The odds of a full tank are slim to none, mark my words. We'll likely get an upgraded bench and a Bargs trade. Outside of that I'd be surprised if we even upgraded one starting position.

Like Dagger, you're always wrong.

Find me something I was wrong about and I'll give you a cookie. Like how I was right about BC sticking around.

But you've convinced yourself we'll be tanking for Wiggins and I get that, good for you. Just don't cry on here when it doesn't happen. Well, you can cry all you want, just don't be surprised if it doesn't happen.

Your opinion makes no sense when the facts involved clearly state that the total opposite is going to happen.

Do I think the team is going into a huge fire sale mode and trade everyone this off-season to be the crappiest team ever? No.

Do I think within the next year, the core is going to be turned-over (except Val)? Absolutely.

The team will be re-building so stop with your ego opinion and admit your wrong or stop posting. We are not just trading Bargs and adding to the bench and calling it a day. Listen or read for Fuc*s sake.

I'll bring a box of tissue on opening day, you're going to need it when the same starting lineup gets announced.

Dude...I'm going to be bummed if we trot out the same starting 5. It's solid and all, but it's just...meh.

From what I gathered from the press conference is that he doesn't know exactly what he's got here and what exactly is he going to do. He'll gather his workers and assistants and try and form an identity for this team. He'll talk to Casey and let him know his philosophy and go from there.

I heard nothing about taking a step back or tanking. So I'm happy.

Do people really expect us to blow up the roster to tank?? Sorry but it ain't happening anytime soon.
Masai will only blow it up if we start the season 4-19 again. Just my opinion .
I see us getting a starting pf, then move amir to the bench.

Also the only reason masai even mentioned about developing young Canadian players, because thats mlse's agenda, to get more Canadians interested in basketball Which will bring more money. Nothing to do with tanking for Wiggins.

i'm sure he already has a macro plan of what he wants to do. which style to go with , etc.

He just didn't want his first conference to be about the TANKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

He didn't say that at all and was basically asked if he would.

Very impressed in hearing this press conference. He gives me hope that this team will make insightful decisions. I'm hyped whether this team is rebuilding or reloading. Very happy with this signing, but the transactions are what speaks.

Very optimistic as usual :D

The only thing I got from this press conference was how to pronounce Masai Ujiri.

The only takeaway is that there are no takeaways. They're still building the FO and evaluating the talent.

I wish we could clearly say which direction we're headed in, but we won't know for sure until deals are made and the dominoes begin to fall.

I did like Masai's focus on separating himself from BC. I also like that TL and Masai are partners in team-building.

You really think the massive chage in direction these guys are foretelling involves just moving Amir to the bench? Hell naw. If MU is being pressured to do anything, it's to make a lot of changes, not slip into an 8th seed

I anticipate big changes from top to bottom. Maybe Casey stays on for the rest of his contract, but he is getting new assistants to start. They will probably revamp their scouting team, too. MU puts loads of value in the draft and in developing young players, so it makes sense why he fired Kelly and Co.

While he never tipped his hand, he did make a rough mention about building the value of players. I could see a guy like Derozan and Gay dumped early on next year after showing some better value. To me, I see that Ujiri came to Denver and the only player he retained prior to him being their was Ty Lawson. I see him as a forward thinker that will make the moves at the right time, but he and TL both know this roster is not a piece or two away. TL alluded to this previously, and you have to believe MU feels the same, but he doesn't want t open a firesale to kill his player value.

I finally feel like this team could actually be serious about building a contender the right way. Hopefully it doesn't take longer than two years.

That's what I got from that as well.

First thing I thought about was OKC with Perry Jones & Jeremy Lamb. Or SAS with Co-Jo.

Exactly and Masai did the same in Denver. I'm really excited about this teams future. MLSE looks to have gotten it right with competent sports management. Now we'll see in the next few weeks who Masai will bring and what direction he'll go with, with this roster.

Depends what your definition of blowing it up means. Most likely we're not going to see Ujiri just trade all of Lowry, Derozan, Gay and Amir to the highest bidder in hopes of being terrible. There's a fair chance to see something like Gay and Derozan moved and Lowry, Amir, Valanciunas, or Lowry and Derozan moved and Gay, Amir, Valanciunas staying.

