but hold off till Bird says no.

I'm worried about Chris Wallace. I feel like luck was on his side in Memphis. No one knew M. Gasol would turn out this good. MAYBE he did (I have no proof) but I highly doubt it.
He drafted Thabeet over Harden and Evans, which I've read wasn't his call. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, I haven't seen a source backing either one.
He traded Love for Mayo.
Conley is looking like a solid pick now.
He signed Iverson (the Arenas signing doesn't bother me as much).
I suspect Hollinger had a hand in the Gay trade (again, based on no actual evidence).

I hope I'm wrong, but I a lot of the time it seemed like he was shooting in the dark in Memphis and finally hit something. Maybe that's what we want?

If I remember correctly didn't the owner make the call on Thabeet ? i thought it was well publicized in that draft that the owner was gushing over Thabeet. I still don't know about him but I do remember that thing about Thabeet.

I have 2 issues with Wallace:
1) It's so hard to tell whether he got lucky in Memphis or he learned from his time in Boston. If he got lucky then that's REALLY bad, because we know what happens when he doesn't get lucky (see: the **** that was the Celtics during his tenure there).

On the other hand, from a luck perspective, is there really any successful GM that hasn't had an amazing amount of luck on their side?
If Presti doesn't luck into the 2nd pick (along with Portland taking Oden) then he's sitting on a team that's first or second round fodder every year
If Ainge hadn't played for the Celtics it's unlikely he would have been gifted KG. In fact, most people viewed Ainge as incompetent before he assembled the big 3.
Would Buford look so good if he didn't inherit a team with Duncan, Manu, & Parker? Would he looked as good if they hadn't all been mostly injury free for his tenure?

I mean, there's a ton of luck involved here and most of Wallace's moves don't seem of the uber-lucky variety (eg lucking into high draft picks, etc.)

2) He's not an advanced stat guy at all it seems. If he was, he wouldn't be getting pushed out from Memphis by 2 stats guys. This worries me on 2 levels:
a) Advanced stats are incredibly valuable. Now, I won't go so far as to say that they're the be all end all of scouting (because when they are you end up taking Tristan Thompson over a few more capable players)
b) Petrie is the exact same kind of guy and we've seen where that's got him over the past few years (though, to be fair, it's hard to tell how much of the bungling was Maloof related).

My personal belief is the best guy to hire is one who's been successful twice. Just like building a company, the first time can be luck, but the guys who show they can build a company a second time around know what they're doing.

We're meeting with Larry Bird.

That's huge news, cause it means he actually considers us and might accept.

God please make this happen.
