I love this guy.

Love that he actually thinks he can change and work with DeMarcus - it gives me alot of confidence cause I honestly believe this is the guy who could actually make it.

Set the standard from day one, no excuses.

I like how he's giving Cousins a clean slate. Whatever happened in the past is the past, what matters is how they move forward from now.

Count me in as excited as well. He's not really saying anything we haven't heard before, but somehow the vibe is different.

I can't wait until October!

What he has is something that literally every coach we've hired since Adelman doesn't have--evidence of recent NBA success. Others had been a part of successful staffs, but nobody has come in and clearly changed things in every location like Malone has.

And here's some other food for thought: Lebron's Cavs were perennially a top defensive team, and Mike Brown got pretty much all of the credit (including a COY) for that. Malone, it's been said in a recent article was essentially that team's defensive coordinator. Now normally we wouldn't be able to draw much from that, but we can with what's happened at their respective stops since then. Malone went to NO and GSW, and in both places, their defense shot up. It was a considerable improvement in several defensive categories despite few personnel changes in either situation. The Warriors are particularly startling. They had an above average defense this year, despite having a barely healthy Bogut, and basically nobody else that was really a good defender.

Meanwhile, Mike Brown went to the Lakers, where they were at about the same area defensively as the Warriors despite having Bynum, Gasol, MWP, and Kobe. A great defensive coach could absolutely make an elite defense out of that.

My thought is it wasn't Brown that coached Cleveland to an elite defense. It was Malone.

Now, I don't think we'll have an elite defense. Cleveland also had the advantage of Lebron becoming an all-world defender, and they were much more of a veteran team than our current group is. But I would be shocked to not see a clear, very big jump in defense this year--at least top 15-20. That alone should make a big difference for us in terms of wins.

Now offensively, I don't know how good of a coach Malone is, or if maybe he'll bring on a really strong offensive coordinator of sorts. But, frankly, there doesn't need to be much to improve the way our offense was run last year. Developing players in a way that makes them less impulsive and carefree offensively should do nothing but help our efficiency. Right now, we're a bunch of poorly put together parts playing hero ball. Adding discipline to talent should help, even if the strategy isn't great.

So suffice to say, even though Malone isn't talking much about wins and losses, I don't see how we don't improve those columns pretty drastically.

What happened to NO's defense ratings/rankings after he left to GSW? Anyone know?

New Orleans - Defensive Efficiency (Points allowed per 100 possessions)

2010-2011: 102.5 (15th)

(Mike Malone leaves, CP3 traded)

2011-2012: 102.3 (16th)

(Traded Okafor and Ariza, drafted Anthony Davis)

2012-2013: 107.6 (27th)

Exactly. The great thing about having multi-talented players who can create for themselves and others is if you put the ball in the right place you should be fine. Define roles and bring in role players to supplement them and this team will go straight up and possibly quickly.

Chris Jent is now officially the Lead Assistant for the Sacramento Kings. If anybody can recall Jent was an assistant coach for Orlando and even was the interim Head Coach for about 18 games iirc. I'm a bit meh on this one. Really think Malone should get some recognizable coach on his staff like a Paul Silas type guy. Even though he's bringing in Brendan Malone I think he should still bring in another veteran guy on the staff.

We need to get Jent and Tyreke in a room, lock the doors and windows, and not let either one leave until Jent fixed Tyreke's shot as he did to Lebron.

Unfortunately you cant teach an old dog new tricks. Even Alex English couldn't get Tyreke to shoot with sense.

Btw where is Fat Leaver??

I don't know a lot about Jent, but if Malone likes him, I do too. I'm sure Vivek told him to get whoever he wants.

There's a rumor flying around that Patrick Ewing is looking to coach. I don't know if he wants a head coaching job or otherwise, but it would be AWESOME if Malone and Vivek can convince him to come over here.

I'm also hoping to hear Webber's and/or Vlade's name come up, but nothing as far as I can tell.

Nice pick up.
Looks like you guy are getting Wallace from Memphis too.

Wallace is a really nice guy and was very fun to listen too on local sports stations here in mem.

I wouldnt be shocked if sac goes after tony Allen .

I guess sac will be one of my teams on league pass.

I want this to happen every year. Great passing big men to mentor Cousins.
