Rodney Stuckey - Piston Starting PG?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Tue Jun 4, 2013 11:14 pm

Ok, whenever I try to figure out who we should draft, and what free agents we should get, I always have the problem of wtf position is Knight, and who is our PG. So since everything else is a dream, I'll take a flyer on a new one...

Starting Piston PG for 2013-14 - Rodney Stuckey!

I know I've hated his attitude, think we should trade him or buy him out, but it is really in his best interests and ours to make it work. He is going to be a free agent next year. Period. He knows (or at least his agent does) that this year's performance will make the difference of MILLIONS of dollars for him. There is no way he comes into this season with a bad attitude.

Pistons need a PG. If we have decided that Knight is a great 3rd guard, then let's just make him our third guard. I don't think anyone disagrees that being a 3rd guard on an elite team is probably the ceiling for Knight.

So we talk with Stuckey before the season and let him know the position is his for the taking, and he'd be smart to do it.

We can then draft a SG with #8 (probably KCP) and Saric(?) at SF with #13 from Dallas as long as we take Vince. So before we blow any of our FA $$$ (except for absorbing Carter's salary), we have:

PG: Stuckey/Knight
SG: KCP/Knight
SF: Saric/Carter
PF: Monroe
C: Drummond

Then we can decide what to do with the rest of our roster and how much we want to spend in free agency, or save our cash for next year.

If Stuckey is still on the team in November, I swear I will lose it.

A much better option is MCW at 8 and Sergey Karasev at 13 (although I doubt we acquire this pick)

Carter-Williams/Knight/Karasev/Monroe/Drummond is very well rounded- shooters in Knight/Karasev, pass-first PG in MCW, post scorer in Greg and an anchor in Drummond.

If you believe "Vinny x2" they both think Stuckey is not going to be on the team next year

I think Stuckey was finally able to slow it down some and play with an acceptable pace last season. I thought the limited minutes he did play some PG, he was good last year.

However, with that said, I don't want him back.

He half-@ssed it last season, does not have a good attitude, and basically comes off like he doesn't want to be here. Hopefully Dumars can trade him and his expiring, non-guaranteed deal somewhere else. Preferably to a team looking to cut cap.

No, Stuckey needs to go but if he stays i would like to see him and knight continue sharing pg duties. Stuckey is a good pg, but only for limited minutes, like Will, he gets a little possession crazy at times.

How can you be mad at Stuckey for playing how his coaches want him to play. He told them he wasn't a jump shooter, but his coaches try to make him one any way, so if he does what his coaches ask of him and suck, that's not Stuckey fault. As far as i'm concern, I see no difference between Knight & Stuckey game from Hill & Stevenson game, the only difference is better coaching and Paul George. My point is, if Hill & Stevenson can make it work I don't see how Knight and Stuckey can't make it work with some better coaching.

Eh, this makes sense. Stuckey will stick around our starting line up just like how the last few games of this season ended. It worked to an extent, and you saw both players initiating an offense and did a decent job at that. I actually saw Knight getting a few more assists since the Calderon trade. A small sample size, sure, but I think it has some potential to work since Stuckey does not turnover the ball.

In this league, with an effective backcourt like Lin/Harden, Curry/Thompson both sharing the ball to an extent to initiate an offense, I really think this can be us down the line with Knight + some new blood. Sure, these guys are near all-stars to super stars, but the league is moving towards that trend anyways. Hopefully we'll be able to find someone to pair up with Knight to run the offense for the future.

JD, Combo, glad you guys have a sense of humor :-)

I still want a SG out of this draft, and our PG situation is f--king this up. If Burke or MCW are available, they very well could be taken before KCP. Can't think of anything crazier that Stuckey as starting PG, but maybe I will :-)

Stuckey-Knight would have been a verg intriguing combo. However, it's time to move on from Stuckey. He has become a toxic presence.

Dear Lord please no. The Stuckey experiment is long overdue. He gives us flashes but that's all they are.

I thought someone bumped a thread from 2009. Haven't we been through enough?
