Wasn't sure how badly they wanted to part with Humphries after the Humphries for Ben Gordon rumors. This deal would save roughly $10 million for the Nets.

Re: Pistons Trade Offer
We're actually looking for a pretty good player with that expiring. Like a Rudy Gay talent.

Re: Pistons Trade Offer
The team isn't interested in saving money. Humphries' expiring contract is probably the biggest trade asset we have left.

it doesnt save the nets any money. We would still be way over the cap and over the luxury tax for the next 3 seasons after making that trade. financially and cap wise it wouldnt change anything.
as odd as it may sound if you dont follow the team, we are looking to take on salary by trading hump, not shed it

It saves us money. Doesnt give us maneuverability is what you meant and we are glad that our ownership sounds more focused on winning than saving cash. If they were looking to trim the fat as many teams do...that trade would be hated by fans but exactly what ownership's of most team typically do.
No fan LIKES it when their team dumps salary. FANS always want to be buyers. We just happen to be fortunate in that we have an owner who still doesnt care about payroll. Sadly, Hump is the last truly big trade piece we can use to be buyers for the next couple of years.

You do realize that this team is owned by one of the richest men in the world?

Re: Pistons Trade Offer
Nets have no interest in saving money, because they have the richest owner in the league. They want to get better at all costs. I expect Humphries to be traded for a former all star type player on a bad contract (think Boozer). Humphries is the asset Nets plan to use on a name player who can make them better, while saving the other team money (since Humphries is a large expiring).BK09 wrote:Wasn't sure how badly they wanted to part with Humphries after the Humphries for Ben Gordon rumors. True, but as long as the Nets remain way over the luxury tax apron, they will never be able to receive a player in a S&T deal, let alone be able to squeeze a FA under the cap.
I am not advocating the trade being suggested, but there may be reasons for wanting to lower team salary.

We are definitely not going to be able to squeeze a player under the cap for years to come. So the question is...if we traded Hump away for nothing and made other moves to get under the Apron...who would we have to trade to be able to do an S&T?
No one is taking JJ or Crash. So we would have to give hump away for the right to be able to do an S&T for some other big contract player. That meas we have to deal Deron or Lopez. Do you have a free agent in mind we can get for an S&T worth making that move?
Are we back to De-wight?
So in the end...what does dumping Hump really do for us? Are we better off trading him for the next Rudy Gay type of contract dump instead?