What's really getting 'blown up' is BC's mentality and vision. BC's "plan" consisted of building towards a lower seed playoff team and cashing in cap and draft pick assets to get there. That's over. This is likely to be a team now that cares about assets like draft picks and capspace, while not treating making the playoffs as a must. TL and Ujiri are interested in building a championship team. Even if the roster stays relatively in tact next year, it's not because TL sees it as important that we make the 7th or 8th seed. Moves will be made in accordance to what gives us the best future and the ceiling of a championship team.

Masai Ujiri says he feels like he’s home.

The new Toronto Raptors general manager was introduced to the media on Tuesday at Air Canada Centre after being named to the post last week.

“I love this place,” said Ujiri, who was an assistant general manager with the Raptors for three seasons before leaving for the Denver Nuggets in 2010. “I’m pumped. I’m excited. This is a stage that I’ve always wanted in my life.”

The NBA executive of the year with the Nuggets replaces Bryan Colangelo, who remains the Raptors’ team president in a non-basketball role.

Ujiri thanked the Nuggets for letting him return to the team that gave him his start in the NBA.

“It was a tough decision to leave Denver. It was an easy decision for me to come here,” said the Nigerian-born Ujiri. “I’m really, really honoured and humbled that this organization would give me this chance.”

One of Ujiri’s first decisions concerns the fate of coach Dwane Casey, who has a year left on his contract.

“I’ve talked to Dwane Casey a couple times and we’re going to sit down and I want to understand what his philosophies are and I’ll tell him what my philosophies are or what I think needs to be changed,” said Ujiri, who added he didn’t see “any reason” why Casey wouldn’t coach the team next season.

The new GM also says he owes a lot to Colangelo, who gave him an opportunity to be an NBA executive. Ujiri shrugged off suggestions from reporters that the relationship between the current and former GMs could be awkward.

“There’s no issue with Bryan Colangelo,” he said. “None whatsoever.”

Ujiri will have some tough decisions to make right off the bat with a Toronto team that has missed the playoffs for five straight seasons. The team is currently over the league’s luxury tax threshold and he will have to decide which of the Raptors’ burdensome salaries to eliminate using the amnesty clause.

Ujiri says he will evaluate the talent at his disposal in the coming weeks before making a decision on what direction to take.

“There are good pieces on this roster,” he said. “There are phenomenal players on this roster (but) we have some things we need to correct.”

Another pressing concern is finding a willing trade partner for maligned Italian forward Andrea Bargnani, whose welcome in Toronto has long been worn out.

Ujiri has had success with tricky manoeuvring in the past. He earned respect for his deft handling of the Carmelo Anthony trade to New York and his ability to assemble a relatively starless roster that still managed to be a formidable contender in the Western Conference.

Nuggets team president Josh Kroenke told the Denver Post recently that he and Ujiri had agreed in principle to a contract extension, but once the Raptors came calling, he felt obliged to let Ujiri interview with his old team.

“Some way, somehow, this was meant to be and I’m here and I’m going to try to help to get this organization to where we (want to be),” said Ujiri, the first African-born GM in North America’s four major sports. “It’s going to take patience. It’s going to take will. We’re going to instill passion — a passion to win.”

Here's Steve Simmons' take, if you care for some reason:

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/06/04/ne ... lling-hope

And this much we know: If he had been this non-specific in his interview with CEO Tim Leiweke last week, there is zero chance the Raptors would have paid him six times his salary to leave Denver for Toronto.

When asked privately if Ujiri generalized this much in their day-long meeting, Leiweke was rather blunt.

“No, he didn’t,” said the CEO. “We had a frank conversation about the team and where it is and what we need to do, the changes that need to be made. He has a vision, he has some thoughts, and there were some specifics ... but I’ll leave that between him and I.”

This much we know about Leiweke. He clearly didn’t share Bryan Colangelo’s view that the Raptors were heading in the right direction. He didn’t share Colangelo’s vision that, with a tweak here, a tweak there, the Raptors were in flight. That’s why he pushed him aside and made him president in charge of the practice facility.
