Has Sarver Learned His Lesson?

This article is a pretty good read on Sarver's thinking. He is a little late as most fans were ready to start this rebuilding trip when Stat was let go; but the past is the past. He wasn't totally honest with his words (acting as if he was preparing to rebuild as opposed to being forced), but he appears to be learning from his mistakes, and that is a good.

Robert Sarver is not cheap, which is good for us Suns' fans and he is not a whimp.......a little stubborn, but definitely not a whimp. I am calling for support of him with the new hires and keep a positive outlook on this organization.....We are in a decent position for a 2-3 yr rebuild at max....Not like the Bulls (post Jordan), Celtics (post Bird), or NYK's (since 1999) after their deep playoff runs back in the day.

I love how he took a shot at that Suns' hating Charles Barkley.... I am really starting to grow tired of his hate. He cost us the 1995 playoffs because he choked that the freethrow line TWICE!!

He didn't learn it after the summer of 2006 which lead to having to dump Kurt Thomas; so hopefully he learned it after the screw up of the summer of 2010.

I have never thought Sarver was cheap. Well, maybe he is cheap in the building - meaning with admin staff, heard that assistants didn't have offices . But he was never cheap with the payroll. He was worth then cheap - he was just plain wishy washy. One day, I will sell two draft picks for $6m but the next day, I am going to sign Marcus Banks for 5 years 21m when nobody was giving that guy more then a one year deal.

But, i hope he has learned his lesson and lets McDonough and Babby and Hornacek do their thing. Just give them the budget - thats fine - and they can work in and around it.

He's not cheap; he's one of the few owners who have been willing to pay the lux tax multiple times over the past decade.

He's just...not basketball-smart. At all. Although he was the engine behind acquiring the two best players on the roster last season(Dragic and Scola), so props to him there, I guess.

He's saying the right things now. Now it's all up to McDonut

i genuinely think sarver has grown as an owner and has seen the errors of his way. he's ready to sit back and let the FO do what they do.

Sarver also does some things that other owners just don't do. He spends a lot of money on the medical staff. What other team has a cryochamber? I remember during a summer league game last year he was talking to one of the broadcasters and he seemed confused that other owners would spend all kinds of money on these players and then not spend any money on their upkeep (medical staff).

Sarver's problem has never been that he's cheap. He makes poor decisions. Take the decisions out of his hands and he is honestly not that bad of an owner. He has proven he's willing to make big trades (Shaq), whether they were the correct moves or not. He has gone over the luxury tax line numerous times and has shown loyalty and understanding to our players (Nash).

The fact that he hired McDonough and told Babby to let McDonough run the team from now on speaks volumes on how much Sarver has grown.

The Suns future is as bright as it has ever been in the past 5 years.

I really like the read, and plus we have no choice in the matter....He won't sell and he appears to be making a change so we might as well support him....for now
